Gemstone Dopping - Faceting Lesson 3

  • A brief demonstration on one of several methods for dopping a preform onto a dop stick, for faceting.
    There are additional methods which I mention but are not covered in this video, which include using super glue, and epoxy to hold a gemstone.
    The most important aspect to doping is to make sure that the stone is held tight against the metal dop, AND to make sure it is aligned about the center axis of the gem. Failure to do this will mean you loose material as the gem is cut as it will nee dot be re-aligned about the center of the dop stick. Failure to get a good connection will mean the stone my move slightly during cutting, or even come loose.

    This is a quick cutting wheel which I'll be using in my next video to quickly cut the main facets in my preforms. It is not shown here, but will be needed, along with a set of cutting laps grits 600, 1200, 3000 and a final polish wheel. I will post links to these in future videos.

      It is just regular dop wax I order online. I use the dop pot and the alcohol lap shown to get it soft
