Heather and Brantley, doesn't get any better than that. Notice how their vocals complement the lyrics without a smidge of competition. That's precisely how to serve a song. The instrumentalists made it sound so easy. No overplaying. Marvelous in every way!
Surprisingly, Brantley was a little confused in his intro. It's not "an old Gene Watson tune"...Gene covered it in 1980, pretty far down the road of covers. Hank Sr. covered it in 1957. Writers' credit goes to Fred Rose and Mel Foree, not Roy Acuff. Part of the confusion may be that Acuff first recorded it in 1945. But no question, it's most closely associated with the incomparable Hank Williams. Brantley does it great justice with his fine singing and fiddling, as always.
