Then the witch struck and cursed my people, turning them into skeletons. They ate twice as much food for 10 days and I couldn't recover from it. When I last logged off, I was in debt and people were dying from starvation. The trauma is real! I feel like I need to start completely over. Edit: So I didn't start over. Letting a few die made survival easier for the others. I closed down one of the quarries and the theater, then concentrated on food and coal production. Then I ran the game in fast forward for a year's time, ignoring all visitors and requests. This got everything back on track. YAY!
1. Follow the "objectives", do them fairly quickly, and don't stray ahead of it. The game literally guides you step-by-step to get you through the first winter. 2. Money comes from ?monthly? taxes so building the population quickly is not a bad thing *as long as everyone has or will have a job.* You are not obligated to accept and house everyone that comes to the village and there is no consequence for turning them away. Also be aware that the "head of household" does NOT work in any building other than their own house. If the yard has a fruit tree or garden the head of household contributes occasionally to that house's food inventory. 3. *Make sure the work buildings have maximum number of workers.* The only work building you may need two of in this first stage is a charcoal burner but the "Secret Santa" gift of 30 charcoal is enough to keep 24 settlers warm through the first winter. 4. I found it better not to build roads to the industrial buildings. The villagers will walk a straight path to the buildings if there are no roads, otherwise they will follow the roads you lay down. I'm assuming there are road upgrades that will speed up walking, but the 90 degree dirt roads actually take longer to walk than a straight path through the field. 5. Running out of money in the first year is a side effect of pausing the game to decide how and what to build. You end up building faster than the game pays you. This game is not a fast paced game and it has times where you should simply watch. Do your planning as you watch instead of waiting until you pause. You can keep the game at 2x speed and still keep up. 6. Every lumber camp can have a forester, but you didn't have the 50 cash to build it.
By "Coal Maker" they presumably mean, "Charcoal Maker", which is actually a historical job. A charcoal maker takes your wood and burns it and then sells you the charcoal. A coal maker takes your wood and buries it for several million years . . . ?
Well, this is a pseudo-medieval setting. Until coal mining picked up in the last few centuries, "coal" by default meant charcoal, while "sea coal" meant coal dug up or, as the name implies, picked up along the coasts when it washed up. Not that the game devs are necessarily thinking about it that deeply.
I like the cute fantasy style of this game. The game play is basically a mix of City Skylines, farthest frontier, Anno 1800, and maybe a little of The Univerism.
I don't normally enjoy this stuff but I thoroughly enjoyed your video. It was well paced and you're very entertaining. I hope you have fun with this game. You honestly made me want to play it too.
Growing the village too fast too soon will drain you of funds, not enough primary buildings to make and little food for the People that keep coming. And taks can be done on a later date you don't have to speedrun the game, it's supposed to be chill. That was your mistake
i think he is expanding technology too quickly, the upkeep cost of them is keeping his income low since he doesn't have enough population to support it. population=taxes=income. new structures=upkeep=payment. there was no reason to build the messengers guild he lost 10 income after doing so.

I wish the game was optimized better, it keeps overheating my pc I had to turn off V-Sync and reduce frame rate to 40fps just to keep my pc from shutting down.
Got to be honest. I couldn't watch the whole thing. Got boring and slow really fast. Tried to fast-forward to something better but no, the whole video was slow and utterly uneventful.
