I feel that the ones with the loose cable makes more sense to get unless it fits on a standard crochet needle, the cables aren't too expensive and you can get just the needle size you need, they are small and not bulky but work for larger projects aswell even with just one strand of yarn.
There's even a workaround to crochet in the round with just one needle, just switch the needle back and forth on the cable, you can't do that with the cheap sets that have stoppers and then you have to spend more money anyway. Plus since it's more of a small hobby the cheap set might be hard to get rid off if you don't want them anymore since beginners often just wants to get a new unused set when it's not too expensive and more experienced people want a more premium set.
The cables also work for knitting ofc and most knitters today go for the ones with loose cables, so they just need to get the crochet needle. It would also be easy to sell or give away the cable to a knitter if you don't want to keep it.

I very much appreciate this video. I have avoided trying Tunisian because of the weight on the needle.
Two days ago I saw a circular one by pony and now really want to try it.

Have you ever worked with three double ended hooks at the same time like in knitting? I came across some patterns in annies attic book by Donna Jones who has patterns of crochet in the round with 3 double ended hooks and I just don’t get it. Have you worked this way and/or do you have some tips? It is after all tunisian crochet 😊

    Hi
What are the silver pins and what I guess is a key used for in the kits. Thank you for the help.

Hi Rhoda, they are used to tighten the hooks to the cables once they are attached, so that they are secured and do not come apart too easily.

I got some different from all of these, they have a hook on one end and a needle point on the other - no cable or stopper on the end. I'm trying to find tutorials for them

What hook would you use to make a queen size blanket?

    • @HookloopsarahCrochet

A big one! Ok, jokes aside, I would use a cabled one, because it usually is longer than a straight long one, and also easier to handle. :)

I thought the point of the flxible cables was to be able to work in the round.

The flexible cable can be used to work in the round, though it's a little bit uncomfortable: you need a set of 2 hook in same size that can be joined with a cable (for example Knit Pro ones), but the movements would take more than with a short or long straight hook. I sometimes need cabled hooks when I have to collect a large amount of loops on the hook, for example for a cardigan or a blanket. :)
