- From being primed and ready to jump in the F1 car at short notice, to soaking up all the engineering insights and bringing them to the simulator, there’s more to being a Reserve Driver than meets the eye.
We caught up with Frederik Vesti in Australia to find out what he gets up to as one of our Reserve Drivers both at a Grand Prix and back at base.

Vesti is the true 2023 F2 champion. Good luck in ELMS Fred.
What…, he lost the title at Spa when he crashed by his own doing on the reconnaissance lap, Zandvoort when he spun it at T1, and Monza when he went for the stupid move on Stanek and took himself out, Pourchaire wasn’t as fast, but he was consistent as hell, something Vesti wasn’t, which is why he lost the title
@notthefia9154 u are the fia, so what u say goes so... u are correct
Amen
spa yes, but the other stuff is not true. His wheels fell off in zandvoort and the stanek fight was not vesti's fault it was a racing incident but you can blame that on vesti when he pushed onto the grass. Dude for sure deserves a f1 seat more than pouchaire @@notthefia9154
Facts Theo won it in his third season
Thank you for the work you've put in on the W15.
Been top notch entertainment this year.
Hope to see you in an F1 car in 2025, Fred. You deserve it. The real F2 Champion of 2023!
Awesome video! I love seeing Fred at the track and its great to see him hard at work!
Thanks Fred! As always, these videos about the roles that different people play in the entire setup, are always interesting and informative.
Give this man a seat in F1!
Mercedes don't appear to be getting behind him or Mick for an F1 seat so if I were him, I would set my sights on another category.
Big respect Fred, wishing the best for the season. ❤
cool job Fred Vesti!
Thanks Fred. Hopefully you'll get time to drive the w15 as well
His job is to make sure the simulator correlates correctly!
Welp he has done a poor job
@@RALPHLAURENISTHEBEST ya think!
@@RALPHLAURENISTHEBEST That's not entirely accurate
A great insight into the role of a reserve driver!
Thank you Mercedes!
😊🏎️👍🏻
Test Drivers Job before 2008: 🗿🔥✨💫
Test Drivers Job after 2008: 👨💻
Vesti ❤
so basically it's like an f1 internship. neat!
Correlation has been an issue
Mercedes hat sich für Damon Hill entschieden, nach dem Alonso gezeigt hat, das man nie zu alt ist um was zu erreichen. Hill will es mit 63 Jahren nochmal wissen
The job for a reserve F1 driver is that they hope something happens to one of the main drivers so they can get a chance so that way they can put themselves on the radar and get a full time race seat and hopefully not end up like Nyck De Vries.
To not have to work at all but still get paid a nice chunk of money
I think they get paid very little as drivers until they are in an F1 car. I could be wrong and there are probably exceptions to the rule. Bearman said in an interview he was pretty broke.
I think they r paid very little cos their salary is under cost cap... thatd why all these f2 drivers who became development or reserve drivers r seen as jobless
I think on the w15, even with a replacement, you will show results indistinguishable from the current racers.🙃
His job is to prepare for Alpine seat ☠
The way Alpine looks - he’s better off staying a reserve for Mercedes 😂
Laughed 😂 so hard man!
I thought Mick was?
they are both, mick and Fred
Please sign him up for 2025!

should have raced another season in F2
no, that would gurantee him that he have nothing to do in F1!
@@mini3886 not if he won
yes, 3 years in f2 is not good -i mean if you want to race f1. Maximum 2@@LarsAgerbk
Three seasons in F2 would destroy his chances for a F1 seat.
@@olivervestergaard8767 why? If he won it would surely increase his chances...
The job of an F1 reserve driver is do nothing.
