These wires at 9:48 are the remains of a old modchip they were too lazy to remove. You can also see the glue from the old tape above the chip.

As someone who owned a PSP you should really hope not haha, spinning hardware is a good way to make the battery drain faster.

@@ccricers Without being able to play legitimate games though you might as well go all the way and just build an emulator handheld rather than keep the rest of the original hardware. That way no bulky unwieldy handheld, better performance if the better hardware can run some advanced emulator features and better battery life.
Even if it could play discs, since its a portable device, I'd fear scratching or damaging the discs due to movement.
For 500 I rather buy a steam deck or a rog ally it can play PS2 games thru emulation very well and it’s way more portable

@@chumorgan443ps2 hardware is better pcsx2 detects your inputs 2 frames late which drastically changes the intended feel of the original experience and can change the feel of most games, and setting the option lower only makes it more sluggish

Honestly if this thing could play PS2 and PS1 discs that would be pretty badass. But if you have to download the ISO’s anyway you’re better off just emulating on a steam deck or pc.

In 2015, I dreamed to have like that of a PS2 Handheld. But now, I'm glad that there are a lot of options to choose like SteamDeck, ROG Ally, Odin 2, Legion Go, and etc. where you can play not just PS2 games, but ALMOST all retro console and PC games as well! 😁

At that price, unless you need 100% accurate ps2 games on the go, there's no other reason why you shouldn't just get a PC portable or android portable instead like the Steam deck or Razer Edge.
I can run Ps2 games on my Moto G Stylus, basically a mid tier android phone from this year, you don't need a gigantic unusable portable Ps2 with loose parts in 2023

Yeah this thing is way too massive, chunky and ridiculous I have an aya Neo handheld pc with a ps2 emulator installed and am currently enjoying: raw danger, sos the final escape, ratchet and clank 2, jak 2, crash twinsanity, crash bandicoot wrath of cortex, Simpsons hit and run all play great 😁
You can buy a Steamdeck and upgrade it with an SSD for that price. Throw an emulator on it and do a lot more lmao.

Wires on the chip were where from when a mod-chip was installed. They cut them off rather then de-soldered them.
It is a PS2 Slim 90006 (from Hong Kong) according to the info shown on the screen after you got it to boot. Don't know why some games wouldn't work though.😃
It might be due to the OPL version (The program that runs the games), because the compatibility isn't at 100%. I have a modded fat PS2 and to run every game from the HDD, I have multiple OPL versions, and another program called HD Loader. It's a bit hectic, but much better than using disc imo. Especially with the fat models, since you can just put a huge SSD and call it a day.

@@598ghSSD for a PS2? Why? That's a huge overkill with no benefit, it's incapable of even utilizing the thing. An old HDD you have laying around would be more than enough.
@@lemonov3031 It is overkill, but at least I won't have to worry about mechanical parts failing. And SSDs are not as expensive as they used to 10 years ago, so it's a much better solution in my opinion.

Some ps2 games have issues on this.
1-Shadow Hearts 2 when you start to beat the first battle. Enemies won't show up.
2-Summon Night Granthese. Second boss, the bomb bunny. before Chapter 2. When you hit it to get off. It's froze.
3-When you want to delete some data on ps2 bios. It's forze when you want to move.

I don't know if you knew, but that Tekken Tag Tournament game didn't look like it's from PS2, it's more like a arcade rom. When you look on the player 2 side, it's telling you to insert a coin.

The motherboard still has the network input so you can probably load games via eth and have decent loads, anyway the size of the console is really funny.
And this my friends is WHY Valve put the thumb sticks on the top of the steam deck and not at the bottom. They know how to put stuff in the correct places. If this Portable PS2 was changed in the arrangement of the sticks and buttons like the Steam Deck it will be more accessible.

Lol the wii u did it and it sucked. Joysticks at the top isnt the best configuration. Its simply preference. This device is simply too big and the device is too fat. The ergonomics look terrible.

You know, these things KINDA made sense 10 years ago when the best thing handhelds could emulate was GBA or maybe PS1. Even then those low-quality portable PS2s were too big, expensive and overall shitty to actually use. But now handhelds and emulation went so far (seriously, Android PS2 emulator is only a few years old) that if you want to play PS2 portably you have a plethora of choices - Steam Deck, Retroid Pocket (can`t wait for 4 Pro), Odin, Asus ROG, hell, even a phone powerful enough can do it, and so much more - emulate Vita, 3DS, even Switch. It`s incredible. The golden times for emulation are right now, we can even play 360 and PS3, which was a pipe dream just a few years ago. So those shitty overpriced Aliexpress PS2 handhelds are now even more obsolete and useless than before.
Why would someone spend $500 on a portable PS2 console with homebrew? With that money, you can buy a steamdeck, emulate the games in HD, load custom HD textures into the game, and even have a longer battery life 😅

9:45 those are the modchip wires,the moder/seller who made this removed the modchip because it’s no longer needed….the modchips allows the ps2 to read burned discs/backup’s and discs from another region…like NTSC-J

Whats the point of this when you can buy a steam deck and emulate all ps2 games at 60 fps at 720p? And for a bit more you can get an ally or legion go. All of these emulate ps2 with better UI and also plays other games at mid to great performance. This device is about 15 years too late.

There are anbernics, that are pocket sized, that can play ps2 games, I assumed it would be huge so it could play discs, but apparently not, it's just unnecessarily big.

ima view this from the view of a buyer being someone whos favorite console is the ps2. first of all if im paying 500+ for this im expecting more than what this is. the size is obviously ridiculous for a portable device. it needs to be shrunk by at least half that means 4 inch screen.. the thickness could be cut down by at least 1/4th. for that price battery life needs to be 8 hours of constant play before it needs to be charged. but currently the way the product is, emulation through a steam deck or one of the countless handheld computers that are in that same price range is the better way of going about ps2 in the go. if these people are serious about providing a OEM experience on the go the design of the console needs to be revised with 3 thing in mind 1. portability, 2. comfort, and 3. ease of use. figure out those three pillars and people take these seriously.
And I thought the Steam Deck was big, jesus.

I can tell you why it's so big. I'm 99% certain that's one of those retina screens originally intended for iPads. For the last couple years, they've been kind of a big deal (pun slightly intended) in the custom retro/gaming communities. One of the best looking screens you can get that has two different input boards for it (including one you can mod with a custom firmware by Greg from Laser Bear Industries, IIRC). They're cheap and look great. Even I've got one, but I've never taken it out of the box it shipped in.
Also, I think you were just wording things in a way novices could understand, but at 10:57 that's just a board to solder to, to make the final connections to the pins of the controller port. It's not tricking the system into thinking there's a PS2 controller plugged in, because there is one (well, soldered in). On the front half (bottom in the video), the little square green board with the globtop contains the main chip from a knockoff Dual Shock 2 controller.
They could have reduced the size alot. They should probably have just made it as small as possible and instead of having built-in controllers, come with a Bluetooth controller because that does not look comfortable to play and if it’s battery powered it still technically, portable, only it would still be comfortable I always thought about trying to buy one of these things with the idea that it’s gonna be junk but I will improve it but I’m afraid to send so much money to China because if they send me nothing or garbage what recourse do I have? have you always got what you paid for when ordering products from these companies would you say it’s safe to make a purchase?

The thing I don't get is the removal of the disk drive. Like if you are going to just run roms anyway why even use the original hardware which caused it to be such an unwieldy thing? At that point you might as well just run an emulator on more modern and small hardware. The only reason to use stock hardware would be to be able to play legitimate games which it can't. Of course the question is would a PS2 disk drive even work upside down/sideways when in this handheld form factor and if not could you get a disk drive to replace it that would?

Fun fact, both the fat and slim ps2s have 3rd party screens like the ps1 slim. Get one of those and a portable power supply, there ya go. Ps2 portable.
Even better, get yourself a Samsung Galaxy Tablet and a DualShock 4 controller. You'll get a nice large Super AMOLED screen that's easier to carry around than a Steam Deck and has great battery life.
Better off doing that instead of wasting your money on this chunky beast

If you got extra money to burn or collect these kinds of oddities then you’d probably buy this. Honestly, I would buy a dedicated PS2 portable because even though I emulated some PS2 games on my PC the performance is kinda terrible frames-wise.

I had that since i was 11 and still has it (i asked my mom to buy me ps2 but she bought this instead and said "theres none left" and clearly ignored that i knew they had alot left)
Ya Austin Evans showcased one of these too, and man that thing is massive. Side note the PS2 slim was hands down the best console ever made. The fact that you could take it with you anywhere easily was awesome. It was literally like carrying around a book. I just purchased a renewed 500gb ps3 super slim. Outside some good scratches on top I'm not disappointed for $160. Which makes me want to grab the PS2 slim from the same company for $143. Even though my wife is gonna murder me lol

There certainly aren't for everyone, quite a niche product i'll say. And unless the listing pictures are used by multiple people on there, looks like the seller (not that very listing) i bought mine from earlier in the year, my unit being a little different, like it booting into the PS2's "dashboard" without the special memory cards included, as normal ones do. Sure, my PC can do PS2 emulation very well as well as some high-end android devices, along with having a few actual PS2's myself. So that made it a bit pointless to get yes, but it's the novelty of having an actual PS2 that is portable like this, that you'd get one.
And i do like mine, and do enjoy using it. But being practical, you can get an Ayn Odin 2 Max, for the same price. Which does PS2 emulation very well (bought one myself), along with plenty of other emulation it can do too, so if you own neither device at the time, it would be a much wiser choice to get an Odin 2 Max, instead of one of these PS2P's.
Also why some games don't work right, because of the custom software used to make the games run on the Micro SD card. But yes, quite the niche thing it is, and for the few that'd get them, can still be a fun "little" device.
