"We will win the Champions League one day, if the players here stay" - Gerard's words turned out to be correct, many of the players who came through under him won the final in Istanbul. What a manager and what a person.
Sadly, Owen already left the team for Madrid whereas Liverpool finally won UCL in 2005. Very unlucky for Owen. Also, Gerard was no longer a manager for Liverpool in 2004-2005. He's been replaced by Rafa
It was his choice. He wasn't forced to leave.
@@DaveWallerLFC Can u really blame him for wanting to go to THAT Real Madrid side of Casillas, Bobby Carlos, Zidane, Figo, Raul and Ronaldo? I think not!
I understand why he thought that team was a better option but he didn't handle his departure that well from a Liverpool point of view, running down his contract, meaning we didn't get a fee that reflected his value. So I don't have sympathy that it didn't work out for him in terms of us winning the CL the following year. A feeling compounded by him joining Man Utd later, showing that he wasn't bothered about his Liverpool legacy.
Rafa won the CL with his tactics and signings like Alonso and Garcia and placing Carra at CB. The side Gerard created that season 2000/01 was a mirror of itself in 2004/05, it was rubbish really.
rip gerrard houllier you made our dreams come true.
I'm the second person to complete the gerrard houllier treble ever
On fifa 20 😋😋😋
But really that 2001 treble will foreverly remain the gerrard houllier treble
Rip houllier
Was close friends with Sir Alex Ferguson which shows what a true gentleman he was
man, I freaking love this club. What a season that was.
Rip houiler
The king of liverpool 2001⚰️😭
Man what a season this was, Emile Heskey was freaking power personified a lot of that season
True about Heskey. I've never seen any other player with his level of upper body strength.
He was so passionate about the club he even had a heart attack during a game! (We won the treble that season & qualified for the champions league I believe he was the beginning of the Liverpool football club that we see today we won a lot under the Frenchman.............but sadly he couldn’t make us into the powerhouse we see today but we did play some amazing football under him) L.F.C.4.LIFE❤️💯⚽️🏆🏆🏆🏆
Not a Liverpool fan but Gerard was a awesome manager.
Which one lol
@@fbl.editz6the one that managed liverpool you donut
As a Millwall fan that was fantastic LFC team so sad Gerard Houllier is no longer with us
A millwall fan with class a rare sight take care mate
Respect to you mate,..appreciate that comment.
I had this on VHS. watching again for the first time in 2 decades!!
Thank you for this, I have been searching for this season review VCD/DVD for years. really appreciate it
Charity shops might be your best bet for a hard copy. It's where I've got all mine from.
What a season this was winning the League Cup the FA Cup and the UEFA Cup (now the Europa league for younger viewers)
There was a Super Cup same calender year.
Also, UEFA Super Cup
@@ytgc-royalewarex5190 that was at the start of the 2001/02 season this is the 2000/01 season
No they won Super Cup 2001 against Bayern(UCL champions of the year) at the time
RIP Gérard Houllier a real gentleman. Former French teacher at Alsop High school an adopted scouser. A fantastic season, rode their luck a bit, didn't have the team to topple Man U especially the defence but still a great squad.
Thanks for the upload Dave and thanks for the memories Gerard x
Houllier never got enough credit for what he achieved as Liverpool manager he should be in the banner along with Shankly Paisley Fagan Kenny Rafa and Klopp
@@kieranr6435 Agreed, I'd love for the banner to be re-made for the return of fans to honour Gerard
Houllier built a brilliant team here, solid defence if not goalkeeper, balanced midfield and 4 brilliant strikers who were all different. It was his signings and some questionable decisions that stopped taking us to that next level.
Cheers Dave. I had the DVD originally and watched it many, many, many times! I was in my first year at uni this season and that run-in, in the spring, on the ale most days was absolutely glorious!!!
Thanks for posting Dave. I used to have this VHS; used to watch it constantly.
I Went to
PL: 3-2 City, 3-0 Charlton, 3-1 Spurs
FA: 3-0 Rotherham, 4-2 City, 4-2 Tranmere (Was also a Tranmere Season Ticket Holder that season too)
LC: 5-0 Palace
UC: 2-0 Porto, 1-0 Barca
I had the commemorative plate (but I think it broke), have a badge from the Roma games and a Pendant from UEFA Cup final that still hangs over my bed.
Wow you really are a fan sounds like you had a great time
One of the best years of my life
These era of LFC was underrated & very unlucky. Based on paper, I still think this LFC squad had much better side than the 04-05 one. Kinda like 2007 line up. It's a travesty how this LFC era couldn't win some CL trophy in early 2000s before the 04-05 season where they finally won, without Houlier, Owen, Heskey and Fowler. Nonetheless, the 2005 LFC got the better goalkeeper, Dudek, making the team went any further with the inferior line up on paper
Being a scout from LFC and finish your career over ere itself, that's called loyal heart & soul from a player for this club, such as Stevie G and Jamie Carra. If I miss some others, please mention wivout hesitation.
Amazing, really enjoyed the previous video. I was about to say have u got this season, and its popped up, thanks!
One of my favourite seasons as a fan and I’ve been a fan since 1975.
Ian Rush seasons wasn't much been appreciated from you??
Gerard was a class manager rest in peace legend
Brilliant this. By any chance do you have the season review for houlliers first season 98:99? Thanks dave
What a season that was. Thanks for sharing Dave. Great work. Any chance for season reviews 96-97, 97-98, 98-99. Thanks in advance.
Man I really miss Fowler and Gerrard
This Gerrard kid could go places
I had this on video as a kid. Watched it all the time haha
Good Liverpool side unfortunately went down the pan in 2003 , won the European cup in 2005, then Benitez produced a very good Liverpool team in 2008 and 9
Dave have you got any of the season reviews from 1993 to 1999? I've particularly wanted to see the FA Cup final journey in 1996 and the Cup Winners Cup in 1997.
I do, but some of those seasons were terrible and probably best forgotten.
@@DaveWallerLFC They may be dodgy but I still appreciate watching some of the old seasons. So if you could upload any of them soon I would much appreciate it.
@@DaveWallerLFC As would everyone else watching.
I became a Liverpool fan in 1999 but still interested in the good and not so good seasons before that. I enjoy football history and seeing the ups and downs over a long period. While Liverpool had many frustrating and disappointing seasons, those seasons are still better than what most clubs have.
People forget how good Danny Murphy goals were?????
We played games on the 19th and 21st August
Absolutely ridiculous
Fantastic treble winning season after the doldrums of the 90s.
Just a shame those Reebok kits were so horrible.
Footage blocked by some bureaucratic fartheads.
"Mickey mouse treble" my bottom!!! This was not an easy slew of trophies! YNWA
Tell me about it... thank god for youtube. Now I can defend my team with confidence
Yeah, we actually had two seasons were we won three trophies, but United fans say they don't count, well, they would have been more than delighted to have won three trophies during their lean years.
No disrespect to these lfc generation but I still think the 1983/84 LFC was a better treble achievement as they won European cup(UCL), League cup & 1st division league title(EPL's predecessor). To think the 83-84 was the first treble in LFC history before this one but easily forgotten, under appreciated & overshadowed by this 2000/01 season histories..😐
Obviously.
Allez
Allez
Gerard Houllier
Houllier's reign turned sour after 2002, he made some horrible errors in the transfer market and his judgement was off, who starts Biscan at centre back alongside Hyypia ahead of Carragher if Henchoz was injured?. He basically destroyed his own creation with terrible signings post 2002. He should have sacked for signing Diouf and not Anelka. Sold Ziege, Barmby, Berger, Fowler and we ended up with Cheyrou, Diao and Diouf. Initially I think Heskey was a poor signings as well for £11 million in 2000, which would be something like 60-70 million today and his average in the league was 6 goals per season.
Maybe cut him some slack for what happened after 2002 given that he nearly died in 2001 and came back to work much too quickly after that. Heskey was great in 2000/01 season but sadly coudn't maintain that level.
@@DaveWallerLFC I will forever be fond of him and grateful for the fact that he brought professionalism back and European success to the club after the party boy era. It's just a shame that he thought after 2002 he had to make so many any changes to a side that didn't need much repair, he could have carried on with the same side with a few more signings here and there. If we only signed Anelka and Duff and kept a hold of Fowler and Berger for a couple of more seasons, even Barmby as well.
The players we had in 00/01 should have been the basis for a title winning side
The names we had like
Babbel , hyypia, henchoz - Murphy and barmby and Gary Mac were in great form ,ziege was demonised a bit for the Leeds 4-3 game , hamann , gerrard, Owen , fowler
Smicer had improved from a dodgy season the season before
But his lack of faith in litmanen and not playing him as an Attacking midfielder was baffling
As was not signing anelka
He made bad errors in 2002 as we all know
Its arguable that he would of won the champions league and kept owen. Top manager ❤
That Roma ref was dodgy hahaha what was he doing for that pen
Hi... I've just found this channel and I look forward to looking through everything. Is there any chance you have the full season reviews from 96/97 97/98 and if there was one 98/99? I have the first two on VCR but no way to play them, and have never had the third in any form. I'm desperate to watch through every season I've been supporting the club back to back... so if you could help with these three seasons I would be forever grateful. Thankyou (if not, having 99/00 has got me a quarter of the way to ticking off the ones I need!)
Hi Martyn. I do have those 3 videos, but no plans to upload them at the moment. The 98/99 video was a shambles, in keeping with the quality of that season, from memory. You can get them all on DVD from this website footballontap.webs.com/seasonreviews.htm (the website is nothing to do with me, but I've used it many times and it's great).
@@DaveWallerLFC This is a massive help thanks! I didn't even know the 98/99 one was released! Just over a tenner for the 3 is a bargain, thankyou
No problem. I can't imagine many people bought the 98/99 one. I think I got it cheap on ebay.
Heskeys best season of his career this unplayable at times
Why did the PL block certain goals? That's weird.
Any idea why the Southampton goal footage was blocked?
No. It seems fairly random what's blocked and what isn't.
Unpopular opinion: 2000-2003 Liverpool is better than 2007-14 one that had Torres and also the one that had Suarez
i actually agree with you
Some teams Liverpool beat in this video are they still in the Football League
Why was one of the goals against Southampton blocked by the prem?
I have no idea. It seems to be random.
@@DaveWallerLFC I remember the goal I had it on video. He doesn't swear or so a gesture 🤷♂️🤷♂️
It's copyright not censorship.
I wasn't aware Robbie Fowler is regarded as the God of football in England.
10:45 Michael Owen assist 🔥
thanks dave
R.I.P. gaffer, thanks for some amazing memories
Great season ,but no prem for nearly 2 decades! 😢
Brilliant Dave
Thanks. I hope everyone isn't too disappointed by the amount of games I had to remove due to copyright restrictions when they've finished watching.
Emile Hesky was some player.
Kind of weird seeing Prince Andrew shaking the players hands
Motson hated us as much as Tyler.
Houlier was unlucky that Liverpool didn’t have much money to buy best player at that time
Footage of this comment has been blocked by The Premier League
which footage was removed? still excellent. (okay the UEFA cup final part was removed I see)
If you watch the video, there are captions where footage has been removed.
if Gerrard holier had the money man utd had liverpool would've dominated the league
Do you think you’ll be able to get your head down and get on with it😂😂😂. Reporter to Nick barnby
Could of easily won the league that season if not for the shite dropped points but a great season nonetheless
1:01:26 Me every morning!
"The" Treble? 😂😂😂
You're right, "the" implies it's the only time we've won 3 trophies in a season, so that's not very accurate. ;-)
Not in the same class as Rafa & J K. A good manager , not a great manager.
I think that's harsh. The improvement from his first season to 2001/02 was immense. I believe there's every chance he could have won the league or European Cup if he hadn't had his heart problems.
A great season after a rubbish nineties
9:27 HAALAND
man u/fa never won this treble,man u/fa 0 5 Liverpool. Amen.
A time when every club had unique kits... now everything is copy paste, just different colours... and unimaginative.
