Watching you play theses songs ,I think I can honestly say ,old NY is inside you to . Keep up the good work , best I’ve seen .talk to you later ,take care
This is my absolute favorite song. Not a very complex guitar, more of a poem put to music. But a perfect poem. I appreciate you emphasizing the lyrics and not doing extended instrumentals! I first heard this song when I was young in Iowa working hard and waking up early only to find the thrashers on the road hours ahead of me. I loved Iowa, loved my friends but they were lost in crystal canyons and I burned my credit card, and all my money, and moved south. There are a lot of other powerful lines in this song that resonate with me and I miss my friends but leaving was the right thing to do. I will not be a park bench mutation! Sometimes music gives you courage to do the right thing. There are only a few versions of Neil singing this that I have found and this is the first cover I’ve found. This is a sacred song to me. Thank you jd for your version of this little piece of heaven!
Hey Brad - thank you for taking the time out to comment on my cover of this beautiful NY song. It is just one of those songs that has always resonated within me since I first heard it in the 70's. Happy that you enjoyed it 🤠
Brad, i ditto everything you said, i was lucky enough to see King Neil on his Live Rust tour in 1975 in Philly, he wore white, his hair was shortened, and he had a bunch of little monks with red eyes lit up in brown monk suits and hoods, King Neil was magical, his music lives in me, his wisdom has guided me throughout my life. peace and love brother.
Excellent job! Love this song, reminds me of all the dear friends that have gone on. Ironically it's early in the morning, and I'm going to attend another funeral service today of another dear friend. Made my heart melt . listening this song again. THANK YOU.

Now this performance is simply superb.....sublime. That 12-string sound is indeed perfect. I had never heard this song previously and after playing it repeatedly today, it has become one of my favorite Neil Young songs. I've never heard Neil Young sing this, and I'm frankly asking myself now why I even need to listen to his version. I'm so glad I found your Neil Young covers, J.D. I'm an American who has been living in Germany for many years. I sing in a duo with an excellent German guitarist who is a good singer in his own right. Your covers give us ideas about how to manage these songs with just one acoustic guitar. Continued success to you!
Thanks for posting this cover. You make me want to build my callouses back up and get myself a 12-string for the express purpose of learning the fingering. Thank you for sharing. Lovely cover, this made my morning & I’ll no doubt be humming this all day.

Hey Hey, My My sounds great with the gain turned up all the way, hehe. I wouldn't attempt it on the 12-string though. A Les Paul or Tele works better for that. Also a fuzz box or distortion pedal.
@@HarvestMoonAustralia Great job, it’s real hard to pick a favorite Neil tune but this is right up there at the top. Thank you , because you played it so well you inspired me to break out my 12 and my harp and start playing this again. 🤘🔥🤘
I love my 12-string ac. electric. The only thing with the 12er is getting used to being patient putting new strings on and setting it up, and tuning the thing. Tuning is easy but doing alt. tunings can take some patience as well. It's also a wise idea to keep the guitar tuned down a full step and then using the capo constantly, depending on what the song calls for. Helps save the life of the instrument for sure. The 12-string is essential for Neil, also R.E.M. and Byrds and stuff like that, and power pop, even some Beatles. If you play any of that, I would go invest in a good 12-string.
@@HarvestMoonAustralia Do you know what tuning Neil used on the Rust Never Sleeps versions of the song, esp. the one in the film? I don't recall him using a capo, maybe he just tuned to standard full concert pitch for live? Otherwise I always tune my 12-string down a full step and just use a 12-string capo for everything, in general.
good. could have been so much better with better audio equipment to record separate voice and separate instrument - too much room echo. taylor make a mighty fine 12-string - mine jangles just like yours.
