It makes me cringe how many people say they are an owner of this brand or that brand just for cred when in reality you click their page and it was abandoned years ago, sad world we live in.
As someone in the process of creating my first line I appreciate this insight from a lifetime of experience in the industry. The concept of not pigeon-holing yourself was really fascinating and a point I hadn’t thought of. Much appreciated!
I am grateful that I had an opportunity to watch this video, this is one of the most valuable videos about this segment. I am so glad I´ve subscribed to your channel Sr. I just have one question if you don´t mind answering it. If my brand designs clothing, accessories, footwear and fashion, how do I adjective my brand in terms of category? Thanks so much
Hey there! Thank you so much for the support. I greatly appreciate it. I would love to answer your question I just need you to clarify you question more for me. I'm not sure what it is you're asking.
@@planetbrooklynacademy Hello Sir, I´m sorry, I didn´t make myself clear. My question is: I want to keep my brand as a clothing brand but I also will be designing footwear and accessories. So what would you say my brand is? Should I claim that my brand is a clothing and fashion brand or should I call it something else?
Well I would ask you what is your main focus. What is your brand largest product its trying to sell? If its clothing then you're a clothing brand. But you can category extensions like footwear and accessories. But here's the problem. If you are looking to launch your brand by doing everything all together you are going to fall into a lot of issues. Also making it harder to be successful. It is best to establish one category, get it going to a point where its sustainable before you launch the next category.
How do you feel about the term Lifestyle brand because I’m starting as a luxury streetwear brand where I make tshirts hoodies and sweats with high quality material but I want to have some affordable tshirts as well so i can have as many people wearing my brand as possible
You are 100% correct sir BUT with all respect it’s 2023. Things have change you are correct in everything you said but this generation when they say “streetwear” it’s used more as like a trend or “The new thing” kinda like “Rap” and “Trap” it’s the way this generation classifies this style as “Streetwear” so to them they do sell Streetwear its just the generation. Plus they do want that label that’s the “Thing” or that’s the new “Fashion” even though you are correct you need to see it from this generation’s point of view. Again nothing but respect to you and your channel sir.
Hey Bro! Thank you for reaching out. I appreciate your perspective. I hear whats you're saying and I understand. But as someone who's witness the evolution of fashion life cycle it doesn't matter what year or decade it is. Streetwear is just a title. Before that it was Urban. At some point streetwear will change to a different name. Its all about the evolution within the urban setting. Its always in flux.
When you say designs are you talking about creating t-shirt designs as in cut and sew or are you also referring to graphics for t-shirts. What I do currently is just create graphics that are put on apparels, like that's what I can do now...but I'd love to in the future learn to cut and sew, find materials, create designs those things a fashion designer would be involved in
When I say designers I am kind of broadly using the word. It can be use to refer to both a graphic "designer" or fashion "designer". What you're doing you can say you do fashion graphics. But once you started creating cut & sew items and doing the graphics as well its just easier to call yourself a designer because you're doing both.
Its probably because we don't have enough videos. But don't worry we are working on more as we speak, Glad you are enjoying the info we are sharing, Much appreciated.
Peace my brother I have a question I have been culminating my brand / label now since 2016 I am now at the level where I'm considering to call my brand/ lable not only Streetwear , something else more so along the lines of artwear just to get your insight what is your opinion on a brand / label being moniker of Artwear.
You calling your label "Artwear" I think is great. First off you're differentiating yourself from everything else. You can still exist in streetwear but you are again letting people know you are something different. Its like a brand calling themselves StreetLux. Yes they are still part of the Streetwear universe but by adding "Lux" they just broke away from the main oversaturated line. Really play up that "ArtWear" aspect.
Sounds like someone is a "Streetwear Brand"...I Agree With You, I Consider Myself A Promoter Of My Brand. Not Much Of Designer Even Tho I Have Ideas Of What I Would Like To Bring To Life. Brooklyn Love
Its ok if you're not a designer. Having the vision is just as important as actually creating the garments. Diddy never designed anything for Sean John. But he knew what he wanted. So got a team to execute his vision. He directs it. He promotes it. As you said you are "the promoter of your brand." You are not just that you are the visionary of it. Keep at it fam.

Never said they weren't. I'm a former skater. I bought decks from Supreme when they use to carry other brands in their shop like Element & Hook-ups back in the days. Stussy was not just a skate brand. They were a action sport brand. They were Surf before skate.
I totally disagree with you. Streetwear is streetwear, you don't have any right to tell people what they want their brand to be. Grow some hair, old man.

This is honestly so real even 2 years later, it’s a matter of time before Streetwear is gone!
I don't think it'll be gone but it definitely will evolve into something else.
This was very informative. Thank you
You are very welcome.

And I also want to sell products like sunglasses ashtrays rugs wallets suitcases and other everyday things to be more than just clothing
I think that's the best way to categorize yourself. Lifestyle brand is the way the market is trending to.

Can I say that I’m retailing private label leisurewear?
I’m designing and selling hoodies, t shirts, hats. Etc…
Thanks for this. Def glad i heard this before jumping the gun

That’s actually a really cool moniker, man. I really like that and I haven’t really heard any brand being labeled that. I it’s fresh.

amazing amazing information!
(the background music was a bit distracting and unnecessary IMO)
Sorry about the music. It was one of our earlier videos. We didn't have the levels figured out yet. lol
Great video bro.
Jus for the record… stussy and supreme were skateboarding brands
Never said they weren't. I'm a former skater. I bought decks from Supreme when they use to carry other brands in their shop like Element & Hook-ups back in the days. Stussy was not just a skate brand. They were a action sport brand. They were Surf before skate.
You don't make sense streetwear is a category the brand is focused on that category in some circles it's called a niche
Can you clarify what you mean? I made this video over 2 yrs ago and don't know exactly what you're referencing from what I said.
I totally disagree with you.
Streetwear is streetwear, you don't have any right to tell people what they want their brand to be.
Grow some hair, old man.
It’s ok to disagree. Don’t be disrespectful.
It was hard for me to grasp this concept because some of the top and classic brands call themselves streetwear. Including the designers themselves.
