- Allergic Rhinitis is a common medical problem, and its incidence is increasing in our country.
Though seemingly a harmless disease it causes untold hardship to the patient, physical discomfort and personal misery as well as loss of work days on the days of an "Allergy attack".
Common symptoms of Allergic Rhinitis are sneezing, runny nose, nasal itching and redness, eye watering and itching.
The symptoms start off after exposure to an allergen. Exposure to an allergen releases Histamine which is responsible for most of the symptoms of allergy.
There are two common "Allergy Seasons" - Spring and Autumn - in India this is usually during the months of February - March and then October.
Common human allergens are House dust mite, dust, pollen, mould (Fungus), insects like cockroach, some food items (egg protein, yeast, gluten, lactose) etc.
The current forms of treatment for Allergic Rhinitis include avoidance, oral medication, nasal sprays and gels etc.
There was thought to be no "Cure".
However, with the advent of the new Immunotherapy/ Desensitization treatment, there is hope that some Allergy patients can be cured of their allergies.
This is how we proceed -
The patient presents to our Centre where after history taking a simple blood test including IgE estimation is done.
In case the IgE is elevated the patient is subjected to a 'Skin Prick Test' using many common allergens.
The skin prick test picks up some suspected allergens.
The patient is then treated using extracts of these allergens to cause a desensitization reaction to these chemicals.
Desensitization can be done in 2 ways
- SCIT - Subcutaneous Immunotherapy
- SLIT - sublingual Immunotherapy
the treatment is generally safe and used for a prolonged period - 2-3 years or so.
This causes the Allergic Rhinitis patient to be "Cured" of her allergies.

I have skin allergy (urticaria) since i was 2years old. I tried all medications, nothing helped. But when i was 19 years old i tried this therapy. They did all the procedures as mentioned in this video. After this my urticaria really got cured and since then i have never seen any urticaria on my skin (i am 22 years old now) But, after this therapy within 8 months i started having very bad sneezing (i never had this prblm before),later i got diagnosed with allergic rhinitis i.e., non stop sneezing, stuffy runny nose and it wouldn't go until i take anti allergic medicines. I still have allergic rhinitis, whenever out of nowhere I start sneezing i can't stop it until and unless i take an anti allergic tablet. So, i don't really know how i got allergic rhinitis but i think it must be a SIDE EFFECT of this therapy. This therapy didn't cure my allergy, it just shifted from skin to rhinitis. 😢

Hello sir , mujha ya puchna tha ki kya mild asthma wale logo ko bhi allergy rhinitis ho skta hai , In 2016 I was diagnosed with mild asthma but ya jo asthmatic symptoms hai wo mujha April me sabse jyada problem dete hai like breathing difficulties during night along with runny nose , irritation in eye and nose, baaki Pura saal me ek ya do baar breathing problem hoti hai but by the month of April it get worst 😷

Doctor i live in maharashtra. my ent has recommended me prothieden 25 and amexide H along with histafree and uprise d3 for allergic rhinitis. As i searched on internet i found out that amexide h and prothieden 25 are used for depression and anxiety disorders but i dont have any history of disorder as such.I asked her and found out that she believes that anxiety hormones even the slighest of normal person can trigger allergy. so should i continue this medicines or not.i tend to take your advice as you seem to be expert.

Hello sir I need suggestion i am suffering from runny nose and when I went to doctor he said that aapke nose ka padda teda hai or aapko allergy bhi hai after that I tested all allergy test (skin prickly test ) and I got positive I haven’t started immunotherapy yet but should I go for operation for nose parda 😅 or r should I do only immunotherapy ?
