    So recently I had the Mk2 back on a rolling road as a few adjustments have been made since its first power run such as....
    - NGK single tip Spark Plugs
    - Stock ECU Crystal fitted
    - Adjusted Cam Timing
    - Adjusted Ignition Timing
    - Modified the Stock Air Box
    - Replaced the Piper Panel Filter with a Jetex One
    *full engine spec*
    - Overbored to 83 mm
    - JE forged pistons
    - 10.54: 1 compression ratio
    - Stock crank
    - Balanced stock rods (with arp bolts)
    - Cometc headgasket to ensure correct piston squish
    - RCE ported cylinder head
    - Stock ABF cams
    - Port matched inlet manifold
    - Ported throttle body
    - ABF LHD Tubular Exhaust Manifold
    - Custom downpipe
    - 2.25" trackslag exhaust system
    - Modified air box with jetex filter
    - Modified crank case breather
    - Cams adjusted
    - Ignition timing advance adjusted
    - WUR modification
    - K-jetronic system adjusted
    - Modified Porsche Air metering unit
    - Side gapped spark plugs
    - CO % adjusted
    Safe to say the results speak for themselves, over 180bhp, 188.6 to be precise for a 1.9ltr with ABF cams and stock fuelling is fantastic.
    That's also 202bhp per ton!!!
    How does it drive, perfectly, normal OEM idle and driving then a beautiful power curve right up to the 7200rpm limiter, above 5000rpm it really comes alive and sounds epic.

    Awesome. Sounds mint! Looking to get some power out of my KR. I need a gearbox rebuild so I'm strongly considering putting in a lightened flywheel, can you recommend a good one? Could I also ask, is it worth modifying the airbox and how do you recommend doing this, cut wingside/drilled?!

    • @GreyGooseRestorations
      @GreyGooseRestorations  Год назад +1

      Thanks
      Mine still runs stock flywheel, didn't want to lose the OEM feel to how the engine revs
      Definitely recommend doing the air box mod, i have cut out most of the left hand side of the air box (between the wing and air box) and removed the plastic cover thats on the wing too and using a jetex panel filter

    Jeee this is awesome!!
    Watched all of your kjet videos, makes me hope that there is still some potential in mine!
    What would you say would be the path to go for a mildly tuned 8v engine? I got a mk1 gti with dx 8v engine, which is most likely going for a rebuild this winter as we managed to toss it up a bit whilst sandblasting and painting (don't do that lol)
    So far I bought some 276 Schrick cam, full porsche 924 injection system and intake, 16v throttle valve, kn filter, 4-2-1 mani and Jetex (simons) 50mm exhaust.
    Was planning an overbore for the block and some port polish work for the head... Are bigger valves needed? Anything particular you would recommend doing to the engine to spice it up whilst keepin +- oem??
    Thanks and keep up the amazing work

    • @GreyGooseRestorations
      @GreyGooseRestorations  9 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks
      An overbore to 1.9 would really give it some more but mostly the porting on the head is where the power will be made.
      If you overbore don't use off the shelf pistons as they end up with incorrect comp ratio (to high) which then stops you being able to run anything close to stock ignition timing

      @@GreyGooseRestorations awesome! Are bigger valves needed too? This wont be a race car just want it to pull nice to hold up with the badge it's carrying (will be hard since daily is a golf R, but...)

  • @colevincent8563

    This work is so inspirational and just goes to show that one can make 135 kW on kjet just by working on and maximising the performance of all the separate engine components. My burning question is why have you not decided to go with the ABF manifold and EFI? Do you think given all the kjet mods you have done that losing these mods to efi would mean you would likely not see a higher power output on abf manifold?

    • @colevincent8563
      @colevincent8563 Год назад +1

      Also, how have you achieved 10 deg BTDC when valve ping or bearing wobble would surely creep in? Is it the combination of higher lift cams (ABF vs KR) and more fuel from the WUR modification that has actually necessitated an earlier spark to adequately ignite the larger quantity of fuel in the combustion chamber?i.e. the bang still happens just after TDC but is a bigger bang.

    • @GreyGooseRestorations
      @GreyGooseRestorations  Год назад +2

      Thanks, i wanted to retain the originality of the car / show that K-jetronic is more than suitable / capable to produce this level of power

    • @GreyGooseRestorations
      @GreyGooseRestorations  Год назад +1

      By adjusting the ignition timing, every engine is different as to what it can take before pre detonation happens.

    • @colevincent8563
      @colevincent8563 Год назад +1

      I am not sure I could achieve > 8 deg ignition timing here in South Africa during our summer time, as this is when I have noticed valve ping. However, my engine health needs some attention. Have also put in ABF cams which are still far shy of 268 duration cams that some of my pals have recommended for this engine.
      Would you mind sharing the NGK spark plug model number and are you going to do a vid on your modification of the air inbox intake?

    • @colevincent8563
      @colevincent8563 Год назад +1

      Finally, you mentioned cam timing, so assuming you are just referring to the ABF cams? Did I hear correctly that you have installed an ABF outlet manifold to a trackslag exhaust system?

    Hi mate, great video of your car being rolling road tuned. Not sure if I mentioned it last time I messaged you, my car was fitted with the K-Star brain and 5th injector and tuned by AmD near Oxford back in the 90's, never forget the long drive home, the car was epic! Any idea whether any tuners are still able to tune K- Star equipped KR's? Keep up the good work, your latest video has reignited my desire to crack on with my resto.....only had the car 32 years...you'd think I'd be fed up of it....not a chance! Lol

    • @GreyGooseRestorations
      @GreyGooseRestorations  Год назад

      Can never get bored 😉 k-star is pretty much dead as the only person to have the software told me the laptop is was on is dead, tho todays piggybacks are cheap and reliable. Does yours still work?

    • @darrenknight3415
      @darrenknight3415 Год назад +1

      It did right up until I took the car off the road, it was pushing 166bhp on AmD's rolling road and I took it to a club rolling road meet a few months later and the guy commented it pulled like a train. Any recommendations on what I should replace the K- Star with? I'm keeping the KR standard unless something reveals itself on stripdown which changes things. I have the AmD maps somewhere which will be good as a benchmark to see if I can improve the engines performance. 👍

    • @GreyGooseRestorations
      @GreyGooseRestorations  Год назад

      To be honest theres no need for it, it was only brought in as UK didn't have high octane fuel so it was actually to retard the ignition

    • @darrenknight3415
      @darrenknight3415 Год назад +1

      Ah, that makes things a bit simpler, my valver used to 'pink' under certain loads and the K-Star/rolling road tune stopped that entirely. I'll try and reverse engineer the fitment but I'm now thinking I may have to obtain another ecu as the original is connected/software modified to the K-Star. Sorry to pick your brains on this....🙈

    • @GreyGooseRestorations
      @GreyGooseRestorations  Год назад

      Its just a piggy back, so if its just the early timing ones under the scuttle panel left hand side where the ecu it, the ignition control module is mounted ontop of the ecu cage, it will be plugged into that.
      Unplug the connection on the ICM, and unplug the k-star from main factory loom.
      Then plug the factory plug back onto the ICM
      Itll make sense when you look at it, I'd then check and adjust your ignition timing, should be 6deg BTDC
