As a teacher in LV, I believe you are making the best decision. Not every teacher is terrible. I am a teacher who cares, and I know many teachers who care about their students, but it's a tough job. We can't control what kids are exposed to at home and how they influence their peers. I have seen and heard of some crazy things happening in our district, and no one person is to blame. If I were a parent and had the means to homeschool my children, I would do it without hesitation. Do what you have to do to protect and prepare your kids.

@@AnimalLover2400True. But nowadays, the teachers can not separate their own personal views or biases in school. In my day, I never heard about my teachers' private lives or personal views. I completely understand your decision. I used to be against homeshooling, but my middle school boys have been experiencing a lot of bullying, being called racial slurs by the other kids, and the teachers and administrative staff don't seem to be doing enough to address these issues, so their dad and I have chosen to homeschool them so they can focus on their Education rather than all those other distractions and influences. The quality of public school education is just not what it used to be, so I feel better knowing my partner and I will have more of an active role in their education.

I’ve been homeschooling my boys 6 years now (13 & 17) and it’s the best decision I’ve ever made. I think it’s funny how ppl are always so worried about “homeschooled” children and their social skills. My kids actually talk to adults and carry on conversations which is something I noticed most teens don’t do. I’ve also homeschooled through breast cancer…then the pandemic happened…and my 17 year old is excelling in math and has also earned his 2nd degree black belt during this time…and works at the dojo teaching. I’m saying this to say their social life does not suffer…they take fun classes through the parks and rec center, etc etc. One thing we do is a 4 day school week and that has helped my sanity as well. Also want to note my nieces were also homeschooled and just went to private school this year and acclimated right in and are excelling in all subjects. No need for anyone to worry about homeschool kids…lol. You’re gonna do awesome.

No, you’re doing the right thing. Kids at your girls age are so easily influenced and they don’t know the ramifications or consequences of their actions! Being exposed to something over and over again desensitizes them to it and they can begin doing it themselves!
Schools are out of control and parents are not disciplining their kids anymore! They are running rampant and causing chaos.

My kids are younger but I agree that middle school age is even more an important age to keep our kids close and having parental attachment as opposed to peer attachment. I remember the hormonal shift and what it did to me as a preteen and teen and I can not imagine what it would be like to be a teen in this day and age in the public school system, and all the influence it has on our kids. Also, your “I don’t want my kids in public school” will grow into “I see the beauty of homeschooling my kids and having them under one roof and for them to learn and grow with their siblings.” You just earned yourself a follower! 😊

My daughter is home schooled, she doesn’t have the stress of worrying about school drama. It’s more relaxing for her, no worries or anxiety. We use CAVA, she has a set schedule when she has to attend live sessions on line. I’ve taught her to respect herself/her body. How she needs to dress respectfully, she doesn’t need to show her body or be a people pleasure. She can have her own opinion and speak her mind. I educate her financially and educate her on laws, common sense things., etc.

I have been homeschooling for years. Everything has its up and downs. So many people have misconceptions that homeschooling is for lazy people, and that is easier. That couldn't be more far from the truth! It adds one more hat to the many hats us moms already wear. Structure is the key to homeschooling for me being a mom of a large family like yourself. I have 7 kids, 2 which are now young adults, 18 & 23. What I love about homeschooling is that we can choose our approach to learning so we can teach our children in the way in which they learn best. We can plan field trips that coinside with our current learning topics. I like to print out worksheets to bring along to field trips, so they have a fun and educational experience. Because I have kiddos in different grade levels, I like to plan some online classes for my kids as well. While the younger ones are in online class, I can take that time to take advantage of making that time to teach the harder topics to my upper grader in History, social studies, or Science, or to focus on time to work with him on things he may be having a harder time in like a new area math we may be getting into. I have tried different programs and some I didn't like, others were okay. But it's really important to research each homeschool charter to see what they offer, how they operate, and see who you feel will be your greatest fit. We are currently with Mission Vista Academy. WE LOVE THEM!!! I highly advise you look into them. I think you will love this new journey, the flexibility, and the time you get with your kiddos. I wish you all the best in your new homeschool journey!!!

Middle school years are the most impressionable and influential. Most ppl think if a child/young adult is going to go down the wrong path in life it happens in high school. In reality (multiple studies on the topic) middle school is the deciding factor. It is one of the last times to intervene with life changing results. It started with covid at the end of 5th grade for my daughter and I ended up keeping her home for 6th and most of 7th. It was extremely beneficial for her, she has amazing self confidence, she's liked by everyone, and is now finishing freshman year with a 4.0gpa.
If someone does say something shady she literally doesn't care. If that happened in 6th-7th grade it would have caused all sorts of issues. Skipping the B.S made her stronger n more resilient. Those are the same reasons ppl are drawn to her now.
Good call and it's the best time to pull your kiddos out. Let them go back for high school without all the stress, nonsense,n anxiety. Wishing you the best and enjoy these pivotal years. ❤

Our school district is number 5 on the list of 250 "most envied schools" in America and ranked one of the top schools in the state. It has 11 schools and almost 10,000 kids in the district. Same exact thing here with the kids and a lot of the teachers aren't it. Our oldest graduated last year and we have a 14 year old and 3 in elementary. No matter how good of a school district there are still wacky teachers and kids doing bad things and not being the best influences. I wish I could homeschool, but it's just not an option for our family.. so if you can, I definitely say go for it, you are the best influence for your children!

Solo parent to 4 under 10 (3 are 9-18 months apart) working full time and in school, started homeschooling in October. Enjoying it throughly.
A few things to consider.. and I had to learn this as a public school kid and with my kids going to public school for some years.
Homeschool is NOT public school. Don’t set routines similar to it otherwise you will just set yourself up for failure. I was so frustrated with myself and the kids were too. Have the kids learn while self learning. Interesting concept right? But it will motivate them so much.
Reading and math are the only core subjects I hands on get involved but otherwise I just take them out for science, history and other fun activities. Field trips are big here and they learn quickly. My 7yo barely can read (neurodiverse) but he can measure bunch of things and calculate in his head quickly. His favorite store is Home Depot and he can just about tell you quite a few things about woodworking, measurements, and etc. all that with hands on learning.
My oldest hates to read but audio books are a favorite and she’s pretty fluent in Japanese after learning it I’m 6 months.
Each kiddo is different. My just turned 5yo is supposed to be in kindergarten this fall… is “GRADUATING” kindergarten this summer! He’s a bright 5yo that can read chapter books, multiply and do fractions and mostly did that by self learning. He hasn’t been in school.
Check out Math U See. But also check out Oak Meadow. It would check a lot of your boxes!

I agree with you; there is so much drama in middle school; my granddaughter lives in FL and we FaceTime every Sunday evening and she tells me there are fights every week at her school. I live in PA and only pray that she doesn't get influenced by the "drama" that happens every day at her school; she will be going to 7th grade next year and is a A-B student and likes school so I hope that continues. Honestly, it's so sad that she and other likeminded students have to be exposed to that type of behavior from some classmates.

That is awesome if you are abled to home school your children. As much money as people pay in taxes you would think the educational system would be better.
Teachers are over worked and under paid.
It is a lot for everyone.
The best of luck to you. I am certain you will be very successful.

We are homeschooling middle school as well. I made that decision when my oldest was graduating elementary. We are 2 years into homeschooling him, and it is great. I think I will homeschool my daughters during middle school as well - for a lot of the same reasons as you have for homeschooling your girls.

Henderson high school and 5th grade mom here. Middle school was shocking and high school was worse! It’s really disheartening what is going on in our schools. There is not only many homeschool programs available like Khan Academy but there is also NVLA which is a distance education program with the state. We need to do the best we can to protect our children from the chaos that CCSD middle schools and high schools have become. I’ve lived here for 14 years and have never seen things this horrific.

I’ve home educated for years, we don’t school at home either. 17,13 & 12 children love to learn & can do so much themselves if you teach them how. I love having them home with me but you are spot on about bonding with them at that crucial age. Xx

I live in Vegas also. We tried CCSD when we first moved here 3 years ago. 6th grade….we lasted 2 weeks before we pulled her out. She’s in a private Christian school now.
What are your thoughts on where you’ll send them for high school?

As of now, I'd like for them to attend High school with CCSD. I know know school or student is erfect. I have found a lot less happens at our local high school vs the middle school.

I’m sorry but middle school sucks, that was my wildest experience growing up and I even transferred to a “better” milddle school, still wild. My BFF is in a top school district and she still has problems in middle schools. Another friends son is in a private Christian milddle school and still has issues w kids and teachers there.

Here in Switzerland that wouldn't be an option. You must be a teacher when you want to homeschool your kids. Also the schools are very good and safe here. Aren't you afraid that they can't keep up when they are going back to a public school? I would be worried about that but I also know nothing about the tough every day school life you have. Wishing you and your beautiful kids all the best! ❤

I get it Christy. I taught in the district you are referring to for 15 years. My daughter will be transitioning to middle school soon, like you, I am very nervous about it. Elementary is going great, but middle school as you stated is loaded with its own dynamics. I wish I had the opportunity to homeschool my child. Instead I will be opting either for magnet, charter, or private school. We live in Mountain's Edge and although it's a well to do area, our zoned middle school has quite a few issues. Once you start homeschooling, please let us know what program you choose and provide us with updates on the success and challenges you face. Wishing you and the kids the best.

I grew up with racially oriented teachers and they were really discouraging for my self esteem for my subsequent academic studies. I'm glad you are protecting them and taking them out of that environment.
I'm sure you'll do a great job teaching them. You are such an inspiration as a mom. I can't imagine dealing with classmates already vaping, fighting, and sexually active. (you didn't mention that, but I'm sure that is occurring since it happened when I attended.)

Love your channel and how you love and protect your family. I pulled my daughter and started homeschooling this year as well. Also, a Vegas resident from the Bay so I understand this system is not great. I wasn't fully prepared to homeschool but did it anyway! Teachers Pay Teachers has great resources, Outschool has some pretty affordable classes, and because I wasn't confident yet in my homeschooling I also signed my daughter up for Tutoring a couple times a week to make sure her reading and math were up to par. Best of luck and enjoy this time with your kids, it's precious.

I love this! ❤️ I have a toddler and have been looking at some preschools but I'm very cautious on where to go and what their requirments are, who their teachers are , etc. It is crazy what some teachers get into and I've personally gone through stuff from teachers in HS so idk if I'm extra cautious but I'd love to homeschool co-op one day with a local church or something.

Hi Christy, homeschool mom here. I’ve been homeschooling for several years K through high school if you can find a homeschool charter in your area that will help you out a lot as far as curriculum goes. Also, there are co-op programs with other parents and don’t be afraid to use tutors. I wish you all the best in your homeschooling endeavors and trust me you will not regret it. I’m always available if you have any questions.
