My belief has always been that marika gained red hair as part of her curse from the giants. Then she gave that to radagon when she split him off from herself.
Which means there was a moment after the war with the giants but before anything else that marika would have had red hair. That could mean that mesmer is a child of godfrey and red-haired marika.
