For all the people saying it’s illegal to deface coins, it’s not. As long as you do not attempt to use them anywhere, you’re fine.
My fine what
Dark Mage huh?
Not exactly, depends on context. You are correct that trying to use money of any sort that has been defaced is illegal. Theres a wide berth of nuance and context in there, but technically its illegal.
However, back to context, doing something like this, or using coins or paper money in art is generally allowed under various laws, if you are wholesale destroying coinage or money, that is illegal. For instance dissolving a ton of pennies in nitric acid to seprate the copper and the zinc so you can restract the copper and sell it would be illegal.
but it’s illegal in our country
you cannot destroy coins or paper bills
ex. bending a coin and throwing into the trash can or burning bills will get you fined
@dark mage, he meant you're fine
To make the sphericon, start with two bi-cones mostly out of frame, then be sure to twist them and hold them out of frame before continuing.
Dkfjfnfnf glad I'm not the only one who notcied

I swear I was like moving my head up trying to look over my screen 💀 then it killed me at 1:51 when he said “notice what it looks like”
Yo I was instantly frustrated by that. Haha.. too many things not working as expected in my day already led to a pretty short temper for me.
It's like those magic tricks I did as a kid, where I would ask my audience to close their eyes for a second while the magic happened xD
Wow that’s so satisfying
Or is it?

American coins are worthless anyway
@@Intrspace they are the opposite of worthless because it is literal currency
@@sethmoneygetter If they're the opposite of worthless, then why do Americans carry wallets without a coin pouch?
@@Intrspace because transactions dont require change most of the time, but currency allways value.
@@sethmoneygetter It costs more to make a coin than the actual value of the coin, making them worthless.
Rumor has it that he's still rolling those coins
I'm subscribing to you just because you look like Chandler XD
Wait how are you posting other people's videos? Mr. Who's the Boss? Max Lee? I don't know if you're supposed to do that...
This guy is enjoying his childhood
While being adult
And earning money in the process
Hmmm 1/4 cut NOT 1/2.
YOU DID NOT NEED TO CUT ALL THE WAY INTO THE MIDDLE OF THE COINS. 1/4 way each is what you need. Also cut with a hacksaw NOT the SNIPS.
oh m g... when i first read your comment i read it like... "this guy is enjoying his childhood while being a sl-t". .. sorry..lol
Its called Math, not Childhood.
OMG YOU'RE THAT ONE FAMOUS MEME
I actually made a sphericon at home using these two circles that came from a toy, they have ridges in the side so you can connect them. I was making miniature trees and when it fell it accidentally rolled, I was so amazed I showed my family. I guess this is a good alternative to cutting pennies XD
Yeah. I made a bunch of sphericons out of cardboard discs, and they worked just as fine!
Sphericons are so cool, very easy to 3D print and you can really have some fun with this and 3D printing is a great way to explore these. Thanks for sharing.

I would've loved a teacher like this chap when I was at school (...about a million years ago...). Excellent presentation, I think.
I was thinking about the gumboc today, nice coincidence
I can’t stop thinking about the gumboc....
It's spelled Gömböc
Really love how happy he is when doing experiments i appreciate the information and teachings
I love how you're interested in such a wide range of topics, like topology, physics, chemistry, just like me. Keep up the great work!
Those off-camera examples at the start really helped to get the point across
Yeah that's what I was thinking. I guess whatever it is it's really cool but I lost interest when all I can see in an arm with a few half seconds where the item does come into frame it's perfectly white and really hard to see anything important like shape because it's so bright and evenly lit you can't get any detail from shadows
It's been an year since I have been watching action lab and still he tells new things which I never knew.i love you action lab keep it up
*TED-ed and action lab posts video at the same time*
Me: *confused what to watch first*??
Proceeds to play both videos in two devices. ;)
kalpana rms tom scott too, and somehow mrfreshasian
So.... If I get coins back in change that are cut in the middle and pounded flat, at least I know why: someone actually tried this experiment. LOL 😁

I feel so much in pain now :)
@@RomanoPRODUCTION sorry lel
Why french lol
What is that supposed to mean
He probably means walking in zig-zag like French tourists drunk in parks when they travel to other countries. And that's true : we like to party when we're on vacation.
Although it's true for all other European nationalities too.

I have an exam in 30mins and I'm unprepared, but I saw you post and couldn't resist myself but watch your video, cuz this is where I actually learn science and not just some bunch of formulae to be learnt and forgotten. Thank you so much for keeping science alive for me.
I'm curious for the results on your exam. If it wasn't about 1-sided 3d objects then I don't think this video helped you much.
I actually made one of these by accident, i had some toys when i was like, 10, they had a circular shape but there was a line that almost cut through the middle, i put the other one through the cut, and rolled it.
*It looked cool*

As an American reliant on quarters to do laundry, in a city that seemingly has no quarters... this makes me cry a little 😢
I gotta get my laundry quarters on the black market
I will sell you two quarters for a dollar! How many do you need?
O
It looks so cute when it rolls. It looks like it has two little legs 😁
Love them or hate them, they really are on their way to places, and they’re going at their own pace
Now that's a shape I won't be able to predict
Nice thing to timepass with during this lockdown
Will be making the coin ones with the grandkids next visit. Very cool.
I love the alien type music in the background 😅😅😜
I actually made these out of used up toilet rolls. Fold one end of the opening to close it and fold the other end of the opening at a 90 degree angle. No glue or tape required.
It actually works!
*It's like a moving marshmallow*
yes.
MakerMuse and TheActionLab always have fascinating content.
A cone on the bottom, a cone on the top, a cone a-matadah. It’s a trouble-free philosophy.
Future generations would say, "Why didn't you stop The Action Lab from taking over the world when he was a small channel?"
Older generations: "Boy, it's because we don't want to."
Go back even further, when it was Hydrualic Press Action.
They work better when made of lead or preferably osmium
I find it interesting that the sphericon made out of coins makes the infinity shape when looked at from the right angle.

Most spherical, dude!! Most triumphant!!
This would be my inception totem.
It's almost midnight. I should be asleep, yet here I am, watching a man deforming coins to turn them into shapes that roll like handicapped spheres.
Yes, this is truly the pinnacle of the information age, ladies and gentleman.
way cool, now l want to go make my own, the gkids will be impressed

Makes me wonder if a Mobius strip shaped wheel could ride a wire or something.
Literally, new shapes are arriving.
Does the bi-coin has some correlations with human walking?

My friend: yea.. why?
Me: it's complicated..
That's gonna be my Inception Totem. Thanks.
Too much clever designs for a 3d shape.. that's amazing thanks for these awesome videos.
1:17 the only shape i could recognize
The sphericon was not in the camera view at the beginning of the video.
This made the description impossible to follow.
1:46 This clip looks so cool!
Like it's falling down and then standing up at it's own again. How cool is that 😆

Man, I love topology

It would be interesting to have a race between different shapes with the same weight and coefficient of friction to see which was the slowest down a ramp.
Hey Jimmy what Anime Con did you go to last year ?
Oh the shapes one Steve.

Can you buy these anywhere?? They're so cool!

There's so much math in these shapes. I can almost see the equations fly off as the sphericon rolls.

We found a circle sphericon
They would be such cool fidget toys XD its so statisfying to watch them wiggle roll around
Q:they say two metal stick together in space does the same effect work in a vaccume chamber???

Please bring back the mustache guy. We miss him
Reminds me of a Mobius strip.
Maybe a 3D representation of a 2D mobious strip?
I enjoy the laughs after he does any experiment
Now I know why we have a national coin shortage.
Wow! That's amazing and neat! 👍🏼😃
Turn both side 45° to the opposite direction
What happens if you roll it down a very narrow track surface, one narrower than the sphericon's "length".
Is there a point there the "wobble" disappears and it rolls smoothly?
I had this question in my mind for a while
Since black matter controls the shape of the universe as far as we know so far technically could controlling it means that you can like fold space and go anywhere without moving? Similar to how you know these kind of smart tricks like folding a piece of paper with a hole in it in a certain way mean you can technically move from one side to another without letting it from your hand?
I have thought about this shape for years and now I know what it is
Great video, beginning was top centered.
Oh
Now I understand
All these shapes are used in Shopping Cart Wheels
so THIS is why we have a national coin shortage 😂
I would guess the banks are removing coinage, to go all digital. All about control.
