- Three years ago, Sam Bankman Fried has launched a smear campaign against Internet Computer. This smear campaign included a pump and dump that spiraled the price of ICP out of control and caused many investors to lose a fortune. Three years later, the damage is done, but the branding of ICP hasn't been repaired. In this episode, I share with you the perspective of an outsider to the community and ask for constructive suggestions to solve this issue. As always, I hope you enjoy!

ICP dosnt need to rebrand. If Solana came back from their FTX crash, so can Internet Computer. Solanas crash was kind of deserved. Internet Computers crash wasn't deserved. Because it manipulated in a malicious way because a few millionaires and a billionaire was scared of it threatening their special interest in their own investments. Their smear tactics is similar to the smear tactics used in politics. Soon as the public starts to realize it more and understand, then there will be a switch where you will see more people coming in. That may take time but it will happen.
Solana has the same gangsters behind as FTX .. block one, bitfinex.. tether… cryptocabal

I've never liked the brand "internet computer"; my as well just create a cryptocurrency and call it "cryptocurrency". I mean, WTF? Dominic came up with "Dfinity", but got lazy AF when naming the crypto. 👏The brand name isn't the biggest problem, but I still wish they didn't use such a generic brand. I think a 5 year old could come up with a better brand than "Internet Computer". And no, I don't think "World Computer" would have been better, either.

Let them think it's a scam coin. So we can keep DCA'ing at cheap prices. ICP is ahead of every crypto right now. At some point when big companies switch over to ICP and whale money enters people will have to accept ICP as a legit project. BTC was also considered a scam by a big majority untill recently. (Still is for a minority). I see it as an opportunity.

I think he’s right about the tarnished reputation but I don’t think rebranding is required. A combination of time and education and continuing to grow the ecosystem will lead to an undeniable platform in my opinion.
all the more so as the person whose reputation is now permanently tarnished is SBF himself, and anything that may have come out of his mouth, true or false, is now questionable.
Nothing has changed with ICP, they didn't do the damage. This is not new management rebranding something they didn't do. When an innocent man is wrongly convicted and later discovered he was innocent and released. Does he change his name?
@@thorazine0076 no but his reputation would still tarnished, which is why that hypothetical person would probably sue for defamation once his innocence is proven (at least in the US). With consistently good character someone can transcend a falsely tarnished reputation, which is the point I was trying to make with ICP

I started buying ICP just cuz the name was funny.... then I started researching it, and I liked it even more. The name is why I bought it!! LOL. I am crazy I guess.
Its that old saying, trust is easy to break but hard to build. Even though that breakage of trust was unjustified, we must carry on building up the trust piece by piece.

I think dfinity is taking the correct approach tackling this issue with the ck integrations, eventually we will have all blockchains integrated expanding the use cases of those integrated blockchains, creating value albeit slowly. But ultimately, we need institutional or government adoption a real word example of how the IC is helping reduce IT cost/complexities to bring in the big institutional money.
Exactly no need to change the name at all. ICP is a diamond. It currently looks like it’s going through the diamond making stages. Extreme heat, extreme pressure, cleaning, sorting, cutting, and polishing and then selling. It takes time for a diamond to be made from beginning to end same as it takes for a ugly ducking yo become a swan. The stages and processes are a must

A streaming platform and a web browser need to be implemented on icp
I get the streaming platform but why a browser?

@@cxc native browser may better optimise and support ICP dapps that can be added as extensions. While a dapp that is Chrome compatible as an extension is nice for transition, having one native to the protocol could provide better performance, analytics, and onchain stats

I have also heard same things. Many people got burned on ICP when SBF did his pump+dump. A name change may help but it would also take some time to build recognition. I guess that is a decision for Dfinity.
What SBF do was too bad, but sometimes bad things turn to be good in a complex way, like that's become the reason many regular people get to buy and invest in ICP at an affordable price now.
To me it doesn't need any rebranding and the organic growth the block chain is having now is enough to make it stronger 💪🏿💪🏿 in the future

Also to me the way it's growing gradually will make it more for the PUBLIC since many and the smart money are not in yet as they can monopolise it earlier but the action of SBF scare many of them away unknowingly.

its good to repair it for what it is - changing names and rebranding will not yield anything. keeping the name and work on it will make people see what ICP truly is. Re-branding won't help on anything.
ICP is ultimately a multi-signature with only 13 nodes (except for individual subnets).
The security is not enough to withstand large transactions. Controlling 5 nodes can hijack the entire subnet, and thus pollute the entire mainnet.

I think a simple switch to rebranding into itself; “Dfinity” instead of “Internet computer & “ICP”; it just makes sense. Ticker symbol: DINITY. It sounds already very revolutionary. There’d be to me, nothing else or worthy to change to.
Maybe a rebrand to a different name but keep the logo.

What he said is true, but his ideal solution idea is just the way the "WEAK" approach challenges.
ICP will go down well in history for surviving all the (alleged) attacks from FTX and SBF. It will come clean, eventually.

ICP has a bad culture of not calling poop, poop. There's a lot of nepotism, to many projects that are simply clones of existing apps - but rather than say that, its hyped up. If ICP champions change, uniqueness, and novelty then it will stand out. It's easy to see the history, and then see whats being built and not see the true value because of that. Solana recovered because people are building things like the Star Atlas game, and they literally opened up a retail shop in Hudson yards NYC for marketing and further NFT distribution. Meanwhile, on ICP... they are hyping projects that aren't any different from what already exists. I want ICP to succeed because the tech is really good, but I think at this point no chain will rule them all, and builders will have to be multichain instead of expecting everything from one brand.

The fruits of the networks labor will speak for itself once the ignorant bamboozled have their "ICP awakening". Often times when there are huge breakthroughs, at first people are blind and call all types of absurdities. Dfinity and ICP community are one of the most resilient and perseverant groups of people I know. Been following Dfnity since 2018. Seen the ups and downs. Seen the arguments to change the branding, change voting structure, change marketing etc. to escape the abysmal trap of doubt and doom. IMO at this point it is null to change any of the 'externals'. The effort for the takedown never succeeded. ICP is better than ever. It is the 'internals' that define the true worth of something. For them to have reached this point in development is a testament that they have beat the odds and ICP is in its own league. The inflection point will happen where people will be caught eating their own ignorance. Only two options here. 1 we die or 2 we rise to parabolic highs.

Icp took meta to court over the symbol so a rebrand is not necessary. The brand and icon is precious. I see btc migrating to icp (and other blockchains) and other big events. We are early to icp like at btc in 2010 and should just chill and buy more and the recent dip.❤ is a gift. I want to get to 1k icp and be a whale in 8-10 years. Remember the project is already what 3-4 years old so in comparison this is 2013 on btc.

Rebranding. The name sounds old and outdated
Now let‘s see it as it is: Crypto Reddit is full of retail and they sure talk a lot about what CEO‘s of major operations should do to „save themselves“. It is all humbug. First, those redditors likely never used ICP to begin with, that said, how could they say a rebrand would help the network more, would they THEN use it and the dapps on it? Makes no sense. Big money is indeed eyeing ICP, they dont care about some major manipulated pump, they care about the tech and we as devs and users showcase it to them. Davos, Emirates, Asia, everywhere Dominic and ICP was seen. There is no need for a rebrand, maybe a public invitation to the network, but even more importantly, a substantial will to check out ICP‘s capabilities before talking about some rebrand. It seems so childish demanding a total restart imo.

ICP's branding is fine, the problem with crytpo is it is full of people who have never invested before who thinks game changing technology repays overnight. ICP is quality its time will come. As for me I have conviciton over the tech and I am pouring in every penny.

I like the name and project as it is, i think we should do more marketing for the project,maybe there are more people like me who are willing to do it for free and only need dfinity's information on what we say and how we do it
Let the tech and devs speak for themselves. SBF and syndicate will win if ICP rebrands. I suspect countries testing and building on ICP wont give two forks about previous perception, just network output and capabilities. The scam narrative is only absorbed and fermented by the niche setting retail community.
Question it’s been 3 days since I’ve gotten any staking rewards I’ve just added a lot of icp so I’m thinking it’s probably that the network has posted that it’s been 3 years so I just want to see if it’s just me or if there’s a update that is causing this

You'll get the rewards. If no voting proposals are finalized, you don't get rewards on that day but they roll over. The rewards are there but not "there"
Burning the name and rebranding it won’t change anything in my opinion, because the research team and the founder will still be dfinity and Dominic Williams respectively. To me, we just have to evangelize more, get people to understand the technical superiority of icp to other blockchains because not many people knows how far ahead the ICP blockchain is compared to other blockchains. And I believe when we do this, we’ll gain adoption massively.
I’m all in on icp no matter what happens, I staked a few thousand dollars worth of ICP, that’s my life saving. If ICP goes to zero then I’m going down with it, and I’ll have no regrets. I’ll be proud I made the right choice but was let down by the fraudulent people at the helm of the crypto market.
ICP has issues, but the branding is not one. Bitcoin was labeled a scam for a decade by the most powerful governments, and it overcame the FUD. Rebranding does not make the tech any better, and there is no guarantee that ICP won't be manipulated again. It simply needs to fight and overcome.
