I really enjoyed this video, Kiva. Very informative. A few years ago, I bought the Radley sectional and storage ottoman from Macy's in dark gray for my son. It is comfortable and has held up well. Fortunately, I did not experience any delivery issues with Macy's. With respect to Pottery Barn and West Elm (which are under the Williams Sonoma umbrella), I have been waiting for a chair for seven months from Pottery Barn and have now been told that it will be at least another month. Same with West Elm. I ordered two chairs from them mid April and was advised that the earliest delivery date will be mid-September. Knowing their delivery record, I will be lucky to receive them before the end of the year. I am a long time Pottery Barn customer, but after I receive my chairs, that is it. I will no longer purchase any furniture from either West Elm or Pottery Barn. Customer service is the worst and quality has declined. So disappointing.
I loved the look of that that Plush sofa, so I went to look and it's $2000! Then I realized I was looking at the big sofa, not the 2-piece sectional that you pictured, and that is $1300 and is now saved for when it's time to get a sofa this fall/winter. The Big Sur is SO COMFY! I love that you can get 3 cushions, since I like turning and rearranging my cushions all the time so they don't develop dips.
Great video. The con of getting a sofa and then needing to return it is super important to think about. Recently I purchased a sofa for my Alaskan condo. Obviously, it is important to buy furniture locally and not online so companies like Amazon or Ikea were out. And none of the furniture stores you talk about have locations in Alaska. So, I went with Ashley Furniture. I wanted to find a reasonably priced sectional that could be made into a bed and I thought I found the perfect one at Ashley after sitting in it for like a second. Then I got it delivered and it was incredibly hard and uncomfortable and I had to return it. So, I called and spoke to their manager who cheerfully told me it could be returned and I found a much more comfortable sofa (but not a sectional). I was so happy to find a furniture store with such good customer service.
I love Ashley Furniture! I have a dining room set and sofa & chairs from them that I bought years ago and LOVE - the style, the comfort, the durability/quality, and the delivery service was excellent, too.
Your cautionary comment about West Elm's five-month delivery made me laugh! I ordered the Andes bed from them last fall. NINE months later, I'm still waiting for it to be delivered, with no end in sight. I'll be lucky to get it by Fall. Five months would've been a dream! Unless you order a piece they already have in stock (limited fabrics, certain leg options, etc), prepare to go without your furniture for up to a year. Don't believe the online delivery estimate window. When I ordered, the original estimate was for December 2021 delivery.

I used the rocker prior to baby delivery when I was up in the middle of the night due to heartburn and loved it! Little one is now 6 days old and loves the rocker ruclips.net/user/postUgkxXH3jIpsn6vpr3D26KWAriUejh7CSxVp7 , she gets great sleep when used. I had a 1st degree tear repair so sitting can be very uncomfortable and down right painful when the rx mortin wears off, however even then the rocker is firm enough for support but soft enough to feel comfortable. I'm 4'9" so I fit in the chair easily and my 6"3' friend also can sit comfortably in it with a little one. 💖 I would definitely recommend this rocker as a must have for any parent to be👍
Too much trouble to get large furniture from Ikea or Amazon.Try the regular furniture store for convenience, a store that has quality furniture will do nicely.
Should we not be worried about the under-structure, i.e. hardwood frames vs. cardboard etc.....I would love to see a vid on what makes a quality sofa...not just price...If we knew about the structure we could ask sales people about it....I had an article sofa. Very poor under-structure!
I bought a sectional queen sleeper sofa from Ethan Allen 20 + years ago. I had it covered with a heavy Italian Robert Allen tapestry patterned fabric. I still have it. I had the pullout bed replaced. This was a costly sectional bc of the sleeper part and the fabric. But it has survived cats children and many sleep overs for twenty years. It is in a den where the tv is. Very well used piece of furniture. My college aged son loves this sofa. Many Fortnite games played while sitting on it in middle school and high school. My daughter watched many movies with multiple friends sitting on this sofa. This sofa is in a high profile part of the house. It is not hidden in a basement. I told my husband this is it. We are never going sofa shopping again 20 years ago. He figured it was worth the price if he never had to buy another sofa. 😂😂😂Buy good and hold. Don’t go cheap on a sofa!
I've been loving my KIVIK sofa. Was available in a nice charcoal color in my neck of the woods (Japan). Comfortable sofa for lounging and I can't count how many times I've fallen asleep on this couch and woke up feeling great (bad habit I know). Thanks always for your great videos!

Kiva!!!!! I’ve been looking/shopping around for a sofa for approximately 4 months!! I don’t want a sectional or modular unit. I will not buy online. I need to try the sofa prior to buying it and will not deal with having to return it. As a “mature” woman I’m finding it overwhelming just to buy a sofa 😭😭😭. I am 5’ tall and am looking for a medium to firm sofa. My experience in going to the store is that in most cases I can’t even tell the actual color due to lighting or worse. I live in Fl. If the sofa has been displayed near the window for an extended period of time the sofa has discolored. At this point I’ve just given up. 😭😭😭
Great suggestions! I have the Andes in performance velvet! Very nice! The only con is it sits a bit to low for my mobility issue. So weird because I did sit on it in the store. In hindsight, I think I loved the look so much perhaps that blinded my decision making. Unfortunately, I’m not enjoying sitting on it as much I would like. Oh yes, I bought during peak pandemic and it was a few months before delivered.
The Kivik sofa is extremely low. Ended up giving it to my teen nephews. They use it as a video game sofa. They placed it about 5 ft away from their big screen, so they are about eye level. I would not buy for a primary sitting area.

If stored, be sure to photograph, insure full replacement $$; check storage unit at regular intervals--don't assume unit is dry, safe, etc.

Only ones I can afford (sort of) is the Rivet and the KIVIK sofa but it's now it's over $1,300 for the Rivet and $800 for the KIVIK. I really want the Radley sofa because you mentioned arthritis and my elderly dad has it really bad. He says the cheap one we got from Walmart back support broke and it hurts him to sit on it. I'm trying to find something cheap but will last longer than 1 year and comfortable for my dad. I'm stressing out over it. If you can please do a updated video because this one is 2 years old. Thank you . I’m looking for a deep comfortable but not too low sofa. If it’s too low it pulls on my knees when I go to get up. I really want to be able to lay on it and take a nap. I ordered the pin/tuck duvet cover and shams from West Elm (California king) they sent me standard shams and gave me a hard time with getting the correct ones. I feel like there are better options out there than West Elm.

I had three IKEA Kivik chaise loungers I put them all together to make a huge hang out for us all to watch movies and everyone loved them! We used them to death for 5 years and they held up to kids, dogs, adults sleeping on them overnight lol Best purchase for the $ I ever had!!

A sofa missing from this list is the Nomad by Burrow. Beautiful modular piece, very customizable (upholstery, legs, configuration), responsible customer service, and arrived within a reasonable time. I wonder what you think of it. So far, I'm a fan!
I’ve seen so many bad reviews about Burrow. After a bad experience with Andes/West Elm I am interested in the Nomad, but put off by the Reddit reviews. 😆
We have the leather three seater from Burrow. It's gorgeous and extremely well made, but I can't get comfortable enough to enjoy a movie on it because the leather is so slippery! My legs just slide off no matter what I do. I finally bought a stool, but I hate that it slides away from me. If I had to do it over again, I wouldn't buy the Burrow.
This is a fantastic video; it was honest and informative. I wish you would have stated your best buy overall pick. I would go with the Arhaus. Restoration Hardware is getting away with the name because to me they are overrated. Please...please do one on beds and nedroom furniture.
Buyer beware of Macy's furniture orders! We ordered furniture and 9 months later they were still pushing back the delivery date. Needless to say we canceled our order. If you have an extreme amount of time to wait to get your furniture. Macy's does have nice stuff.

Anyone ever shop with Castlery and buy a couch? Their Ethan lounge sofa is on my dream list, but a lot of their couches fit what I'm looking for with an industrial-esque feel. Anyone have any experience shopping with them, though?
To be fair, judging anything for how it looks on a computer and expecting it to come out properly matched is fraught with problems, period! You have zero control or knowledge of the equipment they used to take the pictures, as well as post-processing of the pictures, any compression used (lossy or not, and it can make a HUGE difference) as well as the fact of whatever display devices you use and how everything is tuned, and the light you view it in. If you’re not super picky about fine details such as textures and colors, especially with a tight budget, buying something online with no ability to see and test it in person may work well enough. But, there are many things you need to test and use in person, and having gone through the process more than once, this is absolutely one of them. Even in-store in-person you’ll likely run into lighting/color perception differences, but you can also test for size/feel/comfort far better. Thanks for this, though I’ve already committed to none of the above before watching this video 😉
I recently bought an open box Andes from West Elm. Worst purchase ever. It’s supposed to sit firm, but it’s very soft. Advertised at 18inches seat height, but it’s 16 inches. Love the look of it, but it’s a terrible sofa.

If you do, can you tell me if any of the sofas you mentioned come in leather or a really good vegan leather that won't tear with doggy scratches. Or if one of the performance fabrics can protect the cushions if puppy decides (despite being taken out regularly and being neutered) to mark the couch. Yes, I've told the puppy we do not appreciate him doing this even if it is random. We have a mid-century/modern living room. Your advice is greatly appreciated!! ❤
Great video! I literally just ordered a sofa this this morning before watching this video, haha! I was actually considering the Andes sofa, but went with the Article Abisko sofa in Quartz white. They are very comparable in price point, but I don’t have 5-6 months to wait for a West Elm sofa in the color I want. Also, delivery inside my room was only $70! I also found the Andes to be somewhat uncomfortable for everyday, lounging experiences.

I would swap to high density foam inserts. Have had a great sofa for over 15 years by replacing the seat cushions with foam.

For the Macys Radley sofa, do you know if it would be possible to change the legs? I have a small apartment and don't want a sofa that sits so low.

I ordered the pin/tuck duvet cover and shams from West Elm (California king) they sent me standard shams and gave me a hard time with getting the correct ones. I feel like there are better options out there than West Elm.

I had three IKEA Kivik chaise loungers I put them all together to make a huge hang out for us all to watch movies and everyone loved them! We used them to death for 5 years and they held up to kids, dogs, adults sleeping on them overnight lol Best purchase for the $ I ever had!!
Did you have the armrests too? On the customizer this isn't an option but it sounds perfect for a movie room!

A sofa missing from this list is the Nomad by Burrow. Beautiful modular piece, very customizable (upholstery, legs, configuration), responsible customer service, and arrived within a reasonable time. I wonder what you think of it. So far, I'm a fan!

We have the leather three seater from Burrow. It's gorgeous and extremely well made, but I can't get comfortable enough to enjoy a movie on it because the leather is so slippery! My legs just slide off no matter what I do. I finally bought a stool, but I hate that it slides away from me. If I had to do it over again, I wouldn't buy the Burrow.

Buyer beware of Macy's furniture orders! We ordered furniture and 9 months later they were still pushing back the delivery date. Needless to say we canceled our order. If you have an extreme amount of time to wait to get your furniture. Macy's does have nice stuff.
Same happened to me.. had a delivery date and took off work then boom no bed delivered

Anyone ever shop with Castlery and buy a couch? Their Ethan lounge sofa is on my dream list, but a lot of their couches fit what I'm looking for with an industrial-esque feel. Anyone have any experience shopping with them, though?
To be fair, judging anything for how it looks on a computer and expecting it to come out properly matched is fraught with problems, period! You have zero control or knowledge of the equipment they used to take the pictures, as well as post-processing of the pictures, any compression used (lossy or not, and it can make a HUGE difference) as well as the fact of whatever display devices you use and how everything is tuned, and the light you view it in.
If you’re not super picky about fine details such as textures and colors, especially with a tight budget, buying something online with no ability to see and test it in person may work well enough. But, there are many things you need to test and use in person, and having gone through the process more than once, this is absolutely one of them. Even in-store in-person you’ll likely run into lighting/color perception differences, but you can also test for size/feel/comfort far better.

I recently bought an open box Andes from West Elm. Worst purchase ever. It’s supposed to sit firm, but it’s very soft. Advertised at 18inches seat height, but it’s 16 inches. Love the look of it, but it’s a terrible sofa.

I went to Macy's, worked with SA, gave her my measurements. She showed me a sofa that was in store only. So i couldn't view it online. Bought it got here, so beautiful, and it didn't fit. Now they are changing me 400 bucks for restocking fee. Awful.

If you do, can you tell me if any of the sofas you mentioned come in leather or a really good vegan leather that won't tear with doggy scratches. Or if one of the performance fabrics can protect the cushions if puppy decides (despite being taken out regularly and being neutered) to mark the couch. Yes, I've told the puppy we do not appreciate him doing this even if it is random. We have a mid-century/modern living room. Your advice is greatly appreciated!! ❤
Great video! I literally just ordered a sofa this this morning before watching this video, haha! I was actually considering the Andes sofa, but went with the Article Abisko sofa in Quartz white. They are very comparable in price point, but I don’t have 5-6 months to wait for a West Elm sofa in the color I want. Also, delivery inside my room was only $70! I also found the Andes to be somewhat uncomfortable for everyday, lounging experiences.
Watching this in Oct. '22 and the Rivet Amazon sofa that was once $450 is now $880. Good grief.
Great timing and I’m only 8 days late watching it. Lol. I’m “sofa searching” for my MBR and our movie room. For the movie room, I can max out at 100 inches but would like a little room on both sides.
