I worked for Music and Talent for MTV Latin America and worked on this show. I remember that I suggested we book them, nobody knew who they were but we went ahead and booked them. That performance at the Jackie Gleason Theatre now known as the Fillmore Miami Beach was one of the most amazing moments of my life. Everyone was blown away. What was so special is that Cedric lost his grandmother that day and had to take off immediately to El Paso after this performance. He was in a lot of pain. He brought the house down at the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards Latin America.
Men this moment is criminally unsung as one of the best and most iconic rock performances of all time, and the zack words at the beginning makes it even more powerfull omg
@@Pre1321 The 2001-2004 era Volta aint about that. It was all about raw emotion for omar and cedric rather than musicianship, so don't expect a controlled and precise performance from this era. Go to 2005-2007 volta for that.
"Una banda que esta mas interesada en crear momentos que en crear hits, esta es esa banda y este el momento" que gran introducción de Zach de la Rocha.
King Dingus i'd even say singing is harder (i am keyboarder, guitarist and bassist) since the voice can be totally different from day to day and householding your breathe is building tone is much more complex than on an instrument where you buy the right stuff and build technique that will always apply. The good thing is as a singer you usually don't need to be very expertised eith theory. Basic modal theory is sufficient.
eblb: Uhm, vocals is kind of an instrument, it creates melody to the song. And a good singer know how to sing with guitar melody, bass, and drum rhythm, to make it all "one". Cedric does that, in a band that plays very complex music. So yeah, the dude is very talented musician who understands the music and band. And on top of that, knows how to be a frontman.
Both Cedric and Omar have been this way since ATD-I. It's what makes them such a fucking awesome band live. Never know what you're gonna get. Omar could start tap dancing on his guitar, Cedric wears your glasses as facial hair. It won't be boring.
I love Cedric's antics in this one, but imagine being the guy in the crowd. Some crazy looking dude you've never heard of, probably on drugs, plays this intense psychedelic, latin rock music, jumps in the crowd, kicks your date in the face, screaming about Lash of 1000 eyebrows clipping in your face, steals your glasses and chucks them in the crowd. I wouldn't know how to respond either.
Vector Ruse Dude, chill. Is anyone here being rude to each other? NO, just You. You can make up your point without having to add up negativity to it. And thanks for the correction, Punk, Rock and Roll, music... a music show like this kind should be fun, period.
+Blake Jones there's no negativity unless you get offended, im just saying if you're sensitive to things like what you see from the performance, then your a puritan (which there's nothing wrong with) you are what you are.
Vector Ruse How You think people should take that You call them puritans with no reason? Ok, at least when You explain it that way, sounds great. I love that performance. Peace and love.
I don’t think he is underrated the guy has been on the cover of Modern Drummer 3 Times, was rated #88 best drummer last year and if Dave Grohl says,”That Guy really blows me away,” and if “Jon is considered a modern day super drummer,” says Rollins Stone then you aren’t underrated. I had the pleasure of watch him play 2 1/2 hours at Bonaroo. He is a freaking Android. He arms were moving so fast at one point it was like I watching and old film with a low frame rate.
That was actually some of the most punk sh*t I've ever seen. Cedric just straight up took some expensive looking glasses and tossed them into the pit. With no fks given. A real Robin Hood moment lol I love Cedric.
I'm pretty new to TMV, but I really miss the backing vocals in this track. I think it just completes the epic chorus and is kind of an answere to the "is anybody there?" - still great live performance :D

when you expose yourself to this band a lot you can get numb to all their antics so you kind of need to step back and really appreciate how much insane crazy shit is going on and how intensely creative they are. best fucking band in the world
I remember catching this live when I was 14 and having my mind thoughroughly blown. I love these early Mars Volta performances with their At The Drive-in antics

Thank you, searching for this for 9 years. I turned this on right when Cedric ran into the crowd & snatched dude's shades, ha. Wonder if he got them back but bro had a hell of a story to tell.
@MrThoughtsfortoday They were the best performance of the night, and performances like this make you want to see them live. Some people prefer bands that sound just like the album while standing like statues on stage. I happen to love the chaotic energy that At The Drive-In and The Mars Volta provided, and so do many other people.
I absolutely love The Mars Volta, but I can't help feeling disappointed every time I hear one of their live performances. Aside from that they are total geniuses and their records are ace.
I fucking love this whole thing. De La Roca- "Here's a band that stands up for immigrants". The Mars Volta- Proceeds to play the craziest nonsensical shit you've ever heard about pig-smothered cries, rowing sheep smiling for the dead and the lash of 1000 eyebrows clicking while the singer steps on everybodys' faces and steals a dude's sunglasses. WTF. One of the greatest things ever to exist. De La Roca clearly thought he was introducing At The Drive-In.
These guys are just unfucking real!!!!! Hoping to see them in Daytone Beach this May!! I’m only 21 years overdue seeing them live but have loved them since this live performance!!
@FZmustacheFZ It's from the Latin Video Music Awards that originally aired live on MTV2. This particular video is taken from the re-airing of it on MTV. The MTV version was edited and used different camera angles from the original MTV2 airing.

Omar and Cedric's musicianship is always noted but let's mention their showmanship. It's like James Brown and Carlos Santana's youth.
You lost credit at Cedric's musicianship.
