My friends and I did more than our share of cruising back when they filmed this movie. There were lot's of people on Friday and Sat. night but Wed. drew the most people IMO. Sadly it's a time in history that will never return. My youth I miss it very much.

I read it all in one night. I loved the story and that car just looked so good. ( Okay but I was a 13 year old kid.)

I have never seen this movie but a few years back, (and we in the UK lag way behind you guys stateside in relation to TV programmes), Richard Rawlings and Dennis Collins unearthed a Corvette that had been sitting in a garage for years that was supposed to be the movie car. The thing I remember about the episode is that they hit a low wall on the test drive either coming out of the garage or returning to the seller's premises. Anybody remember that Gas Monkey episode?

I THINK, going off memory, that Firebird ended up as Ponch's in CHiPs, as it had the same hood with TA and Formula scoops and full flares. Also, side note, the freeway closed scene was on the 210 in Sunland, Ca, same freeway used by CHiPs also.

Speaking of Corvettes, you should make a video about the Corvette stingray that Tom Hanks drove in Apollo 13. I know it’s only shown in a few scenes but there’s a really fascinating backstory between NASA and the Chevrolet Corvette during the ‘60’s and early ‘70’s. Many stories of how that association came to be back then that could make for 10 facts.

One thing I never understood: why has there never been a diecast made of this Hollywood car? Every other “movie car” has been done, but not this one. It would make a badass Hot Wheels! They could do a two-pack: One red and one gold.

I prefer the 1971 Firebird from the movie. ;) As for your disappointment in the only known replica ever made that was sold for 15K n change, who knows, maybe the person could not get the legal rights to fully duplicate the movie car. OR more than likely, they just didn't give a rip and wanted their own take on it. Kudos to those that even attempt it.
