You are an excellent teacher/explainer - well done! Best parts of your video: (1) You got right to the point - no time wasted on driving to a location, walking through the woods, etc ; (2) Nice and appropriate balance of you talking and showing examples in your photographs; (3) Clearly explaining not only the "what" but the WHY - which is even more important.
Great advice...especially for the landscape. I love the “find your forground first and make sure it has a great back ground”.... I never thought of the forground aspect. So thank you
I'm beginning at photography and got an UWA with the DSLR I bought second hand. I was looking for some ideas to take the best of it, or sell it if I didn't find inspiration, but you so much ABSOLUTELY NAILED this video that it really gave me the will to explore this lens as much as I can. Fantastic video, hats off to you !
Wow, okay. I learned more from a 9 minute video than from the entire two books I just read about "landscape photography" and "portrait photography". I know it's an older video and you don't realy upload as much but still, thank you!
Thank you so much for this video !!! I have just gotten my Sigma 10-20mm and, now, I am quite sure that I will embrace it for my passion: landscape & architecture photos. See ya, blue skies
This video is really great 👍 I just bought wide angle lens so I appreciate all the info . Very informative and very useful. I did not know how they really work but I do know . Thank you 😊
Thank you for an outstanding video lesson. I just started taking classes and I love landscapes and Ansel Adams. You were right to the point and not confusing. Getting ready to purchase Canon Wide Angle/Zoom 10mm-18mm and now I am very excited about the possibilities. I subscribed.
Damn, that was informative af. I've been taking photographs for some years now and I have rarely come across a video this concise and loaded with good info
Thank you for the video and the information. I did find the music distracting too as others pointed out and struggled to follow what you were saying. Also I'd recommend finding a room without an echo or invest in some sound proofing blankets that can be removed after you finish shooting. The echo made things worse. I hope you find this feedback somehow useful.
Thanks again for this video...I now have a 12-24mm lens to go along with a 24-70mm lens, and I find them both useful for my street shots! : Again, thank you
thank you so much for this! just bought my 1st wide angle lens (11mm - 22mm on aps c) not realising i'd have to learn all that! :-) (i won't mention the audio & the music, as they've been well covered already! :-D )
Great video. As said before I would remove or strongly attenuate the music in the background. Tips are clear, you go straight to the point and I love it. Keep doing great work !
I liked this video a lot. A little bit of critique: The distortion that you're getting from your wide angle shots due to being closer to the subject, not because the shot was on a wide angle lens. This is called perspective distortion and is not to be confused with optical distortion. The closer you physically get to any object with any lens, the larger it becomes relative to the background. Therefore, there is no difference between cropping a shot from a wide lens and a shot from a mid-range or telephoto lens (assuming there is no optical distortion). The distortions at the edges of your frame, on the other hand, ARE optical distortions and should not be confused with the distortion that you see when you get physically close to your subjects. Here's a good read all about the subject: photographylife.com/does-focal-length-distort-subjects
Thanks so much for the video! I'm just seraching for a wide angle lens to experiment and get more creative than with a zoom lens. I happen to have a Nikon D5500, so I'm interested in the Sigma 10-20 f3.5. Again, thanks for taking your time to explain it to well!
A very useful explanation. I've noticed that shallow DOF is not important in these kind of photos so you don't really need a very expensive 1.4 lens for wide angle shots. Too bad I saw your video too late and already bought the canon 24mm 1.4. Thanks a lot and as was mentioned by others, you're a great teacher.
I liked your video! It has shown me an aspect of wide lenses I had not considered. I have used it without the foreground and I also think your pictures look better that way.
Can someone explain to me were the foreground is on the pic at 6:59? Cause to me it looks like there isn’t a foreground and everything on the pic looks good
Totally agree with needing a strong foreground in w/a photography... I do like a very distinctive F/G subject. I don't like using a w/a lens just because I want to include more side to side imagery. My solution to only having a w/a lens on my camera is to carry a pair of cameras with different focal length lenses...
Thanks for the video , very informative I was able to put it all together they things that were questionable about my 10-20mm lense excited about using it now
Very interesting. Very informative. I have been following the steps you said in the video for many years. It really works. I just want to know, If I have a 24mmwide-angle Sigma Art lense, should I go for another wide angle lens such as 16mm? Will it be useful?
Thanks for the info's i noticed that most of your pictures are from Calgary it's so nice to live here near the Rockies and same time nice architectural structures in downtown south.by the way any advice what brand would be best for a wide angle lens on my nikon d7200 TIA..
I just bought a nikon d3400 with both the 18-55 and the 70-300 lenses.... and I'm going on an Alaskan cruise.... i know those lenses are good for skme things... but with all the beautiful landscapes there, I'm sure i might need a wide angle lens.... can you reccomend one i can use from the boat and still get those beautiful shots?? Please help
Thanks for this Video Motherpixels 👍🏽 // I watch a lot of RUclips videos on tips on how to use certain lenses, and sometimes the details shared on the video get lost in translation. This video is simple, impactful and photos to support. Great job!
So nice to see a RUclipsr talking about photography and not using 5000$ equipment. A decent camera body and lens is enough if you know what you're doing!
Great video, lots of VERY useful information - thank you! If I may make one suggestion though...perhaps leave the music out or at least choose quieter music without lyrics. It can be a little distracting to your message (which is awesome 😊)
A wide angle lens only distorts if you get up close. Move back and take a photo of a person with a wide angle lens, then crop the photo. You will see no distortion.
One of the best videos on how to use a wide angle lens on RUclips.

This video just popped up as a suggestion and I must say you are a really good teacher. Thank you.

Thank you for the video and the information. I did find the music distracting too as others pointed out and struggled to follow what you were saying. One of the best videos on wide angles I've seen on RUclips.
Great video. Stumbled upon this video by accident and wahlah excellent explanation of how to use wide angle lens. Thank you!
The is the best video explanation I’ve seen on Wide angle lens.
A very good video! The only thing that I would change would be to not have the background music which is distracting from your message.
Jim Frederich same. Couldn’t finish the video.
I actually liked the background music. A matter of taste I suppose...
Finally a background music that didn't wreck my nerves. I liked it too. And contentwise - just *great* .
Jim Frederich
Agree, do something with that music¡¡ is annoying¡
An excellent teaching video. The best I’ve found. Much appreciated! I’m going to take the plunge and buy one.

Exepional video. Very informative.
Superb explanation for a beginner like me. Thank you and subbed 😘
Great video. Thanks!
Great advise! I wish I'd seen this year's ago.
Great video. Very usefull.
What would you consider wide. I’m looking into 16-35 f2.8 Sony and using 35 end for street / portrait.
I found this video super helpful, thank you!
What is the range of what is considered wide angel?
Nicely presented - great information!!!
Very nice video! Instant subscribed
Great tips. Fabulously organized video. Background music was a bit much, but the lesson was very helpful!
A wide angle lens only distorts if you get up close. Move back and take a photo of a person with a wide angle lens, then crop the photo. You will see no distortion.
You might get away with it but depends what you call wide angle. I consistently use the 16-35.
Thanks for that tip!
Great tips! Also: focus stacking! That'll keep the subject AND the background in tack-sharp focus!
great video, very informative
