This was his goodbye to us. He passed about 6 months after this vudei. I think it was back in early 2000s

"Aww he's gonna make me fucking cry" is pretty much my reaction every time I hear this song.

trent reznor of nine inch nails wrote this he wsas ment to write this but Johnny was ment to sing this. the picture on the wall is Johnny's mom the woman standing in the background was June carter cash who died several months after johnny released this song and video and he followed her soon after. trent didnt like the cover at first but he soon fell in love with it and said that johnny now OWNS this song. one of the few examples of a covewr being better than the original.

His wife June was a part of the Carter family who were like country music royalty and she died just 3 months after this video was made.

I heard that somebody's grandfather played this at their mom's funeral at first I was upset with the grandfather until I actually sat back and listen to the music and it's not him hating his daughter it's him loving his daughter so much that in his own way he is saying I am sorry I failed you I'm sorry I'm a failure Which I really hope that that person proves their grandfather wrong

The other thing with Johnny Cash, if you like a type or genera of music from the 50's until the early 00's either he was at the front of it, or used his power to push it through the media.

Just came across this, and I thought some info may help. First off, this was written by Trent Rezner. You may know hime from Nine Inch Nails.
If not, I strongly suggest you look both up.
A line between techno, punk, metal, and others, but by all means, not country.
Anyway, this (original) was released way back in the early 90's. And not a comercial hit by any stretch.
And I don't think Trent intended it to be as such.
More of a thinking out loud thought on the dangers of drug addiction.
Quite some time later, somehow Johnny got wind of it, and something spoke to him.
This song seemed to be the life of Johnny in lyric and song.
He got with Rick Ruben. The famous producer of the likes of Beastie Boys, Geto Boys, Run-DMC, Public Enemy, and LL Cool J, and many many more.
    Again, look him up too.
And not some one that you would ever think of dealing with Johnny for sure, and again by no means country.
So in all, it was the perfect storm of unlikely people from hand to hand that made one of the mose heart felt pieces ever.
Johnny died not too long after doing this, and this did seem to put a cap on his reflection of his life.
Some joy in the middle of a world of shit that mostly he created himself.
Johnny was the first to tell you he made just about every mistake one can make. And I think this was a great example of what he had to feel like in his shoes.
Regardless of any of this I mentioned.
One, (of the many) really cool things from this recording. Is that it seems to have brought every one to the table.
People from all walks of life, no matter where from, or anything, can identify with reflecting back, and realizing that so much that seemed important at the time then, really didn't mean any where near what we thought of back then. As well as reflecting on the times you did whatever that ended up hurting another. And how any one would wish a do over.
    Just my 2 cents.

I think it's a song about regret I mean you don't have to be a drug addict you listen to the song and reflect that it's actually pretty deeply depressing the song

    Great song! Great video!
Other songs by Johnny Cash that are good are "Folsom Prison Blues" "Man in Black" "Cocaine Blues" "A Boy Named Sue". He has made so much music its insane. But this is one of the best ones he's done. He made it his own. It brings tears to my eyes everytime.
