Fantastic movie, amazing interview. Can't wait for Sheridan's next project; such a brilliant writer. I love the nuanced character-driven stories he tells.
He is a great screenwriter and a great director. Sicario, Hell or High Water, Wind River, Yellowstone, the movies and shows he's involved in are all great.
Omg I love this guy !! I felt this Sicario vibe watching the movie and then saw it was directed by Sheridan, such a masterpiece. I love when he talks about the beginning of the third act at 9:30 that was soooooo well directed, just perfect.

@@corpsefoot758 *SPOILER ALERT* I believe it's got to be the specific device of the knock on the door that cuts to the beginning of the scene of actual crime. The time of day/night works as a good visual cue for demarcation.
@9:48 the shift at the 3rd act was amazing and makes the movie very unique. That's one reason why I love this film maker and to hear that he fought with studios to keep it in makes 2 scenes that are bridged very sweet. I think we will look at this filmmaker's catalog like we look at Scorsese and Tarantino and just revisit all these fantastic stories and the unique, moving ways that they're told.

I know you he has many ideas but as a country boy I love the dialogue and pacing in his writing, very realistic from an American country person point of view.
Ryan Kasik YES! That’s a fucking GREAT idea. Although I gotta say I thought “no country for old men” was pretty well done, Cormac’s work needs a guy like this...
I mean it is written like a script but it would just be horrendously long and gruesome. It would be an event to sit through and I would. But then I would go watch Spongebob or something to balance out.
I've seen Sicario and Wind River now, and I've just loved Lawrence Taylor's work. They're such cool movies, not perfect films, but still stupendous and up there with my favorites. Excited to see what he does in the future.
Interesting stuff about cutting. I like Villeneuve but Blade Runner especially suffered from a cut that's just a bit too long for the cinema and falters here and there. The juxtaposed scene in Wind River technically wasn't needed because we see other clues that tell us what happened, yet it was an interesting break in the tension. And what tension it was! Considering the cartridge scene, weapon stopping power seems to have deliberately played a part in the narrative and impacted the shoot-outs. Also props to Nick Cave and Warren Ellis - their range is always quite narrow but the music alone is strong enough to carry scenes (not that it’s needed).
I must say I loved Sicario, pirated the first one, went to the movies for the second one, then I loved Wind River as well, sadly wasn't any screenings either, now that I know it's all done by the same masterpiece writer I'll surely go to every one of his screenings.
I am happy to hear he say that HOHW and Wind River make up the trilogy, because Day of Soldado really didn't feel like the spiritual successor of Sicario.
Soldado is underrated, I think it just gets hate because of things it wasn't, and not because of it being a bad movie. Also critics rated it bad because they couldn't understand it was critiquing US foreign policy.
Michael O. what do you expect from these actor's, it's very seldom that you get an honest opinion and a understanding of the people who supported trump, from what I've seen and heard these Hollywood types live in a political bubble, but maybe I'm just focusing on the common idiots.
Harry SK I don’t care about his political opinions. I think he’s a fantastic storyteller and I came here to listen to him talk about his craft - not his ire toward Trump right at the outset with no justification. It just makes me roll my eyes and distracted me from what I really wanted to hear.
@Tommy Meyers, yeah I don't either; I came here mainly because of Denis Villeneuve and my love of Sicario. Really, it's more of a reflection of the filmmakers opinion, using Taylor as a vehicle to express their conjoined feelings. You can tell it was just pre or post interview B-roll footage that they chose to edit into the final piece and place at the beginning to make sure it was seen. Not faulting Taylor, it's just a poor post production decision.
Are you telling me Cory coulda been Chris Pine????? Come ooonnnn D; That being said I think Jeremy NAILED this performance as Cory and I was not disappointed :)
A really smart guy. interesting to listen to. But two questions: - at 9:05 he goes "There's the director in me - I just crossed the line, I gotta keep my eyes over here". Is it like that when filming, that the actors can't look over to "the other side" of the camera?! I thought they were just not supposed to look INTO the camera, but anywhere else is fine. Not "crossing the line" seems like a strange rule. How can you act natural whilst controlling your glances? - Do Hollywood producers really care so much about the chronology or a screenplay? The rape scene could never have gone in the start of this movie - THAT would have messed up the structure. Lots of films are anti-chronological, when the story demands it - like "Inside Man". Why the hell would they object to that here? Well, anyway - love his work. Bringing back real movies to Hollywood, instead of the never-ending weird-powered superheroes and their exploding CGI spaceships.
What? No, he was not. He was in a motel with his wife to take a break from the kids. The daughter died bc she invited some friends over and well...somehow she got assaulted and she ran away from home then died in the cold. We don't know the entire story but it's very similar to how the other girl died in the film.
I'd love to know to. But I suspect it has to do with a lot from factors like how many Native Americans live on reservations, how many are distrustful of American government, how our government neglects proper ethnic/racial representation though out US censuses, and many many many more
