Yo girl, kudos for mentioning the allergy! So many people straight up don't talk about it and it really isn't fun to find out you're allergic to it once it's too late.
When you were going over the cons of using it I found myself nodding to everything you said I think we've all experienced the cons. I still remember removing all the small hairs from the side of my face after working a full day at Denver comic con. Or when I did the talons for the witch from left for dead I was in such a hurry that I dipped them in black liquid latex and had to spend the whole photo shoot trying to not touch them together.
I love liquid latex. I just started with doing special effects makeup and I already made a bald cap a nose and several elfish ears out of it :) I also have nothing much against the smell, for I also like the smell of gasoline haha I'm weird. I hope I'll soon be able to experiment with many more materials :)
I am allergic to it, but I still use it. I know, bad me. I know Ben Nye makes some that is just for sensitive skin that has a low ammonia count. I haven't tried it yet to see just how well it works, but I am going to try and pick some up soon.
Thanks for that intersting and really helpful video! But I've got a question! I ordered some liquid latex, it came today and the bottle says "This is not a cosmetic product". Soooooo...Should I avoid using this latex? I'm not quite sure and I better wait before I do anything stupid.
I know I’m late to the party, however what product do you like to use for fake skin? I’m doing a Leatherface mask and wanted to venture away from liquid latex. Any suggestions would be amaze. Btw you amazing.
Do you happen to know it it's safe to bring a travel size of liquid latex in checked luggage on an airplane? I need to bring that and spirit gum with me to a convention across the country, but haven't been able to find much info from anywhere.
LOL that photo at the end got me laughing so hard ;) But i am using always runny latex but i see that some people have thick latex (i am talking about liquid) but what's the difference? And i always use it to blend some prosthetics in to the skin because it's cheap (i have an 5 liter can @ home)
dynamic bart It's just different properties for different applications. For out of the kit makeup liquid latex is usually a nice thickness. If it's super runny it will just build up layers more slowly, and if it's super thick it can be lumpy. I actually have some thickened brush latex here which is too much, and balloon rubber latex which is too thin, so I was mixing them together when I used them the other day to get a better consistency for a smoother build up.
Freakmo thank you and I see people using cotton of course too but every time i use it it gets those strings and weird looking texture so not really an fan of latex with cotton any experience with using cotton and latex with the same problems?
dynamic bart I've used cotton pads that had ridges in them for the purpose of that looking a bit like muscle texture :P I soaked them and applied them to my face cast and waiting a few days for it to apply. I've not tried using it straight on my skin as I imagine the thickness would be a bit harder to fully dry, an harder to smooth out on the edges.
Freakmo i dont know if to start doing videos beacuse im only 13 years old and i love doing sfx makeup and you have been a inspiration to me so thank you for reply to my comment do you have any tips on starting a youtube channel x
I bought some liquid latex from party city. It came in a tube, and it's not as liquidy as i expected. It's kinda clumpy and i cant seem to get it to make clean strokes for scars. I'm wondering if anyone knows if there is anything i can do to make it more liquidy cuz i begged my mom to let me buy it so i dont want her to yell at me if i tell her it's not working, complaining that i didnt listen (she was concerend about the allergies but still).
Whoaaaaaa! I appreciate this video and your efforts but my goodness it was difficult to understand you as your speech is very rapid. May I suggest slowing it down just a pinch? That may be more appealing to more than just me as a viewer. Thanks again. Take care. :)

What brand of liquid latex do you think is best for beginners?
Ben Nye is the one that the famous people use and it’s really good but you should just get the one at the Halloween storm

I want to start doing special effects makeup but have an deadly latex allergy. What's the best stand in for it?
nose and scar wax, the ben nye one. there’s also a substitute called ‘3rd degree’, it’s silicone but i don’t know if it has latex it.

Hi I'm using liquid latex on my mouth. Is there any way I can make it smell better? Like could I add essential oils or perfume?
