One thing I must say about the Qing dynasty, is that they really prioritised order. Even the emperor's powers during this time was restricted in a way by their customs. Thank you for today's lesson.
If we compared Chinese dynasty, Qing is very structured in terms of order and policy, many small things that Chinese have today's is actually perfected in Qing.
I can’t imagine the emperor tolerating a eunuch making him kick out the consort if he really wanted her to stay. Maybe he just knew the rules and so abided by them, but it must have been frustrating to the emperor.
damn, even the emperor couldn't have his emotional needs met... poor guy wanted to cuddle at night, and the eunuch's all like "TIME TO FINISH" like.. brah... that's why emperor acts like a jerk, he cant emotionally connect.
Very informative vdo! In TV dramas, we see the emperors stay with the consorts in thier residents and stay whole night! Thanks for clarify all of things. Keep doing your good work!👍🏻
So Hailan being burritoed didn't happened in real history. That's ashame. For some reason, actresses who played consorts in Ruyi's Royal Love have a chance to have a sleeping scene or simply have 1 on 1 time with Wallace Huo as Emperor Qianlong. 😆 If you are happened to be the Consort, I am sure, you're gonna melt like ice cream because Wallace Huo's handsomeness and you are asked to sit on his lap is too much to handle. 😆 There was one funny behind the scene where A'Ruo and Souxin is admiring at Wallace Huo as Qianlong from a distance.
Thank you for doing this video. It was very informative and I loved the information given. I would have loved to have seen this portrayed in some Qing dynasty dramas. This was more interesting than the fictional takes of how the Emperor choose the woman he wanted to sleep with
I’m so grateful for your channel & incredibly informative videos. Thank you 😊 Do you have any audiobook recommendations , that we can listen to, to learn more about Ancient Chinese history, specifically the Qing dynasty ? Thank you for your guidance . 😊
Really informative video and your pronunciation is really good! Thanks for sharing. I do think conflict did occur though, but probably much more psychological and catty versus outright violent and murderous as shown in dramas.
Dear Bing, thank you very much for this very informative video! I have a question: in more ordinary families, the relationship between husband, legal wife and concubines was also like this? Were there other rules? Thank you Bing, I love watching your videos!
Thank you for explaining how the emperor choose which concubine to favor at night. Would you be kind enough to make a video on what the women needed to do to sleep with the emperor. I have been meaning to ask if is there that explains why couples can't sleep with each other while they are in mourning. What about if a baby is born while in mourning?? From my brief understanding of ancient western times if a baby was born in that time i believe the mourning might be lifted but i could be wrong amd alo vary depending on the era, country and cultures.
Thank god the woman wrapped up like a burrito is made up 🤣🤣 Which fiction author came up with that idea anyway because I have a lot of questions for you 😂
There had to be catty behavior between the women. It's human nature. Noway would a dozen woman who a shared one husband..not fight. I agree the TV dramas may have been far fetched. But noway in hell did a dozen wives live together in the same city and get along peacefully. Lol
However, this is not the case in all polygamous settings. In documentaries about polygamous cultures, e.g. the Masai, the relationships between the women usually is harmonious. In my own country in South-America, Maroons, AfricanCaribbean people living in the forest, still have polygamy. The wife's have their own house in their birth village. The man lives in his own village. The man has specific tasks, and a list of things and services he has to provide each of his wives with. If he is a lousy husband, other women in his wives villages will scold him, and make his life as miserable as they possibly can, to protect their "sister" from emotional and fysical abuse. I once was witness to the bullying and threatening of a "lousy" husband by all women in his 3rd wife's village. The most sensible men decide to marry only one wife. Four women is hard work for the man, and I'm not talking here about the sexual component. Sometimes, when a shortage of women occurs, several men may share one woman.
@@realmofthesenses I remember learning in my anthropology class in uni that it is rare for a society be polyandry (multiple men) but it does happen. Usually societies have more women to men, so polygynany (multiple women)
@@mgold7503 I only know from documentaries that a few original poly-androus (1 woman, more than 1 husband) cultures still exist, mostly in Asia I believe (but not sure). In my Southamerican country of origin "polyandry" was a temporary solution among migrant-societies with a vast majority of maleworkers, and a very small minority of women of the same ethnicity. Either that (temporary polyandry), or mixing/marrying with women of other ethnicities, like a lot of Chinese migrant-workers like my own grandfather did. These Chinese men could very well already have had wife and children in China, and lots of them, but not all, eventually migrated back to China, to their clan and their first wife family. It was not unusual for them to take with them their mixed-race sons, although there are cases they also took their daughters back to China with them. I also know that in some societies girls and women were (are) seriously looked down on, so it was (is) not at all unusual to kill abort baby girls. In that case, an unnatural imbalance between male/female population grows, as in wartime or genocide oriented at the male population,
If this is the case , no wonder Step Empress went crazy, having to constantly sign ( agree) to her husband constantly choosing a specific consort over and over, obviously she has something about her more special than the rest and Qianlong is described as being a tall and very handsome man in real history, it’s so sad that the women chosen for emperors in Qing dynasty were mostly not good looking because of their rule about beautiful women could cause distraction for the emperors and most high official daughters were actually not very good looking at all, based on the women in the 1800s real pictures, I actually feel bad for the emperors for mostly forcing themselves to be with someone they weren’t really attracted to just for political reasons 😢 and these girls being forced to be bound to a unloved lifelong relationship. So happy we’ve evolved and have the freedom to be with whomever we choose as humans.
Blood test truly existed in history, actually this test is commonly used in ancient time. You can know it from below video: ruclips.net/video/GjfiQbN9IiA/видео.html
Thanks to cover up the Myth of the red Blanket and carry to the Emperor. THat was telling in Germany, too, but that was a little bit to strang for me🤨. Ok, perhas a good Bad and then up in the Bed of the Emeror. These help me cause I have been sucked into Chinese drama like li haolan and ruyi ect. Does anyone have suggestions for a show. I hate moder stories so I don't watch shows about modern times.
Chinese language has a range of at least 4 tones (Mandarin) to 16 tones (Kantonese). English is a foreign language to her, and there is no clear "tone" structure that is easy to learn, as in Chinese. The lady presenter Bing's spoken words and sentences will not sound as flat in her own native language.
It’s quite obvious that Bing didn’t grow up speaking fluent English but her research and interesting content more than makes up for that. Perhaps learn how to assess situations before you start running your mouth which reflects poorly on no one else but yourself. Bye Felecia!

I heard somewhere that Kangxi would circumvent the rules by staying longer in the Summer Palace. (Yuanming Garden?) Is this fact?
This video is so interesting! There is just something so intriguing about this seemingly secretive ancient inner society.
Thank you so much for your videos! They are very informative and interesting! I look forward to your videos 💗
Thank you for informing us about the real history.
Where there are humans there is competition. Maybe not as bad as previous dynasties, but we see how Qing dynasty ended😬

I want a TV series drama that depicts the imperial harem more like this.
1:21 - Did Guangxu's Express (Jing fen) agree to allow Guangxu to spend so much time with Consort Zhen at the time?

Meanwhile in England: the king beheads his queens left and right
That was only one English king lol
When I watch some of the dramas, I figure those who write the screenplays add something to a story to keep your attention while watching.
Very interesting video, thank you!!
Yay! Thank you!
So many rules and restrictions… lol
Also, that blood fusion test they do is only for tv right? I doubt it’s an accurate bloodline test…
