Any tick where the whole deck changes are great a deck righting it self as in Triumph is great. Along with color changing deck. One of the first tricks in Royal Road is a triuph like effect but thier is no chosen card. you just mix them up face down to face up and then you get them to right themselves. It is one of my go to effects when I see a deck of cards at a party.
Excellent list - 8 of 10 in my repertoire. Others to include - Card on Ceiling, Bannon's Triumph, Sankey's Back-in-Time, Paul Vigil's Sympathy for the Devil, Card Warp and Anniversary Waltz. With a gimmicked deck, highly recommend Josh Jay's Prism

I don't know if gimmicked card tricks count. I guess they do, since you mentioned Skinner's ultimate monte! (Great trick, btw). The one card trick ... in fact the one trick period ... that baffled me the most ever, was a Svengali deck trick with blanks. I don't know the name of the trick or who invented it, but it goes like this: The magician browses through a deck showing that the backs and faces are normal. Then he shows the top card to everyone.and asks a spectator - preferably a child between 8 and 12 - what card it is. The kid names the card - say, 8 of clubs. The magician places the card face down on top of the deck and asks the same person what the top card is. And the person naturally says 8 of clubs. But the magician shows the face of the card, and it's blank. He puts the card back in the deck and browses through the deck again, and now all the card are blank on both sides! When I first saw that, I was so mind-blown that I was was surprised my jaw didn't hit the floor and my eyes didn't roll out of their sockets!

Fantastic list! One I tell people imho that they should learn is Cannibal Kings. It’s such a fun trick to do and I’m surprised more magicians don’t do it
I don't see anybody mentioning 'Cards Across.' I think that deserves a top 10 spot. And if you need further convincing, checkout David Blaine's performance of Cards Across on Jimmy Fallon (the show with The Roots). He absolutely floored everybody! Plus, it's easy to do.

Excellent list, very comprehensive but would have to wave a flag for "Angle Z" and Simon Lovell's "Namer" effect (A card is chosen, signed and then the back changes colour) two constant staples of many years of performing.
From the comments seems like there needs to be a top 100 list. :) One that I love, but haven't seen mentioned upon a quick scan of the top comments, is the biddle trick. I actually do a version that happens in the spectator's hands (which I haven't been able to find a source for - I made it up after learning the table version, but presume there must be a source for an in the hands version - if you know one, please let me know). It gets GREAT reactions!
Great list, sir. I certainly enjoyed Triumph the most - Vernon's Triumph and Jay Sankey's Back in Time among others - and currently perusing through John Bannon videos and loving the Play it Straight/Bannon Triumph trick. Out of the list, the only one I haven't learn or perform is 'Twisting the Aces'...I don't know, I felt intimidated by it somehow. Well, I suppose that will be a goal for this year then.
Also one of the "Do as I do" tricks. One of Karl Fulves' self-working versions for novices or Dai Vernon's version in one of the books in the "Inner Secrets of Card Magic" series written by Lewis Ganson. Finally, "Once in a knife time" by Frank Garcia, which I believe is in his book, "Million Dollar Card Miracles."
Awesome list. I think that wild card, Do as I do/Triple Coincidence, a magician in trouble- ala Design for Laughter, Colour Changing Deck and a mentalism or stack trick deserves a mention. Great video plot, by the way.
Ultimately card to wallet I Love to do. But best card trick in the world has to be.... Invisible Deck without a shadow of doulbt 😁Loving the Chanel as always 👍
@@magicorthodoxy Did wonder but the inclusion of Chicago opener threw me, as it could be argued that does too! it can't be done with a borrowed deck without adding 'something'…
Honorable mentions, Ace cutting or an Ace assembly (a 4 of a kind type trick). Don't think I saw a sandwich effect in there. Jonah and the Whale is another one that's good for any/every card magician, or some type of poker hand trick (helps to satisfy the gambling theme that is most associated with cards). Great list, David!
Invisible Deck? Great list David but is it just for regular decks? As no matter how many card tricks I learn - the Invisible Deck still gets the best reaction..! 🙏😃
i would personally put sandwich card effect in that list. but its a pretty solid list, a lot of tricks from the past decades are just variations of those ten basic effects.
Spectator is directed to open your website on their phone. They have a quick look and put their phone to one side as we will come back to it later. A deck of cards shuffled, and spectator is asked to choose a card. They keep this card to themselves. You introduce a set of 3 coloured dice and show they all roll random numbers. The spectator then rolls the dice for as long as they wish. Once the spectator is happy with their roll of the dice: They have selected a card and rolled random 3 coloured dice. The magician then asks the spectator to pick up their phone and scroll down your website to the bottom of the page. They find a prediction of the day image: An image of one card turned over on a facedown deck, and 3 coloured dice, all matching the spectators’ choices. 😉

Out of the list, the only one I haven't learn or perform is 'Twisting the Aces'...I don't know, I felt intimidated by it somehow. Well, I suppose that will be a goal for this year then.
Thanks for sharing!
How about Spectator Cuts the Aces (one of the hundreds of version a)
great one
Also one of the "Do as I do" tricks. One of Karl Fulves' self-working versions for novices or Dai Vernon's version in one of the books in the "Inner Secrets of Card Magic" series written by Lewis Ganson. Finally, "Once in a knife time" by Frank Garcia, which I believe is in his book, "Million Dollar Card Miracles."
Great list!
Glad you enjoyed it
Awesome list. I think that wild card, Do as I do/Triple Coincidence, a magician in trouble- ala Design for Laughter, Colour Changing Deck and a mentalism or stack trick deserves a mention. Great video plot, by the way.
this list was strictly no gaffs cards
Cards across is a great plot. I do a version of Las Vegas leaper almost Everytime I use cards
Very cool!
I watched this video with great interest, I loved the list of tricks, but I thought you would climax with ACAAN. But a great list nevertheless. Thanks
Great suggestion!
Ultimately card to wallet I Love to do. But best card trick in the world has to be.... Invisible Deck without a shadow of doulbt 😁Loving the Chanel as always 👍
yea, i'd put that in a "top 10 gimmicked decks" list
Card Warp, Cards Across, and Rising Card are 3 distinctive card effects/themes that should be on the list.
cards across for sure
BWave should definitely have had a mention!
maybe, but that needs a gimmick
@@magicorthodoxy Did wonder but the inclusion of Chicago opener threw me, as it could be argued that does too! it can't be done with a borrowed deck without adding 'something'…
The Biddle Trick is in my top 3. No Gimmicks. Regular borrowed deck. 2 Card Monte is good too, although similar to Dr. Daleys
yea, Dr Daley is a 2 card monte of sorts
2 card monte is great
I also love Twisitng the aces.
:D
Lennart Green's FISM act is the reason I'm into magic. It can be tough to categorize some of it haha
man, wouldn't it be amazing to go to FISM
@@magicorthodoxy It sure would!
Excellent list David 👍🏻👍🏻
I’ve got some work to do 🤪
me 2
Color Monte is the best for me!
I used it have it years ago
I think Card Warp due to its uniqueness
Card Warp is awesome
"SLOP SHUFFLE" and all its variations.
love it
Paul Harris Las Vegas Leaper
card across is a great plot
Honorable mentions, Ace cutting or an Ace assembly (a 4 of a kind type trick). Don't think I saw a sandwich effect in there. Jonah and the Whale is another one that's good for any/every card magician, or some type of poker hand trick (helps to satisfy the gambling theme that is most associated with cards).
Great list, David!
great suggestions !!!
that is such a nice topic!
oh good !!!
Nick Trost for me is the GOAT for card tricks (his books)
I have his entire set !!!
Invisible Deck? Great list David but is it just for regular decks? As no matter how many card tricks I learn - the Invisible Deck still gets the best reaction..! 🙏😃
yea, just for regular decks
i would personally put sandwich card effect in that list. but its a pretty solid list, a lot of tricks from the past decades are just variations of those ten basic effects.
sandwich is great
The best monte ever created was by garret thomas. because its angle proof and has zero restrictions unlike ultimate monte.
thanks for the tip
Billon Dollar Brain a full mem deck reveal. A heavy mental lift, but so rewarding.
:D
Fantastic top 10 list! What about ace assemblies?
totally should have had one
Spectator is directed to open your website on their phone. They have a quick look and put their phone to one side as we will come back to it later.
A deck of cards shuffled, and spectator is asked to choose a card. They keep this card to themselves.
You introduce a set of 3 coloured dice and show they all roll random numbers.
The spectator then rolls the dice for as long as they wish. Once the spectator is happy with their roll of the dice:
They have selected a card and rolled random 3 coloured dice.
The magician then asks the spectator to pick up their phone and scroll down your website to the bottom of the page.
They find a prediction of the day image:
An image of one card turned over on a facedown deck, and 3 coloured dice, all matching the spectators’ choices. 😉
:D
@@magicorthodoxy One of my effects in Flitch, plus Kinetic D...
Awesome video!
Thanks for the visit
Maybe and oil and water trick
yes, many other commenters agree with you
I whas realy suprised that u did not mention the ACAAN routines...i realy think it should be on that list ! Otherwise a realy goed list!
Yes - and Oil and Water and an Ace Assembly
