Nice video, long video but i let it run in the background while prepping my pauper deck for todays big paper tournament. I enjoy the background listening!
Always appreciated! Definitely a longer one but I wanted to give as much context as possible and tried to leave timestamps so people could listen to whichever deck discussions they were interested in.
Sorry for asking but what is the difference between kuldotha and burn kuldotha I thought they are the same or is there also a completely different mono red burn deck?
Yes. So there 4 different similar red strategies. Kuldotha red is split between kuldotha red and sticker red. Basically the same deck with and without name sticker goblin. Pinger burn is without the kuldotha rebirth/bushwacker. And regular burn is the older school thermoalchemist + fire blast, etc.
@@saltandpauperAh I see, so something like this is sticker red or kuldotha, because the name of the deck is burn?: 4 Chain Lightning 4 Experimental Synthesizer 4 Goblin Blast-Runner 4 Goblin Bushwhacker 2 Goblin Grenade 4 Goblin Tomb Raider 4 Great Furnace 4 Implement of Combustion 4 Kuldotha Rebirth 3 Seal of Fire 4 Lightning Bolt 1 Mutagenic Growth 1 The Autonomous Furnace 4 Voldaren Epicure 1 End the Festivities 12 Mountain
That's a hard one. If you don't care about condition/or set matching you can probably get a lot of decks for that price point. But usually the best budget deck is always red. So probably kuldotha.
@@tastypuddles synthesizer is quite good. Though I think glitters may be the best deck right now. And is pretty cheap. If you can find that for the same cost glitters is best. But boros is a pretty good budget choice. Same with Orzhov Blade if you can find a deal on it.
Hi, good video. I think most of your assessments were reasonable. I don’t agree that familiars is really a combo deck, I’d say it’s much more a control deck. (My last 100 matches I’d say I needed infinite life maybe once). I agree that there is a barrier to entry to playing the deck online, but once you have the reps in the deck is much easier to play online. If your opponent doesn’t match your pace of play online they lose. In paper if your opponent doesn’t match your pace you can draw.
That's a reasonable position. I e just been very low on fams lately as it is really vulnerable to alot of what the meta is packing on the SB these days. But it's no doubt still a good deck.
I play Mono U Faeries religiously. Before, it felt like a deck that really punished you if you made a mistake, but rewarded skillful play. Now though, it feels like a deck that really punishes you if the opponent doesn't make mistakes. Top tier decks have more ways to draw cards to the point that outdrawing you is not out of the question even if you hit with one ninja each turn, and their threats are so cheap that any answer you have for them (if you even have one) are more mana expensive and thus you usually have a hard time splitting your resources between developing your board and staying reactive.
Agreed on ponza it gets rolled by the fast decks and thats whats on top right now. Also agree on kuldotha vs sticker. Its not really one card or line of play that makes or breaks kuldotha. Its the general value and speed and pressure that makes kuldotha. I run a pretty old school kuldotha list though. No blast runners or goblin grenades but i do mainboard 2 fireblasts for a sneaky burst game 1 and then they usually get boarded out game 2 unless i decide not to board and just race. Im also still running dimir terror haha. Mono U terror does crush though. It brings the speed and they always have a counter up. No snuffs in my dimir list, but i do like disfigure sideboard against glitters. Im also running 2 delvers and 2 modern age haha! Only 5 mental notes. Its pretty memey i kinda play it slower like control early game then midrange out my big lizzys. I usually don’t enjoy playing control or combo decks so this is kinda my control/grind deck haha
That's an interesting version of dimir terror! I still have dimir terror built as well. Mine run 2x foil as secret tech to be able to turbo put a terror or angler and still hold protection for it. It's very sneaky.
Hahaha going old school on em! I havent seen foil in ages, i would honestly be shocked if i got foiled! I have a buddy that loves punking guys with a singleton mana tithe haha. As an aggro player at heart i am guilty of getting a bit giddy with my unprotected lizzy at times haha
Mostly I am basing my placements off of its inability to put up results in large tournaments. Everything on the list is capable of a 5-0 league with luck and the right matchups. But these are trying to give suggestions for newer players to choose a deck to bring to an event.
That is fair I was listening to this at work last night to get better insight on the format and I just found it funny because I was like wow he really hates the deck I choose. And I get it nobody like the ld in any format. I also think the gardens deck looks great but it just seems like midrange heaven
@@mrskittles6486 oh don't get me wrong. I have ponza built. You just won't make any friends. Lol. There are matchups it absolutely smashes through with ease and matchups it can't possibly win. It's a solid deck. But always seems to lose out overall in big events like Paupergeddon and the like so it stays a league only deck against certain fields. I love gardens it is a total control players dream deck. But lately my favorite deck has been Orzhov Blade. Deck is a midrange pile but seems to have a winning line against just about everything in the format right now
Great video! I think dredge isnt that bad. Against fair decks that don't run gy hate it wins consistently, it has some fair mu vs some tier 1 decks like gardens and even affinity post side. Sure gy hate is bad but if you build manabase you can still slam a troll. I think, if played straightforwardly (don't play around gy hate too much, don't be afraid to return giant for few dmgs to face, etc) it can win. I have 2 pauper decks that I play the most, bogles and dredge. Unfortunately bogles is now unplayable so I've been running dredge and it isn't that bad. Def a tier 2 tho lol GG
So when I did this rating it was still mostly jund dredge and was pretty new, as the deck has been refined and it recently got the new surveil 2 rumblebelt 1-drop. The deck has gotten much better, I think tier 2 is a totally fair place to put it.
ofc mate, I commented a bit late lmao yeah its a playable deck now, def better than some meme decks like slivers etc lmao keep up the good work I love your videos @@saltandpauper
I'd love to see a link to the torrtex list. Imho the deck flies under the radar and has a lot of resilience to manage most of the metagame.
I'll see if Josh is willing to do a deck tech for a future video!
