    The plug change helped alot. Still seems off though. I would do this if it were my truck, 1) check firing order, 2) check/replace rotor and cap, 3) check timing and, 4) check for vacuum leaks. I think you may have issues in a few of those departments. Good luck!

    The plugs are fine for your setup much more important for a nitrous or boosted app.
    I would start with these items as they are free fast and easy to do
    Idles way to fast check for vacuum leaks spray carb cleaner all around the intake manifold one spot at a time see if it changes if not lower the idle
    Check timing I would look for around 36 degrees total as a staring point
    Next just for covering my bases let it run with the lights in the shop turned off and look for little lightning bolts around the plug wires to make sure they are good
    Might cost a new gasket but
    Fix the exhaust leak it will help when listing to it so we can help diagnosis it
    Finally I would put a vacuum gage on it and adjust the mixture screws

    • @lanaetuck9796
      @lanaetuck9796 Месяц назад +1

      I agree with everything you just said as well as the firing order might be off as well. The best way to find a vacuum leak is to spray carb cleaner around the carb and vacuum lines. Hopefully he has a timing light to help him get it timed correctly. You can get it close by ear once he gets everything else straightened out.

    spark plug heat wont matter much until you do a power adder.. it needs some timing adjustments for sure, and carb could use adjustment those will help with the crispness of the throttle.. also it sounds like the seller wasnt truthful on the big cam cause that thing has no lope at all.. i would ditch all that accel stuff asap.. stock is better than that garbage.. another thing, you might check for a vacuum advance on that distributor and make sure its hooked up to the carb... vacuum leaks can really be a pain

    There's no telling what kinda mismatched parts are in the motor.
    Especially a 377 build.
    Strip the topend
    Check your springs and lash.
    Then buy new wires and plugs.
    Distributor is next.
    Also look at going over the carb
    It looks like a performer.

    Check the firing order and get someone to come over with a timing light make sure there's no intake or vacuum leaks by spraying carb cleaner or starting fluid around the intake and bottom of the carb if it revs up there is a leak. a leak will cause the rpm to stay higher and it won't idle right might check the idle screw they may have had it turned up to break in the fresh build maybe and also make sure it's not running on the accelerator pump at idle you need a carb friendly buddy to come help tinker and work out the bugs. The channel will do great need a little longer videos and stay persistent shoot for 2 15 to 20 min videos a week it will be slow for a few months but stay at it and you will take off on here great job man love the truck there's a good following with the square bodies hang in there.

    Probably already got mentioned. However I suggest firing order (yep, from me too 😂), check out the spark plug wires, the condition and they looked loose, make sure they don’t ground out on your headers and melt isolation +maybe organise them. Get yourself a timing light. Maybe also take a look inside the distributor cap for moisture and corrosion.
    Excited to see the progress here! 🤓

    I would honestly put a new starter in it you could check the ground wire on the starter also!! Tighten the header back up but first make sure your gasket is lined up that’ll get rid of the popping and make sure your wires are in the right spot that’s the biggest thing the firing order is 1,8,4,3,6,5,7,2 search a 70s 350 cap and see which point is for each number and hook your wires up accordingly that should help a lot and put new gas in the tank and a new fuel filter in it that’ll do a lot
    Also the odds going from front to back by fire wall are on driver side and same for evens on passenger side

    Well, it's skipping and either you have a cut wire and the spark is jumping around. Or, you have a manifold/ header leak. Or, both? Idk?? I would clean the plugs and look at the wires, all wiring and see if you have a fraid wire somewhere. That's what I would start with. If those wires are the ones that you have to make. Then, that might be the skipping issue. Also, if the motor has a lot of carbon built up. Then run some Barion B-12 in the tank and in the carburetor when it's running. Or you can do that with transmission fluid. It's going to smoke, but it will help.

  • @ethanbailey4382
    @ethanbailey4382 Месяц назад

    Roller rockers are better for high RPM and higher lift camshafts. You should research about heat range for spark plugs. The r44 you got is a cooler plug so it helps prevent premature detonation on higher compression engines. Your idle also sounds high which would mean you won’t hear the lope of the cam as much. Check for vacuum leaks you can spray brake clean around the base of the carburetor and where the intake gaskets are if the rpm changes you have a leak. that could cause your higher idle. One thing is you should get some new gas that will help your throttle response as well. You should get a timing light and as long as your balancer has degree marks you can set your timing. One thing I do when I set mine I advance my distributor (rotate it towards the number 1 cylinder) until the engine cranks kind of hard. I back it off a little bit till smooth easy cranking get it running and check with a timing light. 8-12 degrees initial timing is pretty good for a small block Chevy.

    shouldnt put oils etc..into cylinders then put the plugs back in, it could cause petrol lock and bend a rod...i would put a splash of marvels into the fuel and change the oil,and put some in the oil(maybe run 5w20 oil in it with the marvels)drive a few tanks of gas through the engine,hen change the oil again and put maybe 10w40 in it or 20w50 depending on pressure.the driving and heat cycling is what it probably needs to get the arthritis out of it, and rehydrate gaskets and stuff....also if you are feeling like it pop the valve covers off and soak the valve train down with wd40 letting it work down into the valve guides and dissolve varnish the may be sticking valves causing the puffing

    Watched both videos. 1) It’s not an 82. 2) The tick on this video is an exhaust leak. Likely from the header gasket. 3) If your firing order is correct, be sure the timing is. 4) With a built engine and unknown specs, this is going to take a lot more work tuning than what your skill set seems to be at this point. Once it’s running halfway decent, I’d have someone that knows what they’re doing with timing and carb jetting to tune it before you either blow it up by running too lean, or wash out cylinders by running too rich. That’s also why it doesn’t have the chop you were expecting. It’s idling too high to hear it.
