We DID NOT expect this in DELHI 🇮🇳 | Hauz Khas Village
It's easy to think of India's capital New Delhi as a massive concrete jungle. Most foreigners impressions of the city is that it's chaotic and dirty. Plenty of those areas do exist in Delhi but there's also plenty of nice, clean and peaceful areas.
Haus Khas Social was a complete culture shock. It was almost the opposite what we had been experiencing the first few days in India. Modern... neon... cocktails... and hip hop!
Hauz Khas is famous for it's Momos and quirky hipster nightlife...

No, it's not for good luck for them. It is to show affection to the child without transfering their germs to the kid. In ancient India people had a lot of do's and don'ts about touching etc. Most things were done in a way to avoid contact with people you didn't know closely. Even our greeting Namaste is designed to show respect while keeping your hands to yourself. So this gesture is a leftover remnant of an old custom.
Ye trika h ki bacchon ke prati prem sneh khusi muskan or uske isi muskurahat eeise bni rhe ye darsata h...
What they really want to do is kiss the kid, but they don't want to pass their germs on to a small child whose immunity is lower than that of an adult, in short Indians are thoughtful

Instead of physically kissing, it's a kissing gesture when you see someone's child but don't want to kiss them to not transfer germs. It's become a common practice
I don't think it's about germs
It’s because it’s unhygienic to kiss directly. This is how everyone kiss younger ones or someone you love, to show your affection. They don’t go for face or hand and kiss.if asked you will hear answer as “It’s kissing because she/he is lovable”, because everyone (majority) follow parents without questioning here. Even if they answer, answer would be, “We followed our elders without questioning so will you. They did this for a good reason, so do not question them.” 😂
@Kerid Dunk It most definitely is. We don't believe in putting out mouths on other peoples children. If we're related to the child we'll blow strawberries on their bellies and show affection but when it's a strangers child that we just find cute and want to express that we do that whole touching cheek and kissing our fingers to express how cute they are but wouldn't dare put our whole face and mouth on them. Indians are pretty aware of germs. We did invent shampoo (champu) and soap (sabun) sooooo.
It's not for germs. Sometimes others don't like their kids being kissed by others. So people do it this way

But at the same time most Indians are relatively very warm hearted and usually melt at sight of adorable kids. So they still touch a kid of stranger , but at same time are mindful of not holding them and planting a kiss directly on cheek of sweet kid.
