well for mater, doc, the sheriff, Fillmore and sarge I think they use a system of animatronic parts and rubber for the mouth that moves incredibly intricately. for Luigi, sally and McQueen they use projections for the mouths. Ramone and Flo are simply just animations on a screen. the eyes are also all projections! absolutely amazing craftsmanship.
Did this ride last weekend and it was fun, the concept was great, the animatronics were stunning and the racing section was amazing, Cars is still one of my favorite movies and the fact this ride still gets as many people even to this day despite being over 10 years old is surprising
The only actor who couldn’t return to voice his character was Paul Newman (Doc Hudson) because in 2008 he passed away. So on the ride, you’re hearing Corey Burton as Doc instead. But the rest of the cast returned, which means you’re hearing Larry The Cable Guy as Mater and Owen Wilson as Lightning McQueen (even if Wilson has a voice double for McQueen in the form of Keith Ferguson, it’s actually Owen Wilson’s voice you hear on the ride)
I paid for Lightning Lane for this ride before, it was during a heat wave where rides kept breaking down. The wait was almost an hour in the paid lane while people had to wait over 3+ hours in the regular line up where staff had to close that lineup.
Aw, I know how you feel. In fact, I also wish that Fillmore, Ramone, Sheriff, Flo, Lizzie and Sarge would be there, too. Cars Land won't be complete without them.
You can keep wearing your tight headwear and your sunglasses from not getting loose in this ride going outdoors when vehicle moves fast over the hills!

While his mouth and driving movements are still there, a lot of the other smaller movements that make these animatronics move like the films are gone. Watch a POV of this attraction in 2012 and compare to now, many of Sherif’s movements are turned off, which is a shame.

I'm stunned by the quality of the animatronics, they look like REAL life versions of the characters! Almost spooky.
