    I have found that ditching my dry bags saves quite a lot of weight. I just use a very large sac liner, plus one more for down gear. Just out of interest, weigh all your dry bags. I think you will be surprised 👍😁

      Good point. I do have one large liner and you are right it would save weight. However, I do quite like the smaller bags from an organisational point of view. For example if it is chucking it down/windy and i am getting cold, I can quickly access my warm top from that bag, without having to risk opening one big bag and getting other stuff wet.

    One thing I didn't see was the kit you use for filming. I suspect you use a GoPro but it would also be very helpful to someone like me, to see how you film with the GoPro, and then how you edit on the move. I use a mobile phone with editing software, but I suspect you have to transfer your files from an SD card and then edit. How many batteries doe you need on the Gopro? What do you do re charging? I think this would make a great video on its own.
    Regards,
    David

      Thanks Phil. Its kit built up over a lot of years. If its good I keep it till it stops working or falls apart.

    I'm interested to know how you plan to navigate. The CW is not very good at all for way marking, and, given the time of year, many of the paths will be very overgrown with bracken and can be a real pain. Having said that, it's a great trail and harder than the Cape Wrath trail. I'm sure you will have a great trip. Enjoy 👍😁

      Relying on OS maps on my phone which I've downloaded to work offline and the 1;40000 harvey map in the guidebook. If the phone is working...all is good. 1:40000 scale is not ideal as some features are missing, but I am used to using this scale for mountain marathons. Actually, as i am writing this I am going to print off some of the remote sections as back up on 1;25000 as i did on the Scottish National Trail.

      @@huntonthetrails I think 1:25,000 is the way to go on this trail. Have a fantastic time, looking forward to the films 👍

    How about a satellite communicator in case you're in an area with no wi-fi or cell phone coverage? That way if, God forbid, you have an accident you can still summon help or even an emergency evacuation.

      Yes, saves a lot of worry about too much sun exposure. I'm wearing it now as I start the trail today...and its red hot !

    No map! 😮 I always print and laminate a map from os maps. Really compact, it's just a no brainer. Your phone can and will fail, if it fails when you need it, your stuffed.

    • @huntonthetrails
      @huntonthetrails  3 месяца назад +1

      There is a 1:40000 harveys map in the guidebook that should be fine if the phone fails. Although 1:25000 is preferable as you get more detail such as wall boundaries, there will be enough there for me navigate by. When I do the mountain marathons we use 1:40000 so I am used to working with that scale and level of detail.

      @@huntonthetrails ah, that makes sense. As long as you've got some kind of map. I've woken up on a hilltop in thick fog and phone GPS was all over the place, walked round in a circle for an hour! Got the compass out and followed a bearing and I was on the path in ten minutes!
