You should do more reviews :) I have seen multiple reviews of this unit and you complement them very well. Others focus on how many db amplification and other technical stuff. That is also important, but with your review i learned how it feels to use it (e.g. the knob resistance), the ability to record a phone call via Bluetooth and so on. Also you keep it short and compact. Thumbs up!

Thank you, for this very practical review, which I sincerely appreciate. Your pleasant, "listenable" voice, as well excellent pacing and just the right amount of diction enhance the "to-the-point" nature of this review. I could listen to you all day.
Meant solely as constructive and useful criticism, the audio suffers from a surprising number of distracting plosives:
    1) at 1:27 "push-power"
    2) at 1:42 "up"
    3) 2:14 "input"
    4) 2:31 "output"
    5) 2:57 "push"
    6) 3:16 "input"
Thank you again for the review. It helped me decide to order the Vocaster.

      Hey, Thomas!
Yes, we wanted the audio to sound exactly as it did coming from the camera (and it's not my usual set up so there were elements that wouldn't normally appear in my audio).
Thanks for the thoughtful and kind remarks!

Thanks for a very clear and comprehensive enough review.
I own this and as some folks have mentioned it tends to "clip" the sound and that clipping is identifiable in the recording (not yours btw, I'm referring to the ones I've done with this.
It sounds like a low key mouse click and this is with the setting turned on to limit the gain.
There's probably a configuration to sort it out but this is my honest review and having been recording audio products for over a decade using various tools including Focusrite range and Shure mics (currently using SM7B).
    All the best!

This is a good start for a voice actor. The audio quality is good and you have a pleasing, clear voice. Lighting IMHO leaves some room for improvement, though.
However, you have to do your homework more thoroughly: There is no bluetooth in vocaster one (only in vocaster two). The great thing about the vocasters is, that they have a built-in DSP to enhance the audio. The audio is NOT processed by the software, which would cause delays. The software is only used to make adjustments (and it's the only option to mute speakers separately from the headphones output, because the vocasters lack a dedicated knob / button for this).

2:15 Connect phone by bluetooth? I thought that was only a feature on the Vocaster Two (not on the Vocaster One).

Hey Dan, you are correct - I misspoke! Bluetooth capabilities are only available with the Vocaster Two.

Hi, I loved your narration demo - no room reverb at all! How did you treat your room? I would highly appreciate it if you are willing to show us your room and your setup on one of your upcoming videos. I'd love to see how you process your audio as well. Thanks!

We'll definitely make a video about my studio specs and design soon. Thanks for the rec!
My office (the room I recorded this video in), however, is a ~ 12x12 ft room in our house that's carpeted, and then I've placed some AudiMute audio panels on the wall. But we really haven't treated my office space all that much. Carpet REALLY helps with echo/reverb.

Which microphone are you using with the vocaster?

My Vocaster One came today and I was so hyped to set it up, but after a few minutes I realised that its not possible AT ALL to turn of direct monitoring to your headphones.
When recording videos or doing podcast this isnt really relevant, but when livestreaming gameplay it is really annoying to hear every little sound you and your surroundings make, when this sounds arent even noticable on stream cuz of noise cancelation.
Focusrite knows about that issue, but "to always ensure the best audio quality" they prohibit the user to use essential functions, doesnt seem really user friendly...
This is really a dealbraker for me so i decided to return it, unfortunately...

Hey there! Do you recommend the Focusrite Vocaster One or the Elgato Wave XLR for use with the Shure SM7B?

When connected to your camera, how do you control the gain volume going in to your Camera?

    • @melaniescroggins
      @melaniescroggins  2 года назад +1

The camera output from the Vocaster is a 'line out' output, so whatever the gain is set to on the Vocaster is what goes out in the 'line out" signal. The tricky part is the camera input. Most cameras don't have 'line in' input, just a 'mic in'. The camera audio recording settings need to be changed from 'auto' to 'manual' and set to 0 (neither negative or positive) to equal 'line in'.

    Good Morning Ma'am 🌞
My name is Sukhwinder Singh. I'm a Civil Engineer.
I am very tired of asking everyone. But I did not get the right advice from anyone. Some say to buy a dynamic mic, some say to buy a condenser mic. I want to record my poetry professionally at home. Please tell me a good mic and audio interface which gives me professional sound quality within my budget. My room is not Sound proof, My total budget is 350 dollars for the audio interface, mic and headphones.

Hi, this is the third review of this I've looked at, and on all three I hear what sounds like a subtle but very apparent clipping distortion, despite the levels being fine. To me it does not sound as clean as other entry-level interfaces (Scarlett, EVO etc.) Nice presentation though. Thanks.
