I own a CODE 50. From day 1, it has always rested atop an old Marshall combo I own, raising it about 18" off the floor. So when I sit, the amp is almost even with my head. I like it a lot. About the phone app, it works great with my Samsung Galaxy. The only thing I don't care for is, when I get a call, the phone's sound is coming through my CODE's speaker.
I had a CODE 50, I couldn't figure it out. So, I put it on Craigslist. Just when I figured it out someone was coming over to buy it. I sure wish I had it back. Personally, I couldn't use this without the footswitch. What I figured out was; First set all your cleans on Buttons 1/2/3, -A For example Fender Clean 1/A, Marshall 1/B , VOX 1/C. You can adjust to taste once you have them saved and can find them readily. After, you can set Fender OD 2A, Marshall Dist 2B, Vox Crunch 2/C. Just keep going with all the others you want in the proper channels. You have 30 slots to fill. Once you've done that you can set them all to taste and put any new personal settings on. Its all about turning it on and knowing that your first tone will be the one you really want. After that, you can always switch because you know where everything is, easy. Not really, but its kinds fun setting it up.
Awesome video. I just got this amp despite the negative reviews, and true to form was disappointed right out of the box, spent a few hours messing with it trying to get a good sound, but now that I have it 3 inches above the floor and have run some of your settings, and fiddled with every setting, I love it. I have it playing exactly how I want it. But I am an old guy too...
Thanks for this Video, much appreciated 👍🙂!! Had this amp for a year or 2 now & finally a couple weeks ago I started using it & wrapping my head around it and everything it can do. I do Livestreams with it so I'm hearing it thru headphones, unfortunately it has no line out on the amp (Code 25) so I going from the headphones jack to my Interface/Mixer thing. I've heard your tip before about getting the amp off the floor a bit from a friend with a Boss Katana Amp that did this and he raved about it! Also there's another RUclips video that talks about doing this! This morning I remembered I think there's an App for it, hmm I don't why but let's check it out. Maybe it was clunky at first but now the Marshall Gateway App for this makes using it alot easier to understand n tweak things up. The coolest is trying all these Custom setup sounds on demand, alot specific to bands/songs. I found it easy to edit the sound by turning off certain effects n whatnot, adjusting the EQ nobs, Gate, Gain, Volume, etc...Also you can pick your pre-amp, power amp, & Speaker Cabinet. You really can get crazy dialing in the sound you want by editing a premade sound that's close to what your going for and tweak it to your exact liking!!! Again I want to express how much I appreciate this video, How I am Brand Loyal and I totally understand why this little gem 💎 of an Amp can be overlooked and criticized. I went into the store to buy a classic MG series Marshall Amp but was promised I could return this amp within a week If I didn't like it, the salesman was trying to sell me on Blackstar Amps, but never hearing of them before I wasn't going for them at all. Later I heard about the Sparks amps everyone raves about n I wish I would of gotten one of those. I'm not like everyone else tho, and now I feel like this Amp is my fate and I absolutely love this amp, it sounds amazing 😍!!
Thanks for the help! I wasn’t sure I’d like the Code but you helped me get started and now after a solid week of tweaking, I’m just playing it without thinking about the amp. I think that’s what we’re all here for! It is possible with this amp. Marshall made it possible to use Code with multiple guitars, players, rooms and ears! New users should watch your video and never give up! Thanks again.
i got mine high up off the floor too at about waist level. it sounds different depending on where your ears are picking it up around the cone, where your mic is set up. i`m using similar settings but on the distortion setting, american od with pretty much everything cranked up except the gate and the mids and cab set to 1912. really hot n` sizzly, hissy n` fizzy 80`s thrash metal style. just by switching cabs and tweaking around a little i got tones pretty close to anthrax/s.o.d., metallica, exodus, pantera, etc. and i can switch between em after i stored them. also within some of the effects like chorus and reverb there are tone level adjustments that you can tweak to create even more different tones with the effect levels on or off. it`s really endless how many different sounds you can get out of just this one amp it blows my mind. i love spending days just playing around with all the different kinds of sounds i can get out of it.
Great find Zac. Makes sense. If you put your home cinema sub on a patio stone the bass in tight and accurate. On the floor muddy and boomy. Same with amps. For the money and for the home guitarist these amps are insane value. Keep on truckin'. Pete UK.
Having a code 100h and a 50, I can tell you that you have a presence and a resonance knob on every amp. Use them. Backing down the resonance and increasing the presence will thin out that flub. Great amps. Isn’t any tone you can’t get!
I sold my katana to buy this one and don't regret it one bit. It's like a middle class man's Kemper. The presets are great, they're not hard to dial it in at all and the footswitch is a breeze. Basically you have to own a brain to use it and know how to work an EQ. It's not gonna replace a 1000 bucks JCM but you should know that. But it sure replaces any pedalboard and fights head to head with any solid state amp out there
realy good video ...still waiting for the delivery i will try your setings when i get it from the store it seem so easy i have katana here from my student sound so thin n like plastik distortion i will compare
Replace the crap speaker in the cab and it makes a world of difference. They use a playback speaker in the cab and it sucks ,if you put a good speaker in the cab it really does change things for the better.I replaced mine with a EVH celestion yeah its expensive but well worth the cost and im a old guy aswell at 52.
Is there a tweak to get these amps to stop fading sustained notes from braking up like a craclking fuzz pedal? My sounds like a fuzz pedal when you turn the bias to the dying battery setting.😮
I just bought a code 50. I've heard about lifting the amp off the floor. What I've noticed since I have a katana 100, and a Gt mustang 100 is the fact that both are open back compared to the closed back in the code
Turning off the cab is a bad idea imo, the code starts to sound like boss metalzone :)) For amps like plexi I add distortion pedal with 0.3-0.5 gain and 0 tone in the chain, it works for bedroom, but you can't gig with this pedal because of insane feedback at high volume.
Why turn off the cab? There are so many to choose from and tweek. Its great amp just need time playing dial it in. I agree the phone app is flawed but again it is at your fingertips ease of use. Dennis knows how to make the code rule look at few of his videos!! ROCK ON BRO!!! good video thank you. Im using the Jubilee 90% Post more videos update how thigs are going to!
Have you used the effects Loop I'm only halfway through your video so if you answer that sorry. I feel there's a volume drop when I try to use the effects Loop. I heard the difference I'm definitely going to make a stand for my code.
JCM Covers so with the 25 and 50 there is no effects loop. What I do currently is thay I run a tight metal jr in the front of an already overdriven channel and it tightens things up. If I need a little more thickness I run a Carolina reaper in sequence with that. Works out great.
Late to the party, here. Just picked up a Code 50 used (couldn't pass up the deal) and am just getting into it now. Thanks for the detailed settings! I haven't been able to try them yet as I am away from my amp but I saved your setting to my app & will try them out tonight. Sounds like it will be right up my ally! Thanks again! P.S. Do you think the "boxy" sound is due to the amp being on a carpeted surface or is it the same on a concrete or solid surface?
not sure what they`re complaining about a boxy sound. it`s a box and cabs are even bigger boxes. the cab setting simulates different cabs with different speakers. some are more bass-y or "boxy" which can all be harmonized by tweaking the bass, resonance, tones, etc., and all the other settings similar to tuning your guitar but a little more complicated.
Great face Zack on your page heading ! ! I can tell you've been doing those your whole life as well ! ! HAAAAAAA ! ! Hey bro, great video ! ! I was wondering how much did you pick your amp up for and if you researched for the lowest price first. I'd rather buy a new one, but I also know people end up finding out that there's too much work involved with creating user pre-sets and creating your signature gig sound and they end up giving up. I think it's a pretty nice amp. Does the bluetooth also allow you to bring up You Tube videos for backing tracks like the spark amp ? Anyway, from one old rocker to another "Music is life, Die living".
So I got mine new. You’ll have to search around for best price honestly. But with the 4th coming up everyone has a sale going. The Bluetooth will allow you to play backing tracks that was a very attractive feature to me when purchasing it. As for tweaking the settings….I feel like people are scared to turn the knobs on amps. What’s the worst that happens? You have to reset the setting? No big. In some of my other videos I give my metal presets that I used quite often. I’m looking at getting another one of these amps just to help people out with questions etc. As of now I’m using a tube amp (peavy 6505mh+). The principles are the same honestly, just on tubes the changes aren’t quite as extreme.
Hey man I’m having trouble setting up the code 50 amp of mine I’ve had for a while anyway we could talk on the phone and you could help me for about five minutes I could pay you! Thanks! Marshall customer support seems to be nonexistent
For no reason, it doesn't make any sound, I just checked everything(the wires, cables, anything broken, even all the patches. Etc...)..but everything is fine.. I just don't know why.. Sometimes it sounds and then stops after a minute or two.. Plis help Or inbox me..
I have the 100H and that model playing through a 4x12 you do need to turn the cab off. Haven't recorded with it yet but would guess having the cab on will be useful. And agree it a great amp, I dont get the bad reviews
I modded my code 50 with a 1/4" output jack that mutes the internal speaker when plugged into my marshall 1960a cab and it sounds very good hooked up this way!It is much better sounding then just playing through the factory internal speaker!

I have 4 compact disk cases under front of amp. Thanks for your setting. Neighbors are passed. So I know it's rocking.
Just bought one of these as an upgrade for a $50 bass amp, this helped a lot cause I’ve never had so many settings
Thanks for this Video, much appreciated 👍🙂!! Had this amp for a year or 2 now & finally a couple weeks ago I started using it & wrapping my head around it and everything it can do. Zach, may I ask for your advice about settings to get a great blues tone? Much appreciated bud.
realy good video ...still waiting for the delivery i will try your setings when i get it from the store it seem so easy i have katana here from my student sound so thin n like plastik distortion i will compare
1:43 on the floor 2:38 off
thx zach, great tips bro.

I put wheels on mine it brought it up about about 3 inches and put wheels and casters on it sounds great
Nice, Relaxed Approach - Thanks Much.
I have a Jerry Cantrell setting if you’re interested.

I agree,i tried it on my code 50 and it sounds thin and too much high end,it just sounds bad to me with the cab sims off!
What is that cool bumper case you have for your iPad? I really need that.
Why turn off the cab? There are so many to choose from and tweek.
Its great amp just need time playing dial it in. I agree the phone app is flawed but again it is at your fingertips ease of use.

Wow!!.... thanks man 🙏🏻
Try putting a port in lower cab
The vox 50 vtx with green back...done
Thank u man, but now I'm mad these things don't come with a dang stand lol

Is changing the speakers an option?
What do you have the EQ set on the top of the amp itself?
It sounds boxy, because every preset has the cab sim on... if you’re playing through the speaker you want that cab sim off.
are you able to connect this amp to a DAW such as Cakewalk or Waveform via the usb port on the top?
yes, works in ableton for me
Yes works with cakewalk
@@bram19502 does it have some latency? I mean, some maybe yes but, is it uncomfortable? I've read some people had problems with it.
@@slandrix5240 recorder a song with it, didn't have any latency issues, it was pretty spot on

Nice vídeo Man!!
Ummm that’s about exactly 3 1/2 inches .. but yea it helps
Does this amp have to be used with a computer?????
no. You can play it normally
I have the 100H and that model playing through a 4x12 you do need to turn the cab off. Haven't recorded with it yet but would guess having the cab on will be useful.
And agree it a great amp, I dont get the bad reviews
same here, have the Marshall Code 100 Combo and love it to bits.
I modded my code 50 with a 1/4" output jack that mutes the internal speaker when plugged into my marshall 1960a cab and it sounds very good hooked up this way!It is much better sounding then just playing through the factory internal speaker!
That's typical closed back amp. Open up the back and enjoy!
rich b unfortunately on the code series you cannot. The power supply is connected to the backing enclosure...
I would put a external speaker mod if I still had mine I just bought the head for cheaper than the combo
Sounds like straight hot garbage with the back off . It was built to have the back
I will NOT take advice or tips from a guy recording vertically....NO...BAD RUclipsR! (I keeeed..thx for the advice)
I hate the cab simulator
