Denis is the best director of his generation. Period. I know you see comments like this all the time, but I find it hard to name a more versatile director working today. Although sci-fi is his bread and butter, Denis has made excellent films from multiple genres. This is a subjective claim, but I genuinely think none of his films are bad; it’s merely a matter of which is better than the other (and even that is difficult to determine). The fact that he made a sequel to Blade Runner - a sequel that I think is monumentally better than the original - is a testament to his skill as a filmmaker
I remember coming into the theatre watching Prisoners having never heard of Denis. Now after also watching Polytechnique, Sicario and Enemy he is probably my top 3 favourite directors.
I feel so proud that Denis Villeneuve, Jean-Marc Vallée and Xavier Dolan all come from Quebec! They are making beautiful projects, I can't wait to see the next ones
Hearing Denis Villeneuve admitting to everything he has not felt or experienced on anywhere close to a personal level, and then come out with such masterpieces is just wow. I am an admirer now 👍
7:56 Even if my English sounds like the one Denis is speaking (we are both from Quebec City), I smiled at that part: You know to know, you know to know the limit, you know to know the where where ;)
0:55 "Do you prefer to work all the time or do you prefer to have a little space?" unfortunately he had no rest time for making dune part 1 and 2. he even said it was taking a toll on his mental health
He is so incredibly talented. I'm a huge fan of Prisoners and looking very much forward for the Blade Runner film even though I'm not a fan of the first one. To see his version and his understanding of the universe and the characters are gonna be so exciting!
Early reactions have been very positive, indeed. I'm quite optimistic. Incendies and Polytechnique are also great. Check them out, if you haven't already.
Thank you so much David Poland, you are an extraordinary man for bringing us closer to artists of genius! I watched with great pleasure your interview with Trent Reznor and Ethan Hawke and just wanted to say this. The access that you give us is a non-stop gift. I truly hope that you will never get tired! All the best
Episodes that I hope will happen and I look forward to watching them: DP/30: Midnight Special, Jeff Nichols DP/30: Everybody Wants Some, Richard Linklater DP/30: The Hateful Eight, Quentin Tarantino (or any cast member) What's yours?
Genius Director! I hope he will keep following his own path instead of directing pictures that 'rich' producers want him to direct, because that seems to be a by product for a lot of great directors nowadays.
well...the gauntlet has been laid down. if he and deakins can make a great sequel to bladerunner ...my hat will officially be off. hoping for the best!
+Matt B Drawings ALL TRUE ...but you should blame the SCREENWRITER for all this, not Villeneuve. In fact, it's a tribute to Villeneuve's talent that he's able to turn awful material like SICARIO and PRISONERS (a script that's basically like a bad episode of CRIMINAL MINDS) and turn it into a visually arresting edge-of-your-seat thriller. Can't wait to see him work his magic on a GOOD script for a change (like the upcoming BLADE RUNNER sequel).
this man one of the best and underrated directors of his generation. i hope he's not too tired for bladerunner i hope you interview ryan cooler as well
One of the greatest filmmakers working today
indeed
THE greatest
Says a lot about the industry
@@oscarsalesgirl296 what exactly? Regardless of the "state" of the "industry" he is a great director.
Up until Incendies. After that...
My best friend is recently home having spent 9 months working with him on Dune. A lovely guy by his account and a massive talent by all accounts!
What does your friend do? He is on set or does he do post?

+astroception Man you should watch Incendies
Volodia Arnaud Haha woops I have watched Incendies and it's what I meant instead of Polytechnique which I haven't seen!
Man you should watch Polytechnique
+Volodia Arnaud Hahaha.

You guys need to NEVER STOP making these quality interviews... pretty please
One of my favorite directors! I am so excited for his upcoming movies!
Seems like a nice and humble guy!
Hell yeah he's one of the few directors left with cojones.
Lol
These are so brilliantly insightful.
When he talks about creative control and ego. Phenomenal.

Phenomenal director and great interview!
Here after Dune 👀 🧡
I literally have not followed a filmmaker as religiously as I follow him. He is a literal GOD!
I can't wait to hear his Dune interviews soon.
I hope they do
He is very quickly becoming my favorite filmmaker of the decade.
Prisoners, Enemy, and Sicario were all fantastic. I heard his new film 'Arrival' is very good also. It is still pretty far out though.
Early reactions have been very positive, indeed. I'm quite optimistic.
Incendies and Polytechnique are also great. Check them out, if you haven't already.
+Mr Coatsworth I'm going to the rental store tonight. I will look for them there.
And he’s still releasing amazing movies. He really doesn’t miss
@@kennytaco4474 thanks for reminding me of this comment. It has aged well. Just bought Dune 2 on 4k. What a masterpiece!

What a sincere artist! He could not even deny the fact that he is a Canadian!
Episodes that I hope will happen and I look forward to watching them:
DP/30: Midnight Special, Jeff Nichols
DP/30: Everybody Wants Some, Richard Linklater
DP/30: The Hateful Eight, Quentin Tarantino (or any cast member)
What's yours?
+Martin T. I agree. A Martin Scorsese two-part episode would be great, just like the one DP/30 did with Ethan Hawke.
Amazing up and coming director. Reminds me of Nolan in the early 2000s
thank you so much for this interview ! So interesting!
Thank you so much!
GREAT interview!
Best director working today!
Sounds good, not a a big fan of chloe grace tho.
Corey Pack I just don't like her style of acting.
Sicario maybe the best action movie of last few years
Says he needs time after the next one...
Blade Runner 2047 comes out a year after Arrival.
And now he's already shooting Dune. The guy likes to play coy.
Genius Director! I hope he will keep following his own path instead of directing pictures that 'rich' producers want him to direct, because that seems to be a by product for a lot of great directors nowadays.
He has such an original voice in Hollywood, which is refreshing in a place where you can switch movies up and not know the difference.
I love Denis' work! Still haven't seen Sicario, but am dying to. "The next one"; gee I wonder what that is...
+hornick18 It's "Story of Your Life" with Amy Adams. ;‑)
Blade Runner sequel
+sairentuhiru
He shoot's Blade Runner 2 next. But his next movie to come out will be Story of Your Life. So that is Denis "next" movie.
well...the gauntlet has been laid down.
if he and deakins can make a great sequel to bladerunner ...my hat will officially be off. hoping for the best!
8:41 Great advice for not only filmmakers but for anyone in general. This is why his films are a cut above the rest
What agency is the character os Jeffrey Donovan (Steve Forsing), CIA or DEA?
does anyone know if there are manuscripts of these interviews?
Viva latinos
mmmmAAAANNNN!! This guy should've been in charge of the movies of the DC Universe instead of zack snyder.
Yeah. He would give it a 'darker' touch for sure:)
thanks for the video. the movie was horrible and waste of time.

+TRINZINI "Enemy" and "Incendies" both had wonderful scripts.
Lol no.
this man one of the best and underrated directors of his generation. i hope he's not too tired for bladerunner

+coby edwin Coogler.
They interviewed Coogler back when Frutivale Station came out.
