RUBBISH - He didn't correct her because it was true. The cost of bailing out the UK banks, who had been operating for years under Gordon Brown's fabled "light touch regulation", cleaned out the coffers. And as much as Labour like to rail against austerity now, at the time nobody advocated for an alternative policy. Certainly not the EU, who are rather keen on austerity - imposed (to save the Euro) on Greece, Italy and Spain. Why else would the COALITION Government of 2010 introduce austerity? for fun?

Security vetting in a public body (not a police force) is literally my job and can say that vetting is a great indicator of possible future behaviour. I cannot believe that there are such varied standards. Police should be on some of the highest clearance going, at least CTC (Counter Terrorism Check) which is so detailed your immediate family's backgrounds are also checked.
The standard they should have is any kind of criminal behaviour, including road related charges, should just be refused to join the police until enough time has passed which would indicate positive changes. I myself would say a good 20 years with no further charges would be my bare minimum considering the sensitive nature that comes with the job. Where I work it is 10 year minimum.
100% clearance rate in one area I have to say is nothing but terrifying. That figure should be impossible to reach.

To be fair, they promised how many new officers they would recruit, not how many they would retain.

It's not maths classes she needs. It's brain surgery to implant some integrity and honesty. Two traits she doesn't have. Which means, as it stands, she wouldn't pass the police recruitment test. So she's in no position to talk about which crimes the police should and shouldn't be policing.

    It's such an unforced error.
You could accept that forces were cut, but you're restoring numbers as best as possible and hope to exceed that to actually reach "new" officers.
Even though I politically disagreed with historic conservatives, at least they had a modicum of intelligence.

If the Tories fired 20,000 experienced police officers with many years of service during austerity and replaced them in the past 4 years with new inexperienced recruits who require extensive training, how is that an improvement in the overall quality of policing !!!.
