Iwatani Naofumi, a run-of-the-mill otaku, finds a book in the library that summons him to another world. He is tasked with joining the sword, spear, and bow as one of the Four Cardinal Heroes and fighting the Waves of Catastrophe as the Shield Hero.
Excited by the prospect of a grand adventure, Naofumi sets off with his party. However, merely a few days later, he is betrayed and loses all his money, dignity, and respect. Unable to trust anyone anymore, he employs a slave named Raphtalia and takes on the Waves and the world.
But will he really find a way to overturn this desperate situation?

If you watched the episode where motoyasu attacked Naofumi in the town square in season 1 he stated that filo reminded him of an angel character named freyon from hell world I recently learned that freyon was a reference to Flonne in disgaea Flonne has the same design as filo

Filo is such a pure soul. Not only is her singing beautiful, she does it to help all the people caught up in that mess at the tavern, and even offered some food to the spear-moron (despite clearly hating him) in a genuine attempt to be nice.

After reading this in the LN, I have been wondering how it would be animated. I was hoping Naofumi's inner thoughts on Filo's singing which reminded him of an old anime with an idol and shapeshifting fighter planes would be included. Definitely a SDF: Macross reference. Although, FIlo's idol performance is more in tune with current anime idols. Sadeena's seiyu also voicing a Macross: Delta idol just makes this nicely meta.
I couldn't be happier with how this scene was translated into the anime, they really dialed it up to 11 with the filo fanservice for motoyasu.
Filo has learned a new ultimate technique: Moe Moe Kyun Beam.
Filo’s singing can definitely cheer anyone up and the way she was trying to help the spear guy was adorable.

Pros: we finally recruited the spear hero and he won't mess with us anymore....
Cons(and price of recruitment): that man only desires filo as his wife to the point he actually calls naofumi "father", willing to follow his every command a little TOO well (even Naofumi didn't wish to be called filo's parent in this manner...oh the headaches he will endure because of this will be hilarious). Oh and also he turned into naofumi 2.0 when not trusting women not named filo. That will be FUN.

We somehow all forgot that Motoyasu was also a nerd at one point in his previous wolrd
Even tho the spear hero was annoying and terrible back then. One thing I can say is that he’s actually a broken character who fell after being betrayed and this episode made me realize that the same depression and loneliness he felt was me when I had lost everything… one thing in common I had with him is that we ended up fighting and finding someone to cheer us on. Note that filo actually ends up changing his character entirely but one thing I will always remember is that we all find ourselves surrounded by poisonous creatures but out of those creatures one can never know what to expect into we are all saved by the one who knows how much suffering we felt! Another character is the sword hero and this episode that came out finally came out with his backstory and how his comrades died! Another character that I could relate with not just the shield hero but each of the hero’s, more exactly know and understand how hard and hurt it was to accept and live in a world without people you once adore and cared deeply about. The sword hero didn’t want to admit the pain and guilt he was carrying all by himself and the betrayal and abandonment only brought grief and confusion onto him. He needed to find someone who followed and could read what he was feeling by the bestest they were good at. Each hero holds and encounters in each state and name heart breaking, sadness and emotions you can think! This is one of the reasons why I actually started liking the rest of the hero’s because we finally got to understand who they are and what they’ve become and lost along the way since learning, finding and seeing what made, brought and destroyed their development as a person!
