- All startup and shutdown sounds ever used in leaked builds of Longhorn pre-reset and post-reset. (Vista Logon and Logoff sounds is not a mistake in case if you were wondering. That's what was used for some startup and shutdown sounds).

Can confirm. I remember seeing Longhorn on a person’s computer and was shocked to what it was, it was very buggy. It had the same Windows XP sound. When I clicked on the list of Windows OS sounds and heard that weird Ethereal noise I knew something was up. Thanks!
Are you sure it was Longhorn and not some sort of buggy skin pack? It sounds odd to even install it on an actual PC as opposed to a virtual machine because Longhorn is essentially useless as an unsupported OS and is not recognized by most programs I tried using so they would fail to install.
@@Sonicrush007 if you want a dope skin pack for Windows XP, get AlienGUIse, it's awesome
@TBS Media Why are you typing in caps? I'm not understanding your comment.
@TBS Media Typing in caps does not make you look good man. I did not disrespect Windows 7. In my personal opinion, I prefer it but I would not use it because it was UNSUPPORTED. I never said it was USELESS.
@TBS Media It's useless as an everyday OS because no third party software works on it because no third party programs support it. Go try Longhorn yourself like I did. I never even bother giving Longhorn much time personally because nothing functions on it.
The first builds up to the end of Beta 1 builds look so beautiful in their natural themes.
2:26 this unrealeased startup was from windows vista and windows 7
I think that was an RC build so it could've been released for the public to test. I honestly don't know anything about that build other than the build number being very very close to the RTM build number (I think it shares the number before the decimal but the numbers after the decimal are different. I'm saying this from memory so I could be wrong)
Build 3683-4008 uses Windows XP Professional boot screen, but the difference is the copyright "1985-2001" has change to "1985-2003".
Yeah, I have noticed that in early builds of Longhorn.
In this case, they just reused previous startups or other system sounds until very late builds that are close to the final release.
They do make startup sounds that are only in builds and not final release, however that might be because they're planning to use the startup in the final release however scrap the idea and make a new startup.
At least we've got closure, I too believed it but when I clicked on this video, this made me believe otherwise, this changed my mind because I now know that Longhorn sound is fake.
yes, this is the correct startup sound.
I like you, Billy O'Reilly!
Thanks!
yes! Finally! I got it, the fake sounds of Microsoft Codename "LongHorn" are the sounds of the Windows XP Royale Remixed theme!
or not?...
the startup sound...
XP Royale Remixed was a theme I tested and it contained only half of the fake Longhorn sounds. The origin of the sounds was not themes. It's actually more likely it came from Samsung because Samsung Galaxy phones have been known to have used some of those sounds.

kids when they realize that the longhorn startup and shutdown sound effects are actually from a Samsung theme from Windows XP:
Wonder why Builds 5469, 5491, 5536-5552, 5600-5712, 5718-5840 Have the normal Xp startup but the final shutdown sound.
That's not the final shutdown sound. That actually became the final logoff sound and they changed the shutdown sound a couple of build versions before the RTM build. As for why they mixed them, no one knows. It seems that they were pretty much messing with the sounds until they liked it. Notice how on one build, it had Vista logon for startup and Vista logoff for shutdown and then it went back to Windows XP startup and Vista logoff.
Also note that on the "5491, 5536-5552, 5600-5712" part, there was a range of builds and part of it is because some builds in between were not leaked or never existed.
@Yue Ling - Refined 5536-5552, and 5600-5712 exist. Builds between 5553-5567 and 5569-5590 are not confirmed to exist.
@@Sonicrush007maybe the RC1 build number was changed to 5600 to accommodate to the "multiple of 16 rule" since 5600 is a multiple of 16. This is strange considering the rule only applied to RTM builds from Vista to 10 (Version 1507).
Ouch, now I have a truthache.
Real Windows Longhorn Sounds
Fake sounds are better than hearing the windows xp sounds over and over again.
So Vista RTM startup and shutdown sounds were started to use only in build 6000
The first build to have Vista startup/shutdown sounds by default is 6000.16384, and I think the RTM of Vista was build 6000.16386 or something like that…
In other words, Windows Vista nearly had XP’s startup sound 😅
Wasn't the first build to have them by default 5840.16389?
The desktop image you have for build 5568 is the desktop for build 5600.
Didn't notice that. I'll change it next time. Thanks!
2:25 When it started to use the final startup and shutdown sounds
It’s still kinda funny how the de facto longhorn sounds never actually existed in the official builds.
Because it’s actually not Microsoft’s sounds. Samsung has been known to have used a couple of those sounds in Samsung Galaxy phones which would be odd if it’s truly Microsoft’s because they are using a competitor’s sounds.
The origin of these sounds are Longhorn-inspired themes which claimed that they were truly in Longhorn which they were not.
Billy O'Reilly yeah I know lol, I just found it funny how every damn RUclips video that shows the history of windows startup and shutdowns includes the “longhorn sounds”.
@@dislikebot I see that very often. If you look at my channel, you'll see a video called "Fake/Incorrect Windows Startup and Shutdown Sounds" where I basically show fake sounds, OSes, and bootscreens. Everything in there is what you'll see in many videos that claimed to be all Windows sounds. Some of those so called "Windows Sounds" were never even used by Microsoft and were not even produced by them.
They came with my copy of longhorn as external sounds (don't know why)
@@Thunderbirds404 Longhorn never released on CDs that you can get. You can't get Longhorn on a CD at least anymore. The general public never got CDs of Longhorn. Only Microsoft developers and probably a select number of testers such as journalists on CNET and news networks got it (because it is expensive to buy CDs and ship them all to different addresses).
Longhorn doesn't even come with those sounds. The fact that Samsung actually used those sounds in their phones should probably be enough to tell you that Microsoft never made those sounds. Most likely the sounds were probably intended for some other device when they were produced in 2003, maybe a Linux distribution. There is no way that Samsung would use sounds made by a competitor. It simply wouldn't make any sense at all.
Builds 6000.16384 -
6000.16385 and Final is Windows 7 & Vista!
In fact, Vista RTM is 6000.16386
More accurate, yet these WNR kids cry about that even if they didnt try it on a VM
I thought they were just making sounds for their videos.
what's funnier is the fake sounds actually came from an official samsung theme for xp
You have the wrong boot screen for 3683-4008. Those builds have a modified version of the XP boot screen, but with a different copyright date.
You are correct. I probably knew that but I used the XP Professional RTM bootscreen by mistake because of the similarity. I will take note of that. Thank you.
@@Sonicrush007 No problem! 😃
@@neonsparklestarlightgamer2153 I believe all until RTM. This person managed to make it appear in an early build of post reset Longhorn: ruclips.net/video/hsxbK-tw23g/видео.html
The red screen of death was used for Windows Boot Manager errors. What's weird though is that I heard all versions of Windows even before Longhorn had a red screen of death for only some serious errors. I'll guess what I heard is not true.
even Windows 98 had a red screen if the ACPI or BIOS encounters an error
lol so if all of these are longhorn, then just do this, windows xp startup and shutdown sounds builds 3400-4500 or idk and then vista startup to 5000-6000 lol
This was a clip taken from my "All Windows Startup and Shutdown Sounds" video. Desktop and boot screen logos do matter as well. Also, the sounds are much more complicated than that. It changes quite a bit differently than just that on certain builds.
It's funny how they went from pre reset RC1 server 2003 Codebased longhorn, started over with post reset sp1 beta server 2003, beside that, is actually RC1 server 2003 stable? I wonder why longhorn was very unstable even though it used the RC1 server 2003 codebase, i ever run build 4008 on my computer and it was stable beside some hardware can't install correctly.
I have no idea how stable it was, but it could be that the explorer.exe modifications were just bad.
@@Sonicrush0073××× builds up to build 4066 seems fine and stable for me, 4074 up to 4093 got memory leaks and broken safe mode as far as i know. I ever tested 4074 and the explorer just restarting itself
@@microsoftcodenamewhistler7594 That sounds about right. I did a video on 4053 and I don't remember it being that bad. When I did 4093, it was terrible.
@@Sonicrush007 4093 unbootable, instability, memory leaks, broken safe mode. Was the reason why the project was resetted, that explains it
@@microsoftcodenamewhistler7594 That was one of the reasons. The main reason was actually that Microsoft saw the new Mac OS X version that released in 2005 and they saw how it had far more advanced features and looked more modern. The original Longhorn looked more like another Windows XP with a theme that was a different color plus a few more features.
Microsoft could have fixed those issues later on if they stuck with the original project, but I don't think it's that easy to fix either.
This is nostalgic
I think the one who made that video where the startup and shutdown sounds literally like heaven has an a build that was never leaked to the public
Or edited the video or of course changed the sounds in the windows files
No such build that uses the fake sounds exist. The sounds came from NeoSounds.com and were intended as a sound pack for Windows XP. Microsoft does not use third party sounds in their OSes. They hire people directly to make sounds for them.
Also, anyone can claim to have an unleaked build. Don't ever trust anyone who says they have an unleaked build and refuses to even make an attempt at making it public unless there is a genuine reason for it and the supposed leaker has a good history behind them. If they have zero history of leaking behind them and they refuse to leak it, they are just lying to you and do not want to admit to it.
Aren’t the ones before the RTM startup sound the Login and Logoff sounds of the RTM?
Yes, indeed but some builds used them as startup and/or shutdown sounds.

2:06 That's different.
For Milestone 7, how do you make the startup and shutdown sounds play? Their not playing whenever I startup or shutdown 4074.
I was never able to get them to play because I could not find a compatible sound driver. I only knew what the sounds were because I ripped the sounds off of the VM to make sure they’re XP sounds and not just an incorrect title or something.

I know this because I have been experimenting with Windows OSes and builds for seven years. You can download Longhorn builds online for free and try it out on a VM. All Longhorn builds to either half way through Beta 1 or Beta 2 of the post reset project have Windows XP sounds.
I didn't produce this video without any sort of research. I literally looked into every build I could. On other videos, you do not see people going as in depth as I am. Windows xp
Longhorn copied windows xp's sound
Ahhh, Windows Vista before it was bad
Longhorn was actually worse in terms of stability. Nothing is more unstable than a development build. Longhorn had explorer.exe leaks and other bugs that caused serious stability issues which lead to one of Microsoft’s reasons to abandoning the old Longhorn project.
The old Longhorn project was seriously not something you wanted. It was actually way too similar to XP to gain any popularity. It would’ve failed due to Mac OS X new features which shocked Microsoft, Vista was the right answer but they had one last job which they failed to do: Make it stable for those who upgraded. It was very unstable for PCs that upgraded from XP. Machines with Vista preinstalled actually ran very well on Vista. These stability issues on upgraded machines were eventually fixed but it took them three years to do it which was far too long to save the OS.
@@Sonicrush007 ok, thanks
Also when is the next video
@@Sonicrush007 it's really not their fault that think vista sucks, it's really the oem's fault.
OEMs and Microsoft share the fault. OEMs mislead people into thinking their XP preinstalled PCs could actually run Vista well by putting "Vista capable" on their XP stickers. Microsoft allowed OEMs to do this and Microsoft actually got sued for this. It was also Microsoft's fault for failing to fix Vista in time. Vista could be unstable on even preinstalled machines sometimes due to bugs in the OS which took Microsoft three years to completely patch them all but it still did not help Vista's market share due to the reputation not improving and Windows 7 coming out.
Vista was a really good OS after 2009 due to Service Pack 2 being released. When I was on Windows Vista, I had absolutely no issues because I only had it on Service Pack 2. Never once had I ever seen Windows Vista crash on my PC before. I did however had freezing at times that would last for 10 seconds, beep a couple of times and continue functioning as normal but that was because I was running too many programs at once for the 5 GB of RAM. I used to use 3-4 GB of RAM to use on VMs and try to run Chrome at the same time and that's what caused that to happened. I blamed it on Vista but I didn't know anything about computers back then. Other than that Vista was an absolutely amazing OS in my experience. I could totally live with it if it was still supported by Microsoft and all applications today.
@@Sonicrush007 yeah. i heard from the science elf that the "vista capable" pcs could only run the home basic sku.
