      NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!!! They’re perfect creators with the way they do things already if they do a regularly scheduled podcast it’s gonna ruin it! They’re precious and actually genuine if they join the podcast gold rush that’s happening I’m afraid they may get swept away with the tide then give up on making videos forever bc they’re podcast went sideways for some reason. All it takes is one smart ass with a following to say oh y’all think they’re great well they’re weren’t great to me blahblahdfmfjrirhrjr to screw it up for all of us!!!!

    I 100% knew what Nate and Kara were going to say at 34.16 min in about almost being cancelled over asking for payment for early access to the documentary. When they originally posted the doc I paid for it. It made complete and total sense that they should be compensated for all that hard work... and it broke my heart that Kara was so upset over the backlash. Bottom line- people can be horrible and people can be wonderful. But Kara and Nate have a loyal fanbase who are rooting for them... I'm one of them!

      i also knew to when the doc was going to come out i was in high school and didnt have acess to my own money at the time so i had to ask my aprents and exlpain to them this. I think there mistake was they the said the 100th country wll be in documentary not get its on video. so you had to watch the documentary to find the 100th country which they let us deicde. now I definety would have paid for the doc. and they blacklash they got was wareented and some of unwarranted.

      As a youtube premium user i feel like i pay for the content i watch on youtube. In a way yes youtubers live out of my money and many others who watch them. Editing a video is a part of their job for which i pay for …and they get to travel or whatever. If I am not willing to pay more for a video is within my right and taking this personal is just… soo… american. Sorry 🙈

      I think everybody was so excited for the 100th country especially people that had been watching for years. People couldn't wait to see it and celebrate with them. When they decide to change the format right there without communicating with everyone and basically very little explanation it was a big downer for everyone that had been so excited. It really caught everyone by surprise. It was more on their side for not explaining anything.. Like Nate said it was lack of communication. Everyone loved them and would have supported them had they communicated it better. I'll admit I was surprised at first, but I still loved them, supported them and kept watching. I'm sorry it was such a hard time for them. It was a big lesson in communication with their audience. I think most people stayed with them and continued to support them.

    My wife and I have been watching Kara and Nate for years, which is why we clicked on this video, but can I say as a first-time viewer that you guys did an amazing job at interviewing. You asked great questions, you let them speak without interrupting or talking over them, but also added your own insight when appropriate which allowed for natural segues to follow-up questions. There are so many bad podcasters and interviewers that talk over or move on to another question without letting the person being interviewed finish their point that it's refreshing to see someone do it so well. I'm sure it probably helps that Kara and Nate are comfortable behind the microphone, but kudos to you for allowing the focus to be on the interviewee and not the interviewer.

    Kara- thank you for being vulnerable and opening up about your decision/uncertainty regarding not wanting to have children. Just because for so long there’s been a social narrative that women are supposed to have kids doesn’t mean it’s right for everyone or that every woman wants to. You are a role model in showing that you don’t need to be a parent to be fulfilled and there is nothing wrong or abnormal about that!!

    • @Natalie_Explores
      @Natalie_Explores 9 месяцев назад +22

      @oliviacarriveau I'm also 35 and decided I don't want children. I talked about it with a therapist and everything because it stressed me out so much! My husband is luckily ok with not having them (and my therapist says i need to believe him lol!). I thought I'd want them by now, but the older I get the more I don't want them. But, in the future if I ever decide I want children then I'd rather foster so that I can provide a safe and loving home for someone who needs one, and to be a foster mom! The option to become a mother I believe comes in many forms, so even if I decide to not having any now, the option will always be there. But at this point in time, I'm happy being child free. 😊

    • @lisab2856
      @lisab2856 9 месяцев назад +26

      I agree...thank you Kara! The more people that talk about it being an option, the more normalised it will become to feel it's an option. I'm 55 and my husband and I have been happily married for 30 years. We chose not to have kids because we never felt the urge to and we love travelling, our hobbies and our freedom. Not only have we never regretted it, we just are more and more grateful for the decision as time goes on. We have no debt, both work and just have so many options with what we can do with our lives. We're very happy to be the cool auntie and uncle who are always travelling...love it!

      @@lisab2856thank you for posting this! I am 32 and am pretty sure that I do not want kids, but I feel sometimes like there is something wrong with me. • @lisab2856
      @lisab2856 9 месяцев назад +6

      @@Dojanne My pleasure! Luckily there is so much community and information around the choice to not have children now. I've never personally met anyone who has chosen to not have children who has regretted it, but I've met several women who have had children who were violent towards them, became meth addicts or ripped them off financially to a point where they were never going to be able to retire, who all said they very much regretted having children. Having children is definitely a gamble. Obviously it turns out really well for some people and really badly for others. The Regretful Parent pages on Reddit and Facebook are very interesting as well...A side of the experience that people tend not to be so honest about publicly. Whatever you decide to do, remember that it is your body, your life and your choice...😄Good luck!

      There will always be reasons not to have kids. I would not let the environment prevent you from doing so if you are passionate about it and have the support and resources to do so. The bottom line is we can't predict the future and you don't want to look back and regret your decision once the door is biologically closed. I promise that Gretta isn't going to personally scold you if you have one or two kiddos. Of course, there is always adoption or fostering.
      Considering how much they fly, Kara and Nate aren't exactly the best environmentalists.

    I love hearing Kara talk about the decision to have or not have kids more in depth. I ended up on the other end of the fence, my husband really wanted kids and I could've gone either way, so we decided to try and ended up with the most amazing kid I've ever known. Like she said, I now could not imagine my life without her, but I'm unclear about whether to have another. Ultimately, it's just a choice that you make, you'll probably figure out how to be happy either way and either way is great.
    Obviously there are situations and circumstances that would sway you one way or another, but I mean in the absence of any particular reason to go one way or another.

    Totally agree - everyone doesn’t have to have children. You can do so much for other children in the world if one wants too.

      Exactly! I devoted most of my adult life being the “mom” figure for many people with disabilities that needed that kind of person in their life ; the last one I cared for lived with me for 22 years, he had no family near by, I was it. And glad I was.
      He passed peacefully at 91 on January2- oh I miss him, but wouldn’t have traded any of that time for anything else. We all have our path!

    Love listening to your guys' podcast and was SO excited to see Kara & Nate on - loved this episode!! 💖 I have to say, I especially appreciated Kara opening up about her thoughts and feelings surrounding motherhood, as I too am in the exact same place with the exact same thoughts. It felt refreshing to hear it vocalized when I feel like it's a narrative we don't hear talked about often. Thanks for another great episode! 🥰

    I’m so glad Kara touched on why they don’t have kids yet. Finally someone I can relate to! Me and my husband have been married for almost 3 years and I just do not feel the urge to be a mom yet. Quite honestly, it currently gives me so much anxiety to think of having a kid right now.
    With that being said, I think it’s so important that women not be made to feel like we NEED to have children to feel complete in life. I might have kids one day, but I might not. Thank God me and my husband are also so much on the same page, but people have questioned us for the past 3 years non stop and I just think that’s so inappropriate. I hope the social norm of asking when a couple is going to have children stops soon.

      I think raising kids is HARD and people should absolutely not have them if they don’t want them however having kids did complete me.
      I have 3 degrees, traveled, built a fantastic career, bought a house, and then got married and had kids. While each of those other life elements were fun and hard they were all just living a sort of empty and shallow existence.
      I am so very sad that so many young couples want such an empty existence for their entire lives.

      My husband and I were married for 8 years before we decided to have our son. So we weren’t the norm for waiting and we also only have one child. Luckily the people close to us knew better than to ask, and I really just tried to ignore other people or somewhat nicely let them know what an inappropriate question it is. No doubt the right decision for us to wait.

      most women have to medicalize themselves so we can all pretend that children are a result of, not sex but mere Will. But that children are or should be a result of us wanting them is a mirage made possible by invasive biotechnology. The mirage of Choice marries women’s value to the marketplace, because this is where this particular morality originates and resides. A world without a sexual market, we are to believe, is a world where women have no value. This has been the message of feminisms since its 2nd-wave. If a nation decides to take away this marketplace (the contraceptives and abortions), we’ll be thrown to a Dark Age. The sexual marketplace has made women who participate in it utterly delusional and unreasonable.

      @@lijohnyoutube101 I don’t believe referring to it as an “empty existence” is exactly appropriate. It’s almost the same as people inappropriately asking and assuming everyone wants to adapt to the same lifestyle.
      In fact it’s kind of insensitive. To each their own. I’ll never criticize anyone for having children, I think that’s great, and I still may have children one day when I’m completely comfortable with that thought, but I’m only 22 and I’m not right now.
      I could also be insensitive and say I am so very sad that so many older people want to make their lives so miserable and boring by having children, but I’m not gonna say that.. lol and before you take offense to that, you reading that and feeling what you felt is exactly what I felt when I read “empty existence.”
      Also just to add, the 3 years I’ve been young and married I’ve been anything but empty. We’ve had the time of our lives traveling, doing and going anywhere as we please. And we get to do ALL of this at our own discretion depending on no one to have to watch children for us WHILE we are in our early 20s. It’s been SO MUCH fun. So I apologize that maybe you didn’t get that same opportunity and maybe that would result in such bitterness, or maybe you did and you’re just bitter now that you made that choice. I’m not sure because I’m not judging people based on how they want to live so I don’t know what that feels like.
      Honestly, I think it’s great you have children, have 3 degrees, have traveled and built a fantastic career. But just to let you know (because it seems like you’re not aware) that’s not everyone’s life goals, and not everyone would get fulfillment from that.

      @@hayhay8077 oh it was tons of fun at the time. I am glad I got to travel and play as a young adult.
      I didn’t think it was offensive at all to say it was miserable and boring. I have not been bored, probably would have been if I was a stay at home parent. There have however been tons and tons and tons of miserable moments. Still worth it!
      I completely believe my 20’s were an empty existence. I am thankful for it and it built me a good life foundation and it included absolutely gobs of fun. But it was so pathetically selfish and shallow and just so empty. I could have died and have no real accomplishments.
      Life now is 1000’s of times harder but at least there is more depth.

    I always wanted to be a mom. I pictured the married, house, bio children path because that's the norm.
    I ended up becoming a solo mom via international adoption to a one and only kiddo. It's not at all what I pictured and I had to mourn that a second child isn't right for our family. But doing things just because it's expected doesn't make it right. You have to live for what life is rather than what you think is should be.

    Nice shoutout from Nate on the Mentawai tribe video. I'm certain he is referring to Fernweh Chronicles' RUclips video. It was amazing, very different from their own amazing video, but they highlight what is possible traveling with kids in a great way. As a full-time travel family, it is possible ☺ but very different from their current lifestyle. I'm sure their lives are amazing getting to travel the way they do, and I used to think I never wanted to have kids, but there is nothing else I've experienced in my life that brings me the kind of joy as watching my kids grow up.
