Thank you Ryan & Joanie. More great content. This video showed me that while I am doing something’s correctly, I do have a couple areas that can use some attention and upgrading. You two are so cute! I enjoy your humor and silliness.
thanks so much for this video. I have spent hours and hours trying to work out the best way to store my photos. Your video has bought everything together and i think (?) the penny has finally dropped for me!! Thanks guys.
I have been researching for weeks and I’m still so overwhelmed. I have a million diff hard drives with duplicates & nothing is organized bc I can’t keep up. Can I copy to two hard drives on the OWC at the same time since it’s not a Raid? Store one in a fire safe box? Use SSD’s so it would be faster than uploading to my two separate 5TB Seagate’s one at a time? I keep reading a Raid system isn’t really a 2nd backup. I just want to backup family photos and have an easy way for my kids to have access one day. I’m not sure I want to invest in the Synology yet or can even figure it out. #busymomlife We’ve already had a close call with a lightening strike and Texas tornados so this is keeping me up at night 😅
Do you have recommendations for some good instructional video ons setting up the Synology 4-bay NAS? I have the hardware but haven’t found a really good instructional video. I’m new to your channel, a recommendation from Steve Cusato, and noticed the Synology thumbnail. Your information is so well articulated, easy to absorb, and exquisitely produced. I thought maybe you could direct me to a source. Or maybe have Mr. Simon do a video. 😊. I am a geek, but not an IT geek. Thanks for this information, I am at least happy that I invested in the right hardware if only I could get it working.
Cloud based backup using synology is incredibly expensive.... you can, instead, get a second synology and put it at a family member's house and sync them. Costs a little more upfront but it'll save the $100s you spend on cloud backup.
Hello! I am a Synology user for my family’s day to day storage solutions and I’m looking for a cloud base solution to backup my NAS. Can you recommended one? Right now I just have Google drive synced to my NAS using hyperbackup
Very helpful, thank you! I had to upgrade to an 8TB hard drive but it’s and HDD, I’ll look for an SSD in the future or the NAS system. I just recently also learned about BackBlaze and I’m backing up my computer and external hard drives to it. It’s taken over a week and it does use up bandwidth, it slows down video uploading and streaming when it’s backing up continuously. I’m hoping that it will be better once everything is fully backed up and it just does smaller updates 🤞🏻
You guys are too stinkin' cute together. My Hubby is a D&D nerd too. Love that your editor, editor bombed the video. So funny. Really good to have backup and it's really time for me to up my game. lol. Look at you knowing terminology. True, we've had hardware fail. Not fun. That's when we got our Seagate. But I don't know if it's IronWolf or not. I totally thought the thing under our desk was a power protector. I had no idea it was just extra outlets. Thank you guys. You were very cute and the end was funny.
It took me a while and lots of external drives to figure out my backup solution. I now use the WD My Passport Ultra 4TB for Mac. It's a super cheap and reliable HDD (hard drive) that I backup my MacBook Pro and two Samsung SSD (solid state drives) daily and weekly. One Samsung drive is an archive of all my old clients, documents and media files, and the other Samsung is for my current media files (photography and video). I have a third Samsung SSD drive that is a clone of my MacBook Pro. I also have three old LaCie Rugged hard drives for very old files. Also, it's very important to keep a record of all the folders and/or files on each drive. I have so many drives, that I need a record to quickly find files I need and how much storage is available on each. So far this solution has been the fastest and most convenient solution for me and it's not very expensive. I'll have to look into a much larger external drive for working on media files as my business grows, but for now it's a good solution. SSDs keep getting cheaper and faster which is great and a must for artists. Thanks for this video!
Great video! As someone who loves outdoor camping and values family time, having a reliable backup power source is essential. The Segway Portable PowerStation Cube Series seems like a fantastic option with its massive capacity, fast recharging, and waterproof technology. Plus, the smart app control is a convenient feature. Definitely worth considering for all outdoor enthusiasts and RV lovers!
I'm getting a laptop for shooting teathered & only for food photos. Lightroom specifies 8 gigs minimum but I've heard that 16 is better. For low volume can 8 gigs do it?
Great video! Answers the questions I needed in a clear concise package. A lot of videos talk about parts of this but you gave the full scope in an understandable package. Thank you! PS: As a couple, you are obnoxiously cute. I wanted to dislike you but you were too fun, personable and helpful! Keep up the good work.
I loved the video Joanie, it was very informative and funny. I really need to change something about the way I store my photos!!! You two are a cute couple 😍
Hey guys. Thanks for a really informative video. When using a NAS solution, you mention that you still backup from the NAS to a cloud based solutions like google drive, but wont that be really expensive very fast, or is it just the jpgs and not raw files ?
OK this was awesome. You guys are so cute together! Ok now for my questions: If i get a 4 bay Synology does that mean I store stuff on two of the four and then the other two are the mirror drives? I was looking at the 2 bay version but each bay has a 2tb max and since the second drive is just a mirror, I don't think 2tb will last me very long. So does that mean I will get 4tb of storage and 4tb mirror drive on the 4-bay version? Assuming I buy four 2tb drives? Boy that was a lot of numbers hahahaha! Thanks to you both!
Hi, you can actually get empty Synology or Qnap with 2 bays and stuck 8tb or bigger HDDs (check for supported ones) and have it set with Raid 1 (Mirror) means if you stuck 2x 8TB you will use only 8TB....but if you get 4 bays, there is raid 5 or SHR (Synology typical) that will allow you to use 3/4 of 4 drives space (if they are same size), meaning if you stuck in 4x8TB drives, you get 24TB of storage (with one drive failure permitted)
I'd like to ask you something about Sinology. How can I upload my raw photos there and use it as a big hard disk (no matter how many disks there are) to store all the shots? For example, can I insert an SD card into it or upload files only through the web interface? ;) I would be grateful if you share the model you bought, a very interesting experience.
dinner with these two would drive me crazy, all the baby talk, all statements sounding like questions, the silly stupid jokes, I could stand them for about 3 minutes, if that. education and culture have done a number on these two.
Thank you Ryan & Joanie. More great content. This video showed me that while I am doing something’s correctly, I do have a couple areas that can use some attention and upgrading.

awesome! Glad to be able to help! Happy Friday :)
I love the channel. I’m a retired IT pro only watching for the pure entertainment value:)
It's so nice and fun to see the dynamic between the both of you 💙
We definitely have a lot of fun together! Very thankful for Mr. Simon.

It's not a "Universal Power Supply (UPS)" It's a Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)
D&D! Yes!!! There are others like you out there... It's okay, it's not the '80s (Yeah, I'm old and started there). Thanks for the video!
Thank you so much Mr. Simon. :):) Thank you Joanie for these yep boring but way too useful videos not many want to do. Gosh I feel lucky!
Ha ha!! Awesome! So glad they were helpful!

UPS is uninterruptible power supply, not universal power supply. Great tips though and I love the channel!
I thought it was Network _Attached_ Storage.
IT guru ....friends zoned bro. Just leave.

What do you think of WD Passport wireless SSD for field work, where no power is available?
Dingbats.... how to store real physical photos... video title= fail.

@@TheBiteShot Yep, yep! And mine's always rolling a one. Poor dude. I LOVE taking shots of his dice. I love doing them macro. Crazy fun.
NAS is typically called Network Attached Storage.

Helpful video. I’m What backup software should be used to run the backups? I currently use Goodsync but don’t fully understand it.

👍🤪mirroring two hdds (raid 1) is not a backup, you need another hdd, or preferably a cloud drive
so in conclusion, get cloud, but a physical to carry around with you for the small things
I loved the video Joanie, it was very informative and funny. I really need to change something about the way I store my photos!!! You two are a cute couple 😍

very useful topic! Exactly what I need. Thank you.
Here we had a wireless flow of data between the people who participated in the conversation :)
Great info. I really need to invest in a better storage option and this really helped me figure out what I need to do. Thank you both!
Awesome! So glad!!
Hello Joanie I just sent you an email, I hope you will check it out. =)
speed to transfer data from NAS to pc/mac is way to slow when you have lot of data
I need someone that will look at me the way Mr. Simon looks at Mrs. Simon 🤣🤣
Everybody need a Nerd in their lives... Pick me Pick me !!!!
Thanks! I was looking for a video like this one for a long time! ❤️❤️❤️
I loved this AND my tech/nerd husband did too! Thank you for the smiles and the info! Now to figure out which direction we want to go!

Looks exactly like my synology drive. Feeling a little excited I may have gotten this right.
