New subscriber here coming over from Melissa.. all things crafty. Love how you did the faux wood with foam board. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with next. Have a great week! Take care. Blessings
THIS WAS JUST MAGICALLY MARVELOUS. i AM DEFINITELY GOING TO TRY THIS. WAS SENT HERE FROM UNICORN DESIGN, AND WATCHING A PROJECT SHE DID THAT YOU WERE RESPONSIBLE FOR. THANK YOU, FLO
It looks like cedar fencing when it’s not stained or sealed. Looks just like the wood on many cottages and cabins in Maine and New England along the coast. The salt spray weathers the wood to this shade.
Regarding Waverly paints. I am in Canada and looked for these paints. Found out that Waverly is made by Plaid and they make a paint Home Decor which is just like Waverly. I suspect it’s the exact same paint but just with a different name. At any rate, I use the Home Decor paints by Plaid and they work just the same.
Thanks for watching. Waverly paints are made for Wal-mart by Plaid. If you don't have Wal-mart available you can use Folk Art, they are also made by Plaid and are close equivalents.
I love your techniques and your videos, but I really dislike all of the ads... I understand having some, but you have much, much more than all of the channels I’m subscribed to. It would be great if you could cut your ads in half! Thank you for sharing your inspiring ideas! Many blessings to you and your family!
I found out the reason RUclipsr’s have ads is because that’s a way for them to make some money. Especially if they are just starting out or don’t have many views. I had no idea. I thought it was something that happened automatic. If we skip the ad they don’t make any money. At least that’s what I read.
The antique gives you the brown colors, so black wouldnt give you that look, also acrylics have more moisture which might cause the foam core to warp and they have less pigment that the chalk paints which would also effect the look that you are wanting. If you can't find the Waverly Antique wax, look for the Folk Art Home Decor Antique wax, it is the closest equivalent to the Waverly, both are made by Plaid.
I’m here from Unicorn Dust Designs. She has mentioned how awesome you are at creating faux wood on several videos. Then BOOM 💥 I’m a new subscriber. This turns out flat out amazing. When you say saturated sponge, do you mean saturated with water or paint?
You would do the wax and paint, but you would need to start with a dry chalk paint surface. The chalk paint surface is needed for the wax and paint to do the faux look.
I love this. What do u use to cut the board ? I have trouble cutting mine so they’re not real jagged. I want to make a bunch of these for my wall behind my craft table
Thanks, we use a Logan mat cutter, here is link to it on Amazon, other members have found it on sale recently at Hobby Lobby. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0082XGP4W/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B0082XGP4W&linkCode=as2&tag=thepeppermi08-20&linkId=14198d71f8ce99ad6fc49e036da1e975
The paints and waxes are Waverly by Plaid from Wal-mart. The wax helps the paint float on the foam board and limits the amount of moisture absorbed by the foam board to help keep the paper from peeling off.
Welcome and thanks! No the sponges are dry when I start, but once they get saturated with paint they will stay moist, I will store mine in ziploc bags to keep them from drying out.
Can you provide me with a link to order the 3 Waverly Inspirations Wax products? I am in Canada and I have been searching the internet. Nothing can be found in Canada and when I go to Amazon or E-Bay and other sites they give me a lot of alternatives such as Home Decor . . . I have purchased the Foam Core. I know it will cost me more to get it from US and have delivered to Canada however I want professional results and that only comes with the proper supplies/ products, terry M-E
The Waverly waxes and paints are only available from Walmart, they are currently out of stock. They are made by Plaid for Walmart, they were shut down due to covid, their production has started back just recently and they are starting to ship to their retailers, so just keep stalking Walmart online for them.

Looks a little like Birch, which is my favorite wood.
Amazing job...I would never of known it was foam board. I have another question...can you show what you use to hold your clamps please?
Love, love, love. Thanks for sharing. ❤☕
Love your methods!
This is insane. It truly looks like weathered wood fencing. Just Amazing 🤩
Beautiful!!!

@@ThePeppermintCactus Thanks so much. Sofar I haven't found them. Perhaps it will be easier to find the folk art.
Could you use them as a half wall in your kitchen?

I would never know it was faux wood.
This is beautiful. How do you stick it to the wall?
If I don’t have antique wax, would you recommend buying it or would it be possible to mix black acrylic with my regular wax?
Or brown acrylic
The antique gives you the brown colors, so black wouldnt give you that look, also acrylics have more moisture which might cause the foam core to warp and they have less pigment that the chalk paints which would also effect the look that you are wanting. If you can't find the Waverly Antique wax, look for the Folk Art Home Decor Antique wax, it is the closest equivalent to the Waverly, both are made by Plaid.
Can I use white wax in place of clear?
I bought white wax thinking it was the chalk paint and couldn’t return it as I already opened it.
The white will change the color of your paints that you mix it with.
What is the size of your boards? Love your videos.
For most of my projects I cut mine in 3" × 30", but just depends on the project I am working on.
I want to do an accent wall using your video as a guide. Do you recommend the boards being wider or would it be okay to do them 3 inches?
@@alisajay 3 inch will work, just depends on the look you want, any width is fine
I’m here from Unicorn Dust Designs. She has mentioned how awesome you are at creating faux wood on several videos. Then BOOM 💥 I’m a new subscriber. This turns out flat out amazing. When you say saturated sponge, do you mean saturated with water or paint?
Welcome, sponge is for paint.
Amazing! That’s all I got LOL
How can seal the foam board?
How do you connect the boards to make them into a bigger project to hang on the wall?
We use duct tape to make the backer boards to the size that we are wanting.
@@ThePeppermintCactus Thank you made a project and I Love it.
I want to do this look on a painted paneled wall in my livingroom..would you suggest the same wax/paint technique..or all paints ?
You would do the wax and paint, but you would need to start with a dry chalk paint surface. The chalk paint surface is needed for the wax and paint to do the faux look.
Please post a picture/video of it on your RUclips so we can see how it turned out
How damp are your sponges? Are you using ink chalk or acrylic paint?what is your project?
What do you use to attach them to the wall
I use Command strips for larger projects and poster putty for the smaller lightweight ones.
I love this. What do u use to cut the board ? I have trouble cutting mine so they’re not real jagged. I want to make a bunch of these for my wall behind my craft table

The Peppermint Cactus thanks so much. I had no idea that there were cutting tools like that.
Love!
Thank you!!
How wide is each board and do you seal it ? What do you seal it with ? Can you tell me colors again
are you working on the paper side or foam side?
It has paper on both sides.
What kind of wax did you buy and what does it do? Thx.
The paints and waxes are Waverly by Plaid from Wal-mart. The wax helps the paint float on the foam board and limits the amount of moisture absorbed by the foam board to help keep the paper from peeling off.
@@ThePeppermintCactus Thanks, I will make a Christmas tree collar out of foam board using your method.
Is there a list somewhere of all the supplies that were used??

Hi, i'm new and love your work. Can I ask are the sponges wet before you dip them...and if so is it lightly or saturated?
Welcome and thanks! No the sponges are dry when I start, but once they get saturated with paint they will stay moist, I will store mine in ziploc bags to keep them from drying out.
@@ThePeppermintCactus Thank you for responding! Love your work!
Im making a large sign with foam board.. Making flea market sign... They want $150.. Ill spend.. Maybe $20. Whoo hoo
It looks like drift wood

How are you joining the planks to make a project, terry M-E
Planks are mounted to larger sheets of foam core with hot glue

Can you do this technique on actual wood? Such as pine?
Yes, I recommend that you start with a white chalk paint base coat that is completely dry.
@@ThePeppermintCactus Awesome, thanks
What size do you cut your boards?
They are 3 inches wide and 30 long
