Greasy Heart is THE JAM. I find JA two 'hits' the least exciting or explorative of their songs. "Eskimo Blue Day" is one of my faves.

@@shwicaz yep. RUclips has “Eskimo Blue Day” live at Family Dog and a 1969 video of “Greasy Heart” that the Airplane did. Both great. But I love the live rooftop performance of “Pooneil” - that band had so many firsts.

Yes that shaky note is Vibrato that Singer Grace Slick uses. Jefferson Airplane was one of the best groups showing the "San Francisco Sound" in 1967 the :Summer of Love" . I met the bands Bass player, Jack Casady in 1984 he came in to a San Francisco club I was playing in a blues band. Jack complimented my guitar playing , which I loved because his band was so great and he also played with Jimi Hendrix on the song "Voodoo Child".

Grace Slick.. the amazing and powerful front woman of the Jefferson Airplane / Starship. She possessed a strong contralto voice with a killa' vibrato. Young people now don't know about the usage of one's vibrato when singing as modern singers tend to not use or develop it. Listen to the greats of yesteryear.. Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Eartha Kitt, all possessed amazing vibrato's. The stylistic usage of one's vibrato makes the music more dramatic and intonative.

They both so much power in their voices. While I never saw Janis live - I did get to see JA, and hear Grace live when they came to Houston, in either '70 or '71.

Grace Slick at times sings in vibrato, the voice is alternating subtly and very quickly between two pitches that are very close together. This periodic variation in the pitch (frequency) of a sustained musical note or tone should not exceed a semitone either way from the note itself. The effect is believed to add warmth to the voice.

Written by Darby Slick, brother of Grace.
Grace is the mother of China, ex MTV DJ. The late Paul Kantner was the father.
Drugs and alcohol ruined all three forms of the band: J Airplane ✈ , J Starship + Starship.

Jefferson Airplane is a iconic band that was formed in the late 60s and remained relevant into the 90s but they changed their name from Jefferson Airplane to Jefferson Starship and then to just Starship the lead singer on this song is a lady named Grace Slick what a cool name huh

Grace said she was made lead singer because her voice was the loudest. I assume she was joking.

Now that you have heard this.....you absolutely need to watch the clip of Jim Carrey doing this same tune in the movie "The Cable Guy". While it is fresh in your minds.

Long time ago I went to see Grace Slick and she lit a joint on stage and got arrested on stage. Lol. True story.
