- Fallout 4: Sim Settlements 2 continues, as we assemble our troops and prepare for our assault on the Gunner Headquarters, which is somewhat complicated by the fact I immediately forgot what the actual battle plan was...

Who needs an army in a Fallout game when you have the main protagonist? Oh wait, Jon's the main protagonist? Yeah an army is necessary, if or no other reason than to actually find the battlefield.
I just appreciate having a few distractions present so some of the enemy are shooting at them and not me.
@ManyATrueNerd operation human shield at it's finest😂
@@lonzo51191operation "human" shield? We're not racist! Human, synth, mutant, heck, add children to the list seeing as they're literally invincible, anything vaguely bipedal will do!
@JakeTheTrouserSnake agreed! That's a better way to put it. I was toying with the term operation NPC shield, but it doesn't roll off the tongue as well. You're also forgetting abominations, ghouls, and all other wasteland wildlife🤣
@@lonzo51191 you make a very good point, you could probably fit a centaur in a T-45 unit without chopping off too many pieces 🤔
Jon: "Looks like the Gunners are shooting at the mannequins!"
Also Jon:
I think I see why the Minutemen did not send their best for this mission.
Low Intelligence character working as intended.
I like to think that the Sole Survivor only resorted to violence because Wes said the wrong thing.
Wes: "And then I will be the Governor of the Commonwealth!"
Mayor Bob: "Care to rephrase that?"
I completely forgot Jon was originally role playing as a Mayor
Governor Bob
@@TheRedWon With a big hat!
The Brotherhood squire is the strongest one. In Fallout, kids can't even die until they turn 16! (unless it is part of the plot) Just send him in front to tank for you.
In other words, in Fallout 4 Jon should have just contacted Little Lamplight and worked out a deal for them to come and deal with the Gunners 😄
Lupe: "Inside! Inside! We gotta go inside!"
Jon: "I'm going to pretend I didn't hear that"
Right! "Pretend!"
9:40 Jon, you said they would send one power armor and a scribe and they literally did just that. This is some foresight level of understanding.
Its likely a reference to running joke since fallout 1 that the Brotherhood are the worst allies and always bring pitiful amounts of help
@@iamwords2d200yeah, for those who don't know, in Fallout the BoS can send like 4 guys in power armor to help you assault a base, but, they only help outside of the base. I had a mod or something where the paladins would follow you all the way down but I got stuck on an elevator. I'm guessing that's why they don't follow you in
"thumbscrews or not the ron should've kept his mouth shut" listen the ron the minute the bad guys bring out a scalpel while I'm tied to a chair they are learning where my family is okay you're tougher than me dawg- er cat
Jon: *disappointed at the level of assistance provided by the Minutemen.
Also Jon: *Uses Minuteman artillery to clear a path to the front door without a 2nd thought.
The villainous employer is something with an uncanny knowledge of hidden things. It's The Ron! And he's a ghoul wearing a mask!
That danger close artillery strike on the door was beautiful
The Minutemen refusing to send proper help despite you doing everything for them is extremely in character.
Honestly they might still be smarting from the Starlight Drive In Massacre, and who can blame them.
@@ellaisplottingthat artillery was fired by minute men too though, right? Probably for the best they didn’t get too involved in this operation.
I appreciate that Shhandy has the exact personality of the kind of kid who'll just barge into anywhere to give you a message.
I always liked in Fallout 4 that anytime the Minutemen showed up they were "Just a guy" basically. Fits their faction. They're not an Army with dedicated logistics and standardized equipment and all. They're just a bunch of settlers who volunteer for mutual defense as a militia. So you get settlers showing up when a Minuteman patrol is around. Pipe weapons, a 10mm, maybe a laser musket or double barrel shotgun if you're lucky. Just whatever they had on hand.
It'd feel weird to me if the Minutemen showed up with like Plasma Rifles and Combat Armor, you know? That's more Brotherhood of Steel territory.
You're exactly right. These are basically just random locals with a radio, slightly more than minimal firearms training, and some spare ammo. I do wish they could get some coordinating jackets or armbands or something as makeshift uniforms, but even that would be a little bit of a stretch.
Honestly, I'm not sold on the random settler with pipe weapons logic. Maybe if I'd rushed this quest with like 2 basic settlements, then it makes sense, but if you're running a trade network across the map then you would hope that somewhere, a decent gun or two might be found alongside with some people able to use them well. If the General calls upon you to take on the gunner's HQ, you're surely going to be digging out the good stuff from your inventory.
I don't know. I think that's a crossroads (Because it's related to a complaint I also usually see about the Minutemen) between Player Desire and Game's Narrative.
Like you see a lot of people grumble that despite being 'The General" of the Minutemen they can at times refuse your orders if you give them BS orders (like in that Institute Quest where you try to order the Minutemen to stand down and let the Synths kidnap someone). Or that they don't bend over backwards to give you anything your heart desires or get pissy if you start killing the allied settlers and such. And that they don't get upgraded with Combat Armor and actual Laser Rifles kitted out after taking the Castle, etc, so they remain "useless" even when you call them in, etc.
Because well... the Minutemen are a bunch of farmers who want to farm instead of fight ideally. They follow you because they respect the Minutemen and what they're doing not because they swore some oath of fealty to follow all orders and such. Volunteer Militia of whoever is available at a minute's notice with whatever is on hand. And the Commonwealth compared to California, the Mojave, and even the Capital Wasteland is a very poor area. Biggest settlement's security forces are using baseball bats and pipe guns. Most settlers only have a couple hundred caps on them, barely enough to buy a pipe gun and ammo for it. In good part because The Institute has constantly been screwing with the Commonwealth to keep it divided, poor, weak, and undeveloped. Not like they have the Gun Runners holed up in a Pre-War machine shop with a bunch of old world schematics available to print new guns either.
I like that all the factions in there are unique. And I wouldn't want the Minutemen looking and operating like Gunners. Even for a moment like that. Just would be jarring to me if I ran into Settler Billie Jean and her 5 friends showing up in Combat Armor and Laser Rifles (as some mods often try to fix the Minutemen and give to them).
@@hitomisalazar4073I think it would make sense if like 1/100 or 1/1000 minutemen had higher level equipment, cause, not every farmer is gonna have the same level of weaponry or armor, that's kinda what makes a militia interesting is your bring your own kit
I like the We are the Minutemen mod because they’re stronger and, combined with “You and What Army-More Minutemen Patrols) you get a strong backup but they’re still ordinary people-just more of them and slightly better equipped and organized.
I am in awe of how ambitious this mod is
Presumably the employer will be the folk who funded the Nightingales' hospital.
I think it's the original guy who built the Com Hub, a vault tec scamer.
I'm impressed not just so how detailed a fan made mod is but the retention of viewers for a series thats 31 parts in
Did anyone else notice that Berman's corpse had a document in his inventory called "Algernon's Orders" (29:28)?
Pretty sure it wasn’t a big deal. I did this mission and killed Berman and would have read the note and if it was notable I’d remember it. Jon might have read it and saw it was nothing of
interest.
If I recall correctly, it relates to berman capturing Jake
Jon is so lucky he didn’t yeet the Bobblehead out of existence. I’ve definitely done this in this room.
Jon, you need to scan Mama Murphy with the Vit-a-matic, she should be in Sanctuary considering you can't move her
There's a potential mod breaking bug that you may encounter soon. Going to be as spoiler free as possible so you can avoid it Jon.
Soon, you're going to gain access to the Headquarters mechanic of the mod. During the tutorial, the game will ask you to build two things to advance the quest and give you the resources to build them. DO NOT BUILD THEM AT THE SAME TIME! Build one, exit out of build mode, wait for the game to update, then build the second. Every time I've gotten to that part of the mod and not exited build mode, it's locked me out of the majority of the HQ mechanics as the game gets stuck on the tutorial script. Their forums have also had a lot of talk about this bug and this looks like a way to prevent it. Sadly, you won't know if the bug happened till later in the quest, so maybe get a mod that lets you make hard saves in survival and use it for this just in case.
That's pretty crazy that this mod did a better fight than finding Kellogg in the base game. This felt like fighting an actual army versus Kellogg and his little battalion of gen 1 synths. The reveal of the mysterious employer also feels better written than the reveal of the Institute as Kellogg's employer. Great job to the mod team!
Just wait until they have fixed wing air support. Because jets are in this mod.
children in fallout 4 are invincible that little boy is your best troop
I'm very suspicious that Bermans body had a note titled Aligerons orders. A deep cover mole inside the Gunners would not be past the Enclave, if it is the Enclave could in fact be a rogue computer like Modius from F76 leading a Vault tech army like in F3. Wouldn't that be a twist.
Either way great fireworks Jon
Strange that Jon did not look at the note. Either did not notice it, or it was nothing special (something like "stand down" that was completely ignored by Gunners).
@@AgentWest knowing Jon it was "Note, what note" 😂
I did this mission and I would have definitely read the note and I don’t remember it so it was probably just a stand down order.
Sorry to disappoint you but it's just the note you could have stolen from Berman when you first met him in Diamond City (back when he was still working for Algernon)
Beer, soba, popcorn and a MATN video.
Decent way to see out my birthday.
And "One Scribe and his Dog" would be an excellent Fallout story.
Happy Birthday!
@@ManyATrueNerd Thanks to you both.
Happy birthday.
Based on reading the Wiki and my experience, I don't think that Critical Perpetrator Detention is supposed to trigger until after you have completed Court Practitioner Drafting. Despite the implied urgency I would suggest doing Court Practitioner Drafting first to be on the safe side.
I tried going in by myself. Bad idea. I expected regular mines. They weren't.
That's why I commented under Jon's last video he should to assault the gunner plaza alone. Just try it once, just for the laughs.
I had a few other mods installed, including the fabricate your own legendary items, including armor.
ALL of my apparel was legendary sprinters. I had a total of over 20 items (backpack, earrings, belts, etc) each with the sprinter boost. My movement speed was boosted so high I could outrun a vertibird. But not those explosions. Once the countdown of those "big boom mines" started, you had five seconds left to live. Then boom, a little ragdoll flying tumble animation, and you were dead.
I just did this quest and chose the special option only to be met by a stealth blade assaultron straight to the face. My saving grace was drugs, companions and being able to VATS super quick.
Jon the gunners could be back by the institute just the same as the enclave
(9:40) The BoS routinely send teenagers into combat zones as "observers", but it's problematic no matter how you look at it.
I had the same realization. Jon has around 25:00. You just have to at some point go inside otherwise the mod keeps throwing enemies at you.
I love how after he wiped out part of his own town with an artillery strike to gunners amidst his own troops... he decides to attack the Gunners with an artillery strike right beside his own attacking troops.
I'm not sure the fact it worked much better this time is luck, or, well... luck. Yeah, it was luck. Made a pretty boom however, in a battle full of pretty booms.
That has to be one of the better uses of artillery in Fallout 4. I always forget to use it or I don't have the actually artillery emplacement in a nearby settlement whenever it would actually be useful. But that was the perfect depiction of the impact of artillery on a battlefield.
Jon, why didn't you look at the note on Berman's body?
I stumbled across this series by accident, got to say I was a bit gutted that there wasn't another episode after 31 😢, but I am looking forward to when you do carry on with this series.
I've played this mod myself, but you have shown me a few things that I didn't know about, for example the CPD expanding (because I didn't scalp and collect foreheads). Your commentary has literally made me laugh out loud.
So I just want to say thank you for making this, and can not wait until the next episode is out.
Aiden was probably watching Bob rush onto the roof and do all the murder thinking, ". . .why didn't you pick my plan again?" Meanwhile Lupe was like "I REALLY HOPE I HAVE PROTECTED STATUS SHOULD HAVE LISTENED TO JEFF ABOUT WHAT THIS GUY'S LIKE" XD But yeah, I am looking forward to seeing who the employer is -- and seconding all those comments saying Berman was carrying a note with "Algernon's Orders" on it! Even if it was nothing, I still wanna see it.
Every time Jon says ‘bare minimum’ have a shot!
"Just some person with a 10mm" is pretty good for the Minutemen, really. The settlers are always getting screwed in the base game, and most of them are armed with pipe weapons
That might have been the most effective artillery grenade ever thrown
That Fonzie dude really made my day :D
This if the best fallout4 series so far
2 weeks later...i take it Skies of Arcadia took over Jon's attention you know what I can respect that its a underrated Sega JRPG
Dude I’ve been craving more SS2 like no other I’m so sad he hasn’t dropped a new video yet
@@Drewdatbeastttttttt i guess we wait until SoA is done for now although now more than ever is a good time to get back to it due to the new fan influx thanks to the well made Fallout show
There are hidden autosaves in the opening Vault segment on Survival. Simply select "Show All Saves" on the Load Game menu and you should be able to see them. Works well as a means to skip the intro stuff while maintaining character integrity (example: exiting the Vault without XP, collecting everything in the Vault, etc.).
I’m going to make the wildcard bet. The mysterious benefactor is…
The Ron.
Love these videos. Best series on RUclips at the moment
Great series. I'm really enjoying the storytelling as well and how it keeps you guessing. What's going to happen next, can the character be trusted, are you going the right thing, are your choices going to come back to hurt you in the end. So much better than the vanilla Storyline.
Ooh, well fancy that!
A callback title!
The minutemen just sent some guys.
Uhhh, jon i have bad news about the historical precedent for the minutemen.
The way that kid just casually walked out of the ether an into view while in mid conversation.
And the horse you rode in on!
Battles like this is when I like an Enraging Pipe Pistol
Crit Legendaries or Commanders & they attack their allies while their army turns against them😊
Wicked
Most factions will put up 2-3 people. Minutemen 1-3 depending on the amount of minutemen settlements (Commonwealth+).
Railroad 1-3. Brotherhood 1-3. Institute 1-3. CPD 1-3. Nightingales 1-3 (medics).
Disappointing turnout was due to the disappointing amount of their quests that you have done so far... 😛
Thanks again, Jon. I have had a tough week. This made it better. Thanks!
You missed algernon's note when you killed brennan..
I love how me and Jon both had the same theory that the employer was The Enclave. I won’t spoil if it is or isn’t but still
That was so F'ing EPIC! I'm loving this series Jon! Can't wait for the next episode! 😃✌
This was a Masterpiece "chefs kiss*
Oh god ice accidentslly caught up with the series now i gotta wait auughh
OMG, that battle was a cock-load of fun. Well done Jon!

My Minutemen are great because mods, namely, We are the Minutemen and You and What Army (more Minutemen Patrols).
I love when bad guys can be taken out with funny science lol
Making me real nervous walking into that artillery smoke Jon!
"The marnia look great" silent snickers cause spoilers.. oh that day will be hilarous
I did choose to not trigger an evacuation order, maybe there was one or two people inside in the same situation as Lupe, being forcibly conscripted and all, but letting other, proper, headquarters equipped Gunners run loose would definitely cause more casualties in my mind
Just love watching Jon play and listen to the story, I never even think about it,just enjoy it
I love this series that you're doing my favorite
I think John should do a red dead redemption 2 play through. He might have to do a quick run since I’m not sure people would be down for it but I’d enjoy him being a cowboy.
Yes, bring back American John!
He wasn't sold on RDR2's gameplay when he tried it. Neither personally or for the channel.
Whether that's changed much since that opinion is at least 3 years old, dunno. But he was not planning on it at all back then.

Good afternoon Jon! Thanks for another lovely Sunday video :)
It's insane how this mod is so good, Bethesda could have sold it as a full price expansion.
I got through about half of chapter 3 before the bugs got too bad to function and I found myself using the debug console for parts of every quest. It seems far more stable on your system and the recent update you mentioned for sure has helped. Itll be nice watching it instead of beating my head against the wall trying to keep it working myself.
Yes, it's turned into crash city and not triggering for me too.
Don't worry, Cola. Your old pops has been avenged.
Well the Minutemen were predicatably disappointing. You are their general calling for assistance and you get two peasants show up. :D Not even Preston (he's probably too busy planning where next you're going to do everything) Plus I love how like a dozen people are considered an "army". :D Seemed bit of a Scooby-Doo attack plan to me. "Do we have the right to wipe them all out?" asks someone facing an enemy who will be firing mini-nuclear weapons at you. Backing Jake makes every further death at the hands of escaped gunners blood on your hands. Wiping them out would be the utilitarian objective best. They weren't even given the choice to flee out of a moral choice, but rather a pretend evac order from their own command. So any who fled would not have done so because they were secretly good people.
I am sorry but this doesn't make much sense:
1. Broadcasting a fake evac order does not mean that the gunner conscripts (I.e. the people who are forced to fight against their will) who were going to flee anyway suddenly become loyalists.
2. Practically speaking, forcing the enemy to fight to the death by cutting off their retreat will make them fight 10x harder (c.f. Sun Tzu). If you are already concerned that your army is not up to the task then this is the last thing you should be doing.
@@romanw6636 Agree with both points by themselves without the related context. But:
1. The point was to let those who were good people flee. So the broadcast message should have been targeted at those. Not a general evac that orders everyone to leave because they are ordered to do so. The message, if there was going to be one, should have been something along the lines of "If you wish to renounce the gunners then leave now and we will not stop you." The whole idea was not to kill the "innocent" or "good" among the gunners, those who weren't all bad. The redeemable. That was the justification offered. That's the clear implication from the conversation. A fake retreat order means anyone and everyone who follows orders would leave, it does not distinguish the good from the bad, merely those who follow orders and those who don't. That's why it makes no sense; because the justification and reality are entirely misaligned. While I agree with both points in isolation of the specific context, I disagree that what I said makes no sense because the context is crucial.
2. Yes true. That is however a different point. We are talking about Jake's reason for broadcasting the message, which is presented as being to spare the good within the gunners, not a reason relating to the ease of the battle. It's purely an ethical justification, nothing to do with Sun Tzu or any form of military tactics. His narrative at this point is "do we have the right to wipe them all out?", not tactical considerations. If it were the latter then your point is fine, but it's not the latter offered by Jake.
The fact that Bethesda made the Brotherhood Squire look like a hitler youth during the fall of Berlin is somewhat telling
Shhhh, the brotherhood stans might start screaming at you and asking why you're calling them xyz :P

@@ellaisplotting that's what made me remember the idea, when I saw you could romance Jake. I only played the 1st chapter and part of the second. I never got the romance option so it was still a possibility up until I saw this video.
