Message: (NOTE: This is the definitive cover of one of the greatest rock songs of all time. What is truly amazing is that this was performed live in front of the surviving Led Zeppelin band members as well as the US President and first lady and other VIPs. Ann Wilson's vocals are incredible and the crowd and band are clearly awed. Also interesting is that the drummer in this performance is Jason Bonham who is the son of the late Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham. This was a surprise to the band watching the performance and made it even more touching.)

Anne Wilson said in an interview that the whole ensemble only had a 1 or 1 1/2 hour rehearsal together right before the performance. This wasn’t a performance, it was an event. You really need to check out Heart.
Anne was 62 at the time of this performance, and she went in with no idea that the band had specifically chosen Heart for this song. She thought it would be one of Heart's staple Zeppelin covers. They put this magnificence together with two 30 minute rehearsals.

No matter how many times I hear this, it still leaves me awestruck.
Don't know if this was mentioned, but Ann Wilson was 62 years old at the time of this tribute, AND she was fighting the flu. What a set of pipes!
The drummer, Jason Bonham, is the son of the late John Bonham, the band's drummer. Check out the benefit concert video they did together in 2007 called Celebration Day.

This is the singer for the band Heart, definitely check out their hits from the 70’s. Ann and Nancy Wilson are amazing song writers and their band Heart was very influential
You need to dive into spme of HEART'S songs..."Barracuda","Magic Man", "Crazy On You" to start..They have alot of great songs..They have been called "Little Led Zep" from when they started out in the early 70's they covered alot of Zeppelin's songs...And yes many of them are up here on RUclips...

Ann, now in her early 70s, just did a duet with David Draiman on Disturbed's album, "Divisive." I believe it is the first time they have ever invited anyone outside the band to sing on an album. Her voice is different now than it was in this performance, huskier, but maybe even warmer. It ages like fine wine! You should check out some of the stuff from early in their career to hear her voice at its greatest range. It doesn't matter that she doesn't sound like she did in her 20s, but you have to appreciate her voice in every decade as it changes. She is simply stunning. Go for "Barracuda," or "Alone" for some of the big belting notes, but there are so many hits!
Fil, damn right, Ann's voice is powerful, warm and (yes) caressing. This performance, as you see by the faces of the remaining members of Led Zeppelin, was a worthy tribute. Jason Bonham (son of John Bonham RIP - Led's drummer) is the drummer on this.

Heart has been a power house in the music industry themselves, they were formed in 1973 iirc, I remember them mostly from the mid 80s to early 90s where they had some major hits.

Years ago an album was released called The money or the gun, stairways to heaven. It was 26 different versions of the song.
No matter how many times I hear this, I still get teary. And then to watch the Legends that are Paige, Plant, and JPJ take in this beautiful performance is just chef's kiss! I had the privilege of seeing Paige and Plant live touring with Jason Bonham when I was in college. I was awestruck. How fortunate I was. Zeppelin was my first love before TOP. Every track, every album. ❤ Thank you for adding this in. And thanks, Fil, for your eclectic approach to sharing music with us. Lovin it!
The story goes, Jason was invited by the band to come see the performance, and he told them that he had other obligations. So, when Jason’s name was announced, it was a huge surprise to the band members because the previous obligation that he had was to perform in this tribute.
She muffs they lyrics on "the pipers calling you to join him" and I've never seen anyone mention it. It sounds like she was about to jump ahead to "your stairway lies..." but caught herself in time to get half the line right. But she clearly didn't sing "The piper". This is such a great performance overall that I guess people don't notice it, but to me it's extremely obvious.
