This problem has haunted me for years, and no mechanic/speedometer repair shop in LA would attempt it. Thanks to you, I fixed it in a day. UPDATE: check engine light has stayed off after completing the drive cycles, and it now passes CA Smog testing. Cannot thank you enough.

Just wanted to say thank you for making this video, just resoldered my board tonight at work. I was so surprised at the lack of solder on those resistors, and one even had a crack in it. Will post again if it fixed my issue, cheers!
Edit: Left the house with 3/4 tank (which I know was BS), now it’s between half and a quarter which I believe is correct. Seems like it worked!

Thank you so much for this video. I didn't have a check engine light but the gas gauge was erradic once it got around 1/2 tank and would fluctuate between 3/4 and 1/2 and wouldn't really go below 1/2 tank.
I just did the repair and it doesn't fluctuate at all and is below 1/2 tank, so it seems to be fixed.
Thank you so much for posting this.

Thanks for the video. I’ve done plenty of residential plumbing soldering but never anything this tiny and delicate so it was a great comfort to be able to pause and repeat the steps.
I put too much flux down and freaked out when the whole chip went sideways but it all worked out with some extra solder…I’m laying off the flux nowadays.
I put the cluster back in and success! 🎉. Went to the gas station, filled up and set the gauge right. Thanks again!

After his battery conveniently losses power at 5:13, he continues with the panel off. Unfortunately, there are several more steps to perform and the removal isn't as easy as he wants you to believe. I had to watch a better video to continue. I think after he losses power to his camera, the more complicated steps happen.

Hate to break it to u but yeah it's just as easy as he wants u to believe, all u need is a lil bit of common sense and what do ya know!🤔 I mean he literally covered everything on getting it out B4 phone so conveniently died besides unplugging the plug that he was in the process of unplugging when it died, then simply squeezing the top and bottom tabs on the wiper switch and pull right off. Turn signal switch wasn't even as difficult as that considering didn't have a plug to unplug on it (not that it was all that difficult in the first place) and then u simply pull the cluster out. If the mirror plug hasn't been unplugged B4 hand, unplug it! Just incase anyone is having 2nd thoughts bc of his phone so conveniently dying lol🙄

Thanks for uploading this video! I just got an 06 G35 coupe and all the gauges seem to be off. I’m pretty sure the cluster is the problem because I used an obd2 scanner to look at the tachometer, speedometer, coolant temperature and gas gauge and they don’t match the cluster. Will doing this repair fix my problem?
Speedometer is off by 7-10 mph
    RPMS are off by 400-500
Coolant will stay at a quarter when warmed up
Gas gauge will be at half the line when empty
All the dash lights seem to be fine

    • @StingrayFPV
      @StingrayFPV  Год назад +2

All you need to do to fix the tach and speed is take the cover off and manually pull and replace needles until they match correctly. To fix the gas gauge. You need to do the entire solder repair.

    • @StingrayFPV

Pretty much you should leave the front cover off so that you can access the needles. When you refill you know it’s a full tank right? So pull off the needle and replace it pointing to full. Then as you go through more tanks keeps adjusting it until it is more accurate.

This video was super helpful but it didn't seem to work for me. My car is throwing a p0181, p0182, and p0462. I took my cluster apart to reflow the resistors and tried doing it myself but that didn't go well so I went somewhere local to get it done. After I put the cluster bag together the gauge would not budge and neither would the light. So after this I switched out the fuel sending unit and the fuel pump from another g35 that I have and that didn't work either. Is there anything I'm missing? $500 saved is $500 earned but I agree it might be worth the time and hassle saved to just pay for it. I opted to just get a refurbed unit.
Main issue I have with the replacement is you need to make sure the mileage is the same as what it's replacing. Only solution is to order it with a higher mileage then replace it once you hit that mark.
