- Is Apple iCloud robbing you? Stop paying for iCloud photo storage and do this instead. We take tons of photos with our phones and the storage adds up over time very quickly. In turn where do you store all of the photos for easy access? Most would say iCloud. iCloud photo storage costs money. Most don't know you can create shared folders for FREE and doesn't count against your free 5GB of iCloud storage.

Are you paying for iCloud to save your photos and videos?
Yes and I lost over 400 us and I want to keep it want to buy it without subsribing
Is this feature no longer available??
I’m already playing for Apple One but now you got me reconsidering!
Great Video Man!
Haha. Thanks man! Yeah I haven’t even really considered Apple One just because I don’t use those features really.
Omg man thank you for this. My wife has been paying for the cloud for a few years now. Super appreciate you making this mad helpful 🤙
Nice! Glad I could help out man! Let me know what she says when she finds out she can do this. haha!
OMG! Thanx a mil. Been paying for 100s of years.
thank you so much bro i appreciate your info👍
Awesome...sneaky...love it! Great little hidden tidbit. :)
Thanks man! Yeah so many just don't know.
Thank you so much for your idea! I was thinking about how I can have all my photos without spending my money! and I found your video ;) I'm so happy right now! ;)
Glad it was helpful!
great video, thanks. Still works as of november 2023
The only reason I still see value in paying for storage is because the entire process is automatic, and it includes automatic phone backups too. great video though!
Absolutely agree with you.
I am a new subscriber and also new to iphone. It has been very frustrating to make that move but am slowly catching on and you have helped! I don't know if I understand this video, is putting your stuff in a shared folder sort of a work-around? Meaning it is still in the cloud or a cloud but it's not part of your allocated 5gb of icloud? Also do you have a video on how to create an icloud email or is that the same as Apple ID? Thank you!
Hey Travis! Thanks for reaching out and glad I could help out! Yeah def can be frustrating. My mom just did the same recently. Yes the shared folder is a sort of workaround. It’s in “the cloud,” but doesn’t count against your 5gb of iCloud space. I do not have a video on how to create an iCloud email, yes it is the same as your Apple ID.
@@AppsthatRule Awesome! It is amazing how difficult it is to get an answer to that simple question! Thank you for answering and so quickly!
Hi Man
Thank you for this awesome video. Even though I have been using Mac n iPhone for few years now , it still confuses me . So why doing this does it still take your phone’s memory?? Or just hides in iCloud?
And also when you taking photos is there a way that we can setup so all the new photos go automatically to selected shared album? Would you have iCloud photos back up on or off?? Just want to avoid having all photos album
It won’t take up your phones memory if you delete the photos off of your phone only after adding them to the shared folder. There is no way to auto send them to a shared folder. I would have the photos backup turned off because that takes up iCloud storage space. Do a test. Take a few photos for fun, put them in a new shared folder, then delete them from your camera roll. Make sure you see them in the shared folder. It should all work.
Thank u my friend awsome
Sounds great but Is the picture quality in shared albums the same as in your photos or does the iphone compress the pictures down in size ?
Good question. I’m not 100% sure, but I’d probably say slightly compressed. However, if you’re taking photos with a phone and not a DSLR then what’s it matter? For the average consumer this is a lifesaver.
Wow, I did not know this I’ve paid 2.49 for years!!! Thanks!
I’m a sucker who pays for for iCloud shared storage (as part of Apple One). Great tip!
Yeah Apple One I can get to an extent. Thanks man! 👊🏻
You show me right way bro i use this now😎😎thanks bro
Great video. Thanks.
You're welcome, thanks for watching! Glad I could help!
Do I still have access to the albums online if I lose the iPhone?
And will I still find the album if I change my iPhone ?
Thanks your vid super valuable :)
Yes has to be online and it works off of your Apple ID so you can access from any device.
Love what you're doing here, this deserves a lot more views! Wish I could make this on my channel, that's why I subscribed. Keep doing your thing, jealous, greetings from Denmark!
Thanks a bunch!
This is gold bro
I’m having trouble seeing create shared icons when I click the + sign to create. I went through the process anyway and created an album. But when I deleted some photos from that album and they went to trash. They were also deleted from the album I created.
Today, there is no option for “shared” album.
Lets say if you get another phone any other steps to take or will the photos be on the new phone ?
Yes. As long as you use the same iCloud account to set up the new phone.
This is great!!! I am defenitly trying this,. I have a question tho: what happens if they steal your phone? you loose all those photos?
Nope. It’s all saved under your iCloud account.
@@AppsthatRule Under the free 5g?
Yes it doesn’t count against the free 5g.
@@AppsthatRule This is amazing! Thank you so so much for replying!
No problem. You’re welcome!
I think that feature no longer available in iphone 14
just so people know these photos don't have the same quality as the original. They are compressed; good enough for most people though. Just be informed.
hi, would this work on a desktop also?
Yes it does.
So unless it was part of an update or maybe a setting. I’m not seeing new shares album at all. Just the top 2 options. Am I missing something?
Check your settings, scroll down to photos and make sure shared albums is turned on.
Is this how I use my internal storage on my iPhone? I purchased the iPhone 13 with 512gb but it keeps saying I’m out of storage because I only have the $2.99 storage for iCloud and been wondering how I could use my internal phone storage for the longest time now.
No. This is through iCloud only.
Dude!!! I’ve been bamboozled! Great video. This if a GREAT life hack. 🙏
haha! Thanks man! Hopefully it helps some people out. We use this feature all of the time as a family, easy to keep everyone together even when far apart.
Where are all the pictures in the new shared album stored? Is it on the phone or ?
It’s in the cloud
the best. thak you so muchhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Then when apple rollls out an update. Bam all your stuff gone 😆😆😆
This is why it’s always good to have a backup to the backup. I have majority of my photos/videos backed up on external hard drives.
Apple removed the feature after they saw the video
how many days does icloud shared library keep photos??? Please tell me
Until you delete it yourself.
@@AppsthatRule thank you so much.
Now it’s not working all photo and video showing storage in iPhone space now I have 85GB in shared album now where I keep all this yaar 😢
You need to delete the photos from your phone, including the recently deleted folder.
So now in 2023 June got an email from Apple saying my 2 TB + storage gonna cost 50% more form next month…. !? Wtf ? I use like 300 GB for all stuff, I’m not sure if the shared album would allow that.. or?
Yes it should. I would take time and organize folders. Def backup everything onto a computer or other device to be safe as well.
What happens when I am switching phones? Would I get all my shared photos back?
Yes, I just switched my phone and all is there. It’s all through iCloud. Not the phone.
@@AppsthatRule fantastic!!!
I can’t start a shared album. What do I do? 🙏
Go into setting and photo album and turn on shared folders.
@@AppsthatRule Thanks!
Is it safe for my privacy?
But it doesn’t save the pictures in iCloud, so if you get a new phone, it’ll all get deleted.
Mine does. I have shared albums from like 9 years ago. Had multiple iPhones since.
I wonder how long this little loophole will remain?
I had to CLICK ON THIS TITLE FAST!!!!!!!!!! and i need to know this hack ":)
haha! Thanks Liz! It's a hack that'll save :-)
whats the point of buying a 1000$+ phone and saving all your photos and videos in half or quarter of the quality.
i just wasted my time checking and it does lower the resolution at least by half and compress by 3x. still, unfortunately no free solution for automatic media syncing exist for the iphone
There are other options. I think the media that is saved looks fine for regular photos. If you’re a photographer or videographer then yeah this isn’t the right way to go. But for the everyday user it’s a great deal.
I don't ever want to have to pay to store or access my own files.
Available for 30 days only
Not sure why you say that? I have shared folders from 10 years back.
I unfortunately don’t have the shared album button in my photos app 😭😭😭
first of all you need to on shared album in icloud
step: setting>profile>icloud>photos>shared albums On
Limit 5000 photo
What concerns me is… I know you’ve been using it this way for years and it has been fine, but what if Apple closes that loophole? Poof 😢
Just back up your phone on a hard drive. So if you have them backed in a hard drive why do you need the cloud, well albums let you have quick access to them from your phone wherever you may be.
Two years later, you can only add a “new” album, not a “shared” album.
Not from what I see.
@@AppsthatRule
OK, I find the shared album. However, it looks like it now counts against your available storage?
What a hassle. No thanks.
2023 that’s not true 😢
This doesn't work anymore. The person who created the album will foot the storage of the shared album. Apple has changed it. Boo!
Not sure where you got that info from. I have multiple shared folders still and it doesn’t eat up my storage.
@@AppsthatRule Somehow there's a new message that says it in Settings > Photos > Shared albums when creating a shared album.
Unless u have enough GB in ur device then u be able to do the save it in share album other wise it won’t I’ve tried did some but others not downloading into created share album says” storage is full manage ur device’s storage so it don’t work.
Shared albums do not count against iCloud space.
@@AppsthatRulewhy is that?
