Now I know why my spliced areas of yarn were so thick! My yarn appears to have three plies and I was only pulling one ply out of each end of them instead of one ply out of one end and two plies out of the other end. I had decided to skip cables altogether and just concentrate on the raglan construction itself, the shawl collar, and your special pockets since it will be my first sweater. (first garment period) After watching this video, however, I really think I might be able to handle including a simple instarsia cable as well! I wanted so badly to finish this video but I couldn’t because of the dog’s noises. I have misophonia and it sucks because repetitive, unpredictable noises trigger the heck out of me. I made it 10 minutes through but got to the point where I couldn’t focus on anything but the dog noises. This looks so cool. I tried using the captions but I can’t read it and pay attention at the same time. :( It’s lovely work you did there.

I was making a messenger bag in coal grey with cables, and I wasn't very pleased, because the cables were blending. Now I can pick it back up, thanks to you. Also the tip for splicing is heaven sent. I always hated the idea of spit part lol. Now, can this be done with any cable?

Currently I’m knitting a pair of socks with a tremendous amount of cable stitches, and I’m more than ready to try to work it without a cable needle. Please wish me luck!

Don’t panic, start with a simple diamonds eg. 10 stitches wide in the main colour, 2 st for the cable and knit as usual, just be careful when changing the colour,not to end up with a haul , use the same yarn for the cable, don’t cut it, but leave it loose, it is very simple for the beginning, good luck
Anyway, this seems more rewarding and do-able than socks. This is beautiful work. I'm going to try 'intarsia cables in the round' first, then tackle this many colored threads. I can do these cables all in one color however, the colored braid is too gorgeous to pass up.

Hi Suzanne - I see in your sample that you're using to ends of the yellow/gold color yarn. How does that work when attempting to incorporate the skein of alternate color yarn in the actual pattern for ITAG cardigan? It's easy w/working a swatch since you can use a long strand of yarn, however, when it's in a skein I'm confused as to how to get the two ends unless I pull from the outer and inner skein and that doesn't make sense to me either. Thank you for all your tutorials. It's slow-going for me but I'm learning.
Wow! It looks so beautiful! But while you read the charts and explain, for me you could be speaking mandarin for all I could make out. I am a beginner and charts freak me out. It is like my mind blocks it altogether. Can you do a video for reading charts but baby steps. I checked out the other video you had too and that flew over my head as well. 😣😜
It is absolutely mind-blowing and thank you so much! I only have one question though. You said here and in another video you have to read the chart from left to right if the number is on the left, so on the wrong side. In this video in the beginning of the first row the number is on the left but you started pointing from right to left on the chart. Is it something am I missing or misunderstood? x
I know it's been months, but in case anyone else had this question, the chart she's using is symmetrical, at least on the wrong side rows. So reading the ws rows left to right or right to left doesn't matter in this case since it's the same each way.
I love this too. I also am pushing myself, really challenging myself with this ITAG kal. I am learning alot. My question is this, do i read the pattern left to right, right to left, both? You said read laft to right , but read right to left. I dont want to miss anything. Thanks

I wonder, could you just work all legs of the cable from the one strand of wool and just carry the yarn across the back as with Fair Isle? If you did just work across with the same strand, depending on how many cables you are working, it could constrain the fabric. It would lose its stretch. Try it on a swatch and see what you think,

Hi Suzanne, thank you so much for this video. I would like to use your technique to add some interest to a cabled coat pattern that I’m about to start, but the pattern uses a 3-over-3 cable design rather than 2-over-2. Should I still cast on just one stitch per leg, and make triple increases in my setup row where you make pfb in the video?
I would try on a swatch first - cast on ½ of the required stitches for the cable legs. Then increase in the legs, 2 increases in one leg and one in the other. The one with two would be the one to the front. But try it on a swatch to make sure you are happy with it first.

The design is beautiful, but where or how do you know when to add the color. I think if the chart and legend were highlighted with a color it would make it easier to know. The if symbol doesn’t indicate a Color to use.
One easy way to identify which stitches are the cable stitches is to look for the knits (RS). The cable will be the knit stitches. the background will be the purls. Hope this helps.
Suzanne, this is a great video. Thanks. I am a new knitter, but have trouble with reading charts wherein they indicate to cast on, for example, ten stitches plus five. A chart will show how to knit within a colored area. What happens outside that colored area. Does it round-out the pattern?
@@SuzanneBryanSuzanne, if you took the pattern you use for the Intarsia Cables, and colored the block, then expand the chart outside the colored block, with additional stitches (this would give you ten stitches, plus x amount of stitches outside the colored block. Some written patterns don't give you a visual chart, but just written. I just don't understand. I am sorry, but this is the only way I can explain it. Cast on ten plus x amount of stitches.
@@leelav2290 This is just a single cable. Are you talking about making a wider design by repeating the cable across the fabric? If so, this is not one of those types of cables. What you will need is an "allover" type of cable pattern. Do you have any cable pattern books? I only have one question though. You said here and in another video you have to read the chart from left to right if the number is on the left, so on the wrong side. In this video in the beginning of the first row the number is on the left but you started pointing from right to left on the chart.
Is it something am I missing or misunderstood? x
I know it's been months, but in case anyone else had this question, the chart she's using is symmetrical, at least on the wrong side rows. So reading the ws rows left to right or right to left doesn't matter in this case since it's the same each way.

I love this too. I also am pushing myself, really challenging myself with this ITAG kal. I am learning alot. My question is this, do i read the pattern left to right, right to left, both? You said read laft to right , but read right to left. I dont want to miss anything. Thanks

Awesome Suzanne. can you talk about color dominance, please? Also in slip stitch work is it normal for your floats to be shorter on the wrong side of fabric when you are slipping stitches on both r and w sides of the work? Thanks for your awesome sharing of your time with us.

Thanks Suzanne, I love all your videos and this was great….something I haven’t done before. I wonder, could you just work all legs of the cable from the one strand of wool and just carry the yarn across the back as with Fair Isle? I’m trying to work it out in my head but should of course give it a go. I figure you’ll have an answer as to why or why not though ;). Thanks in advance.
If you did just work across with the same strand, depending on how many cables you are working, it could constrain the fabric. It would lose its stretch. Try it on a swatch and see what you think,

Hi Suzanne, thank you so much for this video. I would like to use your technique to add some interest to a cabled coat pattern that I’m about to start, but the pattern uses a 3-over-3 cable design rather than 2-over-2. Should I still cast on just one stitch per leg, and make triple increases in my setup row where you make pfb in the video?
I would try on a swatch first - cast on ½ of the required stitches for the cable legs. Then increase in the legs, 2 increases in one leg and one in the other. The one with two would be the one to the front. But try it on a swatch to make sure you are happy with it first.

If you want to incorporate completely reversible cables, you would need to use straight forward intarsia.

Hi Suzanne ,Earlier I asked for help with the The Matilda Round -Neck sweater. in the book of Lovely KNITS FOR LITTLE GIRLS Because I learn knitting by looking from a Romanian lady she doe not speak English and I don't speak Romain so all I did is watch how she knit lately I started to read knitting book and I'm not quite sure if the pattern I mention if it was a top down or down up .Thanks.

The design is beautiful, but where or how do you know when to add the color. I think if the chart and legend were highlighted with a color it would make it easier to know. The if symbol doesn’t indicate a Color to use.
One easy way to identify which stitches are the cable stitches is to look for the knits (RS). The cable will be the knit stitches. the background will be the purls. Hope this helps.

Suzanne, this is a great video. Thanks. I am a new knitter, but have trouble with reading charts wherein they indicate to cast on, for example, ten stitches plus five. A chart will show how to knit within a colored area. What happens outside that colored area. Does it round-out the pattern?
I am not sure what you are asking. Can you reword it? Or give more information?
@@SuzanneBryanSuzanne, if you took the pattern you use for the Intarsia Cables, and colored the block, then expand the chart outside the colored block, with additional stitches (this would give you ten stitches, plus x amount of stitches outside the colored block. Some written patterns don't give you a visual chart, but just written. I just don't understand. I am sorry, but this is the only way I can explain it. Cast on ten plus x amount of stitches.
@@leelav2290 This is just a single cable. Are you talking about making a wider design by repeating the cable across the fabric? If so, this is not one of those types of cables. What you will need is an "allover" type of cable pattern. Do you have any cable pattern books?
