  • Ran into a common issue with older used power wheelchairs, hubs stuck on axles. This one was a challenge. Here are the realities.

    That is the power of cold welding. BTW, it happens when two pieces of simular metal that are clean touch one another in a vacuum. Instant weld. This is what a time size is designed to prevent.

    next time take an angle grinder with a very thin semi flexible disc on it and cut the hub over the length of the shaft. 5 minutes and it is done. maybe 15 minutes if you have any trouble with the puller after cutting

      I think you're right. I have another motor with the same problem and I'm thinking about doing a followup video using that method. I have the grinder and the discs, I was worried about damaging the shaft so I didn't use the grinder. Since my way was no better at preserving the shaft I might as well try the grinder.

    Do you have any information on the technical details of the motors you use? Whats the rpm and gear ratio?

    When I tried changing the front inflatable casters I put WD40 on the nuts & let
    It set overnight.

    Use Map gas instead of propane .. It's hotter...

      I should have mentioned you have to go 360 degrees around the whole hub to get it to expand.... You going about it the right way but only heating it on one side...
