Watch as John builds a Yamaha Raptor 700 engine from the bottom up. We’ll start with the bottom end, where we’ll get everything cleaned up and then press bearings into our crankcase halves. Then, we’ll install the crankshaft. Next, we’ll move up the engine and get the oil pump and shift assembly installed.
With that finished, we’ll build the clutch and install the water pump. Once that’s done, we’ll work on getting the cylinder built, which includes a Wiseco piston installation.
Then it’s on to the top end, where we’ll show you how to lap the valves and get the camshaft installed. Finally, we’ll get the head attached to the engine.

Thank you to everyone who made this video possible. Very informative and good camera work.
I Hawe SUZUKI TSX 125 and IS good on My Mind!
After finishing the video I noticed at 1:36 you said the reed valve let’s pressure out . It actually lets fresh air into the exhaust side to burn off unburnt fuel , most likely to meet emission standards , however if the reed valve sticks or if the solenoid fails fresh air can be easily introduced to the combustion chamber causing a severe lean condition , raptor owners give yourself a price of mind and block it off ! Mr Cuervo racing makes a nice plate to block it off.
Great job Partzilla. Your videos are very, very helpful. You are one of my go to’s for parts.
I've no plans on rebuilding anything, anytime soon but I'm enjoying these videos!
This is one of the most comprehensive atv videos i have seen on youtube. Better than some instructional DVDs i have seen. Great job partzilla team.

It's always my pleasure to learn from the best at what they do..I have Ben watching your program for a wile now..thanks a lot for your step by step in putting the engine tougher ..I respect you accept you put the boltes the wrong place..great it happens at times to the best..but we look over our work and correct it..thanks again and keep doing your great works and may God keep blessing you with ur talent ..You a great day and your family..be safe and take care❤👌👍
Hello Sir! It is always a pleasure watching your videos. I have been learning a lot from you, so thank you very much. Cheers from Brazil
Is that all John??? Just a little over 500 parts...childs play for you...holy cow...yeah I'll stick with my tractors and trimmers. I was hoping to get my timing chain out of my 350 without removing any of the gears toward the back...
What a true professional! ! God bless you and your family
Awesome vid thank you so much very well done ordering parts now 👍🏼👍🏼
How could you dislike this? Seriously? This was a great video. You did great work. Thanks for the video.
This is the best of the best step by step engine building tutorial i had ever watched.
I have been building engines for quite awhile and I always learn a few tips and tricks that end up using in my engine rebuilds.
Good job. I would recommend you use a small silicone brush to brush the oil onto those shafts. Keep the oil in a small container you can dip the brush in. Wear gloves too and use billet gears. Don't drop gears in, carefully place them evenly into the case. That is probably why that first one got stuck and went in crooked which, when pressed can damage the casing. Good tip on the feeler gauge and Loctite. One the head bolts, probably better to freeze them vs. adding oil to them. After all that work, would have like to seen the start up.
Thank you for your great instruction - easy to understand and follow.
Great build , I am also a fan of freezing bearings and cranks , when there are existing bearings in the case I use a heat gun , aluminum is so conducive , I once put a crank in with a tap of a 1lb rubber mallet .
You remind me of a strict teacher or a doctor with your demeanor. Very good video and I appreciate your knowledge and wisdom about your profession. An apprentice could learn a lot from you.
Cool shit! Wish I had these vids 30 years ago!!! All those trips back and forth to the parts shop, from f**king something up! This generation doesn't know how good they got it!! Top notch!
This is one of the best engine assembly videos I've ever seen! You literally skipped nothing! Now if you would just make one for the other engines that I want to tinker with! Thank You!
YEAH SURE, FIRST FIVE MINS ALMOST BROKE THE CASES IN HALF! LOL
That’s not your first day at the rodeo is it. We couldn’t ask for a more detailed or professional tutorial on the assembly. Well done and thankyou for your time in sharing.
Awesome videao and onggoing reference for my stroker crank and bb kit install
I can't express how great and amazing this build video is. I would love to see a VTX 1300 engine build . . Do you have more videos just like this , and with this much detail ?

Same feeling here. Such a great guy, I can already say. Want to hangout with him in the weekend helping him out doing some engine rebuilds.

I always set my valve lash to the smallest number because they alway increase from wear never decrease. Good video, I didn’t see the camshaft sprocket torqued however.
Love my Rapter 700R-SE! Get one before they don't make them anymore! Best big bore sport quad ever made!
Awesome Job dude. This video is great because its a professional.
I just subscribed that was an awesome video I learned a lot of cool pointers well done looking forwards to more videos
1h40 of pure pleasure !!!
Can you please make some videos on electric problems just a little more "harder" than a battery problems
Thx a lot
i like how you operate nice work nice and neat i watch you because you do things right and tell it like it is
I don't even have a Raptor 700R, I have a Raptor 660R, but I was bored and watched this whole video. Great informative video!🤘😎
Nice to see this ,keep going
Excelente canal. Mi admiración para el maestro. Saludos desde San pedro sula, Honduras.
Man your videos are top notch! Thank you and your crew for sharing your knowledge with the world. But on another note, I sure hope you didn't forget to go back and tighten the two cam gear bolts, cause I don't remember seeing you go back after installing the chain tensioner and tightening them up. I'm sure you did, but that's just one thing I noticed.
Legend has it those bolts flew off detonated the engine
@@anthonyk6265 Yeah the piston would have had a fun time pounding the valves, not to mention the possible damage the cam chain and sprocket would have caused. But it would have been a quick kill, so not much suffering lol.
This helped me so much rebuilding my Raptor 700!
Great video! A nice trick I found out was to use a tire valve tool to insert those circlips!
Awesome video. I love the detail!
LOL Dont know why I am watching this as I have zero intention of doing this ..just kinda fun to watch engine builds ...vicarious satisfaction
hell of a build
I must say this video series has been absolutely amazing! I just completed the build on our raptor 700. It has been so nice to be able to watch a video step by step with all the little tips and tricks to get this done! Thank you partzilla for putting this together!
Awesome! Glad you dug the video. This one is one of the most popular on our channel.
I can't believe I watched this all the way through but I'm so glad I did👍🏿
Watched and enjoyed every minute of this instructional video, greatly appreciated the explanations of every aspect from beginning to end. Need to get me that valve lashing tool for sure... Subscribed to your channel great work
God job , you are awesome I like your job way ❤️
Amazing work man. You are the best engine builder I'd seen. Whoever getting that motor for their project has a fine motor
Thanks for watching!
Wow, that’s really cool. It makes me wanting to try it.
This one was fun. Engine landed in a zippy little race kart.
Wow! This is the best instructional video i've ever seen. I never subscribe, but in your case, I just had to.
Thanks for watching!
WAOO!!AMAZING!! PROFESSIONAL!! THANKS.
I’m a 2-wheeler type enthusiast, but the Raptor engine is quite similar to a Moto engine.
Nicely engineered.
Excellent build video too.
Wiseco pistons have come a long way from the old heavy seizure-prone 2-stroke pistons of the 60s and 70s!
It's really really similar to the XT660 line... Minarelli engine.
If you did this build on a regular basis it wouldn't be a bad idea to make negitive mold blocks out of fiberglass reson .then you can press bearings in all day log without worry of cracking the block .
Pr p
hey great job on the video. I had some trouble finding the part I need though. I need the dowel that transfers the oil between the two crankcase halves
Ingeniero, usted es el mejor, en sus videos son de alta calidad en todo, producción audio visual, su profesionalismo, repuestos Partzilla, en todo definitivamente
My new fav channel

Great job sir
Great video 👍
Been a long time since I rebuilt a vertical split engine, but this was great to watch. I didn't see if you went back and torqued those cam sprocket bolts though?
That's skill.... nice work
That was one exquisite in depth build vid. Kind of makes me glad I just had Yamaha build my Raptor engine though... LOL
How much did they charge you for the rebuild?
Man id love that puppy
great video
Hey man as always I had a great time watching you work..you are good at what you do..when you wrong you say it as it is..we are human and not perfick and don't want to be..
Great detail awesome knowledge thank you
oil blend? 5L of royal purple hmx, 2L of synthetic stp heavy duty stabilizer, 1L of 10w30 chemical additive. blended and filled to level. That's a $160 oil change. I put 2L of it in a 2003 YZ250F engine that I put on a 2007 RMZ frame. that oil mix makes synthetic 5w30 feel like ATF.
just amazing !!!
awesome video, thanks for that. But you forgot to torque the bolts on the camshaft wheel 1:34
I was hoping he was going to catch that. That's the problem with jumping around from one thing to another sometimes. He did an awesome job detailing the build, but not showing those cam bolts being torqued made me cringe.
@@gearhead996 I'm sure he torqued them. It also didn't show him putting the coolant inlet on the cylinder, but there it was. Editing missed it is all.
Nice build.. great explanations..7.2 think I got that.
wow ....high lift cam shaft. they will have power on high RPM👍
Amazing 😉👍🏻
TRICKY HELL ! THIS GUY IS A JEDI MASTER !
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 you are the best , respect 🇦🇷🇦🇷
1986 Trx250r series would be awesome!
This is amazing.
You can put a drill on your ring grinder and make it a lot faster just have to be easy on the pressure ...
Best rebuild video, how about one for my 1973 Suzuki T500?
Need more videos like this on two stoke 250s
We don’t get to hear the first startup! Coooome on!!
U bby gdc xu
Great job!!!
great video. Do video on kawasaki ZX400KE KHII engine please.
Realy cool!!! Thank you)
Nice!! Great video... :-)
good job
You pulled in the crank with the bearing on it but isn’t it better for te bearing to heat up the aluminum carter part (so it expands) en just lay in the crank without pulling on the bearing?
Amazing tools you have there
For funsies see how many times you can say “That’s what she said!” Throughout this video. 😂

Nice video.👍
I do engines as well and always want to do it the right way ..thank you❤👍
do you have to use a press when rebuilding an engine? or can I use a soft blow hammer
I watched this is in detail, even rewinded a few bits to make sure I didn't mis something. I was somewhat disappointed that he didn't start it up.
very helpful
