Homeschooling your middle schoolers is the best move you could have made to guide them throughout adulthood. As a mom of 2 grown sons, I can say that, challenges and difficulties usually start in middle school.
Thanks for sharing!! I struggled in the beginning if I was taking on too much and if it was the right decision, but I feel very validated from the comments I’ve read. Thank you so so much.
As a new homeschooling parent since October 2023- one thing I want to impress on- this is not like public school. Homeschooling is so much different. Rigid schedules will typically burn all of you out. I used to do this and it did not work out at all. Just make sure you don’t merge homeschool and public school. Check out classes like OutSchool for interests. And also even tho your kids are in seventh grade- they can take any classes of any grade if they wanted including MiaPrep. My oldest (10yo) is taking some 9th grade courses on MiaPrep. You’ll have fun!
Yes I agree, they’ve been on it for a couple days and I’ve already learned so much. I learned Ace needs more excelled classes so he’s taking some eighth grade language and math in addition to his seventh grade classes. I really want my kids to be responsible so loosening up on their schedule and giving them the choice to prioritize is really good for them.
@@ChristyGior8 yes letting them prioritize what they want to do is important! My 10yo (5th grader) is fully independent and I just give her what she needs to get completed for the day and I don’t care what she does as long as it gets done that day and she knows what out of home activities/Outschool activities she has that specific day (music class, drawing class, Japanese, Spanish, photography, hip hop) and she has to get it done. It usually takes her 2-3 hours to get everything done outside of activities. My 3 littlest (2- 2nd grade and 1- 1st grade (Kindergarten age)) have core subjects- math, and language arts daily and history/science 1-2 times a week. They get to pick what they want to do. Most of the time we are outdoors. Speaking of outdoors- go to the playground with your toddler and they can connect to phone hotspot and do their work. Win win. And find middle school homeschool groups near you!! Have them meet other kids.
Girl. I've said this before. You are awesome. You have been such a Godsend for ALL of your children. I admire how much you prioritize them. Your openness to try new things and adjust if ever something doesn't quite work as well. They will become such well-rounded adults. I pray you see the fruitful results of your labor.
Suggestion from an educator: Homeschooling is quite a transition, as independent, self-paced learning is not, let's say, well received by every middle schooler, especially not for every subject. Perhaps it would be best (for their learning & retention) to give the kids their entire school day to focus on their studies, and move chores & Tazeo babysitting until after school hours?
Thank you for your suggestions, my kids do well with breaks in between and for our lifestyle we would prefer to get everything done before 1 PM if possible. They’re very active with extra curricular activities so we would need to get it done first thing in the day.
@@ChristyGior8I've tutored (active & formerly) homeschooled kids/teens. If comprehension & long term scholastic achievement are valued and prioritized, then you may want to consider that independent learning in some subjects (even with online curricula) could require more time (than in traditional school). A toddler (or chores) could be equally or more disruptive to your kids' concentration in their coursework as to you in your work/obligations.
Amazing plan mom! I love this. You definitely have the most important priorities it seems covered quite well. My daughteris an adult but she did a faith based home school program that she thoroughly enjoyed and thrived at. She was so motivated and even graduated a year early. You are such an amazing mom and should be very proud of the wonderful job you are doing and your home school plan is on point. 👏👏👏❤❤❤
You made a great decision to homeschool your kids in middle school, Christy! It's a critical stage so it is nicer to have them around you! Also, kuddos on the bible classes!😊I loved them during my time. Wish you all the best!❤
I appluade you in home schooling your middle school children. This is a difficult age for children and, an age where they could be easily influenced. My prayer will be with you.
I checked out this curriculum too! If my kiddos were older it would be a top choice for us! But I’m using oak meadows this year. I’m teaching my 2nd and 3rd grader! I’ve been lesson planning and I’m so excited! I taught kinder before I became a sahm mom so I’m totally ready! Happy 1st year to you guys too! It will be awesome!!❤️
I love that you're making your faith a priority and encouraging them to know the bible from such a young age "Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it." Prov 22:6
I'm super excited about their Homeschool journey and that they are taking a Bible course! I love how organized you have everything already. I pray that this year is great and they enjoy this experience. All the children in my home are homeschooled. Two are in high school, two are in elementary, and two are still preschool-aged (3 and 4) but as I (their aunt) worked with teaching little ones before the pandemic so I also do learning with them. The older ones all do a cyber charter school available to those in our state that provides everything they need for free. They can choose to do live classes or work at their own pace. We mostly started doing homeschool as the teenagers got older because the community we are in is not very safe. It has been a blessing to our home/family. We save so much money not having to buy supplies and school clothing etc. and we use our break times to do other things like outdoor time as a family, visiting the library between classes, field trips, and/or additional lessons like Bible, life skills or whatever they are interested in. I'm so glad God led us to this journey.
Wow, you have a great set up and a great schedule!! I’m homeschooling my youngest daughter who has ADHD and high functioning autism. She is starting 9th grade and really struggles with attention and staying focused for more than a few minutes. I’m always trying to get new ideas. Love your videos!! I pray that you will have a wonderful and blessed school year!!
@Christy Gior wonderful for you kiddos to have a biblical course. I do think that the note books you bought them would be great as praying and scripture writing so in anything situation they can go back and re-read the prayers and scriptures.
I’m older and don’t have any kids at home, however my close neighbor switched to this last year. She learned to get involved in a little community of homeschool and they go on field trips and have socializing on a weekly basis. Just something to think about. I wish you well.
I love this schedule! We homeschooled for 10 years. We started when my oldest was 3 going on 4 with Pre-K and finished up last year with the youngest doing 2nd. My older 2 went to a private school in middle school and the youngest is going to one this year for 3rd grade 😢. We too followed a fairly strict schedule to make sure we could fit in our extracurriculars. One thing I found helpful was doing lunch and breakfast meal prep on the weekend and freezing food. It allowed us to get in those life lessons without destroying the kitchen during the school day with cooking.
@@ChristyGior8we’ve done muffins, waffle sticks, pepperoni bites, corn dog muffins and so much more. My girls loved helping. You’re going to enjoy homeschooling so much.
Same here. I am so grateful and lucky to have gone to Catholic school. The local public school in my area was atrocious. My dad worked his butt off to send all of us 4 kids to Catholic school. I am so thankful for it.
Great video! You have an awesome setup and the fact that the kids are already involved in extracurricular activities will keep engaged socially. I love the fact you incorporated Bible study right in the school day. I’m sure they will thrive. You and Ed are such wonderful, thoughtful parents with beautiful, happy children. By the way, you are as gorgeous as ever. Many blessings ❤.

I’m so excited you decided to homeschool! I’m super excited that you’re using my favorite online school! Miacademy has been a lifesaver for my daughter. We’ve used it about 2 years now. They have come a long way and always making improvements. My homeschool advice would be to do what works for what season you are in. In the beginning I wanted everything to flow a certain way and it didn’t always work out that way. I always involve my child in decision making. Also, be ok to change something if it’s not working out no matter how much you paid for it🫤 Stay away from negative people. Love your decision, thank you for sharing, gave me peace of my decision as well.. that’s what I want to do as well, let my girls finish elementary school but in middle school do homeschooling- a lot of thing happens during those years and school is just not the same as before and I want for my girls to succeed and grow emotionally healthy!! And love the part that you add the Bible study as well.. Have a great year of homeschool ☺️
So smart of you ! My middle school years I started hanging with the bad guys lol & it took mom getting me to a private HS & tough love to straighten up..
I just remember all the bullying and things I was exposed to in middle school in high school makes me think I could’ve been different person if I wasn’t exposed to it :/
Love all your vids but this was excellent, love that you are prioritising Bible study 🥰 I’m sure your children will continue to excel. As a former high school teacher the program you chose looks great
Oh I thought Ace was going in person for sports? :) Anyway, making sure they stay on schedule is really the best tip. My rule was always no more than 3 days behind and only if something really took more time. This is more important in high school than middle school but I think developing that discipline early was key.
Wow what a blessing to be able to home school your children. I am sure they will do better being home schooled. I don’t think schools provide children the learning and the safe environment they need. I love how each one of them will have Tazeo for 30 minutes to help you out. That is awesome.
how do the kids feel about being homeschooled? when i was a kid, i begged to be homeschooled, especially in middle school. but i also wasnt very social. i would imagine that social kids might miss their friends and prefer public school, but i could be wrong. either way, i think homeschooling in middle school is such a great idea.
I was home schooled up to the age of 14 then went to public school, positives and negatives to both however i dont regret being home schooled. Good luck.
So is this course the actual teacher? It was a lot for me to digest. If the student does not pass the quiz 80% or higher they have to turn around and retest? Or just the course reteach the material ? Is there an actual interactive teacher involved at some point?
