I’ve been reading Sean Oliver’s book and hearing how Kevin Sullivan who normally hates everyone had such a great time on Guest Booker just warms my heart.
I loved the Gary Hart one. He would mention the tiniest tiniest details and I would be like "Holy crap, that totally makes sense!!" and it would make the angle that much better
I remember going to the National Guard Armory in Ft. Lauderdale on Friday nights and see Kevin Sullivan, Mike Graham, Eddie Graham, Steve Kiern, Ron Fuller, Pak Song, Bob Roop, Humperdink. Just to name a few. Lots of fun and fantastic memories.
At one time, Sullivan, Cornette, Flair, and JR were all on the same booking committee in WCW. What they could have done if Herd wasn't there would have been incredible.
The Reason Flair Left the Booking Committee Before He Left NWA/WCW Outright Was that He Raised the Ratings of the Saturday & Sunday Night Shows, as Well as Clash of the Champions, to Great Numbers ... & Herd Would Still Drive Him Nuts to the Nth Degree
@@frankbonini9128 I remember hearing that. While Herd wanted to put the Ding Dongs in a wrestling ring, he was shutting down some of the best minds in the business.
I being a life time bay area kid, I remember a time around 83 that AWA would have been able to get a big draw at the Cow palace. The issue was they had an angle brewing that never aired on tv or at any of the smaller venues in SF because Vince McMahon bought up TV time and the AWA had to change stations and dropped the angle cause the two superstars in question now worked for Vince. So it was possible and never happened because of Vince.
Greg is living in a parallel universe. The AWA never came close to selling out any of the SF Bay Area large arenas -- the Cow Palace and Oakland Coliseum.
AWA never came close to selling out in San Francisco OR Oakland. In fact, they eventually moved their cards to the smaller Kaiser Auditorium Arena in downtown Oakland.
10:00 "Referee Bumps" -we in Dallas who grew up with World Class Championship Wrestling call that a "Bronco Lubich" He looked real old by the time it was in full swing so it was real easy to believe a light bump would put him out
I kept on thinking that kevin sullivans card could be a lot better but that card would be enough to sell out MSG without giving away a great card which you'd save to sell out a dallas stadium or silverdome
Kevin Sullivan had a interview with WWE, and Stephanie McMahon, who is somehow head writer, had no idea who he was and asked what he had done in the business!
Putting someone over = Running them out of the company? That must be you Sullly! How about doing another Varsity Club re-union, that was GOLD last time!
Good to know you can't form your own thoughts. Oh and if you want to know some of the brilliant booking moves Sully made, look no further than your Avatar to see how he handled good talents! Take care now champ!
Based on a print interview with Sullivan I read years ago, he isn't a legit devil worshipper but he does believe in Druidism or something of that nature. But he's not actually a Satanist(according to what he said in that interview).
I feel bad for Greg in a way. Several people including Michael Hayes said that Greg understood where the business was going but Verne was out of touch. I wonder if Greg had more power if there is such a nasty split between Hogan and the AWA.
Solomon Grundy I remember Shawn Michaels telling the story that he and Marty were pitching the midnight rockers to Verne with Greg in the room and Verne with a straight face saying "are you sure people won't confuse it with rocking chairs" while Greg just shook his head

Poor AWA & other territories. It's all business wrestling is. I remember McMahon complaining about Bischoff with his nitro tactics, but Vince basically did the same thing in the 80's. Vince lives the ruthless aggression lifestyle it's not just a catchphrase for him it's a way of life.
Definitely! Gagne had a TV deal all lined up but when he told them he had lost Hogan the network cancelled the deal! It's such a shame. The AWA was going to do a legends night so the same weekend Vince booked a legends show for the same city and brought in guys like Mad Dog Vachon. Vince was a vindictive prick for real but man did he cry when WCW did it to him.
