In Russian "meatball" (котлетка) is not actually an insult, it's a way of teasing someone (I suppose, in other Slavic languages it also can be). I call my cat a meatball, for example. Maybe the author heard it from Russians and tried to add it to Lukov's vocabulary to "make him more Russian"?
I dnfed from lukov with love within 50 pages, so I'm glad to see I didn't miss out on much. I'm really into figure skating and really enjoy a lot of pairs skaters (Sui/Han are the best!), so I really noticed any minor errors from the author. Although other things were kind of funny, I think the author was trying to avoid a copyright claim from the International Skating Union so changed a bunch of the competition names which was kind of amusing.
By the way, if your ever looking to try watching more skating, there's a new Canadian pair team who are doing really well at the moment. The woman of the pair Deanna Stellato-Dudek's story is something out of a sports novel. She retired in 2001 due to injury, having won world junior silver and Junior Grand Prix Final (the real version of the Major Grand Prix Final) gold. And then 15 years later decided to come back but as a pairs skater. So far she and her partner have won Canadian Nationals (despite her being ill during it) and several other events.
A reading vlog with Emmie sounds like a perfect Sunday to me! 😊
🌞🌞
This is a blessed time to have you uploading so much 😭 I could never expect this much videos like every week but I’m very grateful
Awe so glad Isabel💙 I’ll try to keep them coming!
That pink nose! Those pink paws! Those green eyes! That stretch! Serotonin levels restored.
Thank you Emma :)
Can we just take a moment to appreciate how perfect the Alice-pitching-move was?! Like what😍
That and the icicle weapon pose were the highlights of the video 😍
I struggle with most romance not clicking with me so I think this month I will focus on Black History reads, but I still enjoy your videos no matter what you read. I started reading a book about Canada’s Black sleeping car porters called They Call Me George by Cecil Foster. So far it’s really interesting, and something so important that I totally didn’t learn about in school.
I'm so glad you speak so openly about mental health. It's not a weakness to seek help.
Calcifer needs his own social media! ❤
I had a book ..it was titled 'how to make your cat an internet star'
I am going to finish The Ice Palace in an hour and return to this video. Thank you for the recommendation, Emma!
Ah cannot wait to hear your thoughts👀
@@emmiereads Aaahhhh!! It was so good! It was heartbreaking. I keep thinking about it. I didn’t want it to end and I took my time finishing the last part. The first thing that struck me about the writing was how I had forgotten what it was like to be a child and how a child’s world is. There are so many parts that are my favorite but I don’t want to give away any spoilers for anyone else. I too recommend it to everyone here who hasn’t read it and thank you again, Emma, for the recommendation.
Should I buy Icefields now and keep this winter theme going even though there is no winter where I live? 👀
Especially glad to have a vlog to watch today, very much enjoying all the adorable Calcifer footage 🐱🥰
Many many years ago I accepted an offer to collaborate on a Romance novel, and since then I've tried three or four other times to write one - sometimes with a partner and sometimes without one. I was never particularly good at it, as you might imagine: Too lyrical, too descriptive, too focused on balanced character development. Altho the clock hasn't completely clicked out on me for that bucket list item, reality intrudes with the truth that it just ain't happening. There is an art to writing Romance and no amount of study seems to help me. Thx Emma, I always enjoy your Vlogs.
What’s better than your favorite RUclipsr creating more videos than ever? Literally nothing. ❤❤
Good morning Emmie!!! Happy Sunday. Love your videos and I am so inspired to read classics. Thank you soon much!!
this was a great way to enjoy a sunday thanks girl
Hello, Emma! Good to see you again--romance novels not really my schtick but I love your take on all things bookish! Over on this side of the lake, we're starting to warm up finally! Have a great week!
I've liked Mariana's books but I've had to get pass all the childish words and insults she uses, all her books have them and its very annoying.
totally agree. it was so hard to get over and just made the writing so juvenile. the romance and plot itself were good but i just found the writing so insufferable.
Good to know! I had to just ignore that part too to try and enjoy it :/
I tried, but I think It would be better If the caracters were like 16 years old instead of 30...
@@enquantoissoleio that’s an insult to us 16 year olds!
OMGGGGG!!! I NOT EVEN START WATCHING BUT I AM ALREADY SO HAPPY THAT THERE IS A NEW VIDEO OF EMMIE TO FINISH MY WEEK. I am currently waiting my bread get ready, it is baking, I am waiting so I can watch while I eat, like a little date with emmie
Loved this vlog! After a tough semester, I am also trying to prioritize my well-being this month. Ang somehow i find it hard to relax! Your videos help me a lot though❤️
random question but what tropes would be in your ideal romance book?😊 or like, what do you like the most in romance books?💛
good morning everyone! perfect timing, emma❤
Those ice formations by the lake are so pretty! I'm in Brisbane Australia and currently sweating balls. I sometimes try to kid myself into feeling cooler by watching vids with icy landscapes.
This is so FUN! Now I also wanna read romance this month haha. Also, in love with the sweater she wears during the intro 😍
Thank you!!!:)
If you decide to read romance, I hope you'll check out Abby Jimenez or Kennedy Ryan! Just stay away from Long Shot by Kennedy Ryan because that one has lots of triggers.. Happy reading ❤
this is random but i loved the duck clips, so calming to watch 🦆
your videos bring me so much comfort, im saving your latest vlog for when im struggling with my thoughts and need an effective distraction, like i did with this one too ^^ hope your therapies help you, i wish you the best !!
omg all these back to back uploads!! thankss Emma. I hope you're having a fantastic day
Hi, Emma! Thanks for the vlog, they are my favourite type of videos to watch from you as I have already book recommendations that would sustain me for years as I read maybe 2 or max 3 books a month :)
Currently reading Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte so also reading a romance in February and even though it is hard to read it as English is not my native language I love it. I was missing a book with a beautiful language, all the latest books have been just too simple and pure entertainment so with this one I get also a satisfying feeling that I did smth that was a bit hard to do.
Hope you will have a wonderful next week!
It's the Alice Cullen baseball throw for me.
😂
My son does neurofeedback for his autism, ADHD, and epilepsy! We actually rent the machine and do it at home. Hoping for positive results for you!
Loved the vlog! Read from lukov with love last month and actually I was surprised to discover that I enjoyed it. Not the best romance book I've read but I had a good time, and liked the presence of family dynamics
Hi Emma, I know about a book, which is perfect for you, given that you love books about winter and hotels and the book that make you feel cosy (like myself). It is called A Week in WInter by Maeve Binchy. This is the synopsis: Set high on the cliffs on the west coast of Ireland, Stone House was falling into disrepair until one woman, with a past she needed to forget, breathed new life into the place. Now a hotel with a big warm kitchen and log fires, it provides a welcome few can resist. And so gather the guests: some with secrets, some longing to leave their old lives behind, and some hoping the break at Stone House will help them find a way to face the future.
Thank you so much for this!! Just added it to my list, it sounds like my perfect book:’)
I know that you will appreciate the book. Regardless, I recall one more book, which I have wished to recommend to you since you talked about a book about a connection between gut and anxiety that you read. I have recently read The Mind-Gut Connection by Emeran Mayer, Md. it is truly fascinating;, and I hope it will help you as much as it helped me, if you decide to read it.
can not get enough of your reading vlogs
Wow loved the icy tree branches, they looked amazing
omg! we live in like the exact same place in Toronto and its so weird seeing you film in places I've been before! Loved this video, thank you emmie ❤
Dreams lie beneath, seem to be very cosy and magical read❤ I also like to read young adult fantasy from time to time, so I can just be drawn to this magical world.
I read From Lukov With Love last month and while I liked the story, I didn't like the language used too 😅 especially in the family scenes, it was quite immature and I didn't vibe with it. I wish we had more scenes describing them actually skating and competing 🤷♀️ But some romance scenes were good, and I think the heroine was a lot more likeable towards the end of the book 😊
david copperfield.
From Lukov with Love is in my tbr for this month i'm so glad to hear you liked it!! 😌✨
we are so lucky being blessed with all this content lately
I dnf’d lukov for the exact reason you’re describing in the first 70 pages. I read like maybe half of that and was so put off from how childish the 26 year old talking/thinking/behaving. I’m glad it was on KU so I didn’t waste any money lol
I would really recommend Six of Crows! It's a wonderfully written heist in a fantasy world. Not too high fantasy, but absolutely will break your heart and make you laugh at the same time
Is it romance? I have a beautiful copy but I've not read it yet.
Romances as subplot. Found family too
On my shelf and need to read!
You should try Emily Henry for romance!! She’s surprisingly good
i had so many problems with from lukov with love it just made me so mad for no reason 😂 it bothered me that it was so long and for what
also great vlog as always ❤️
Thorn by Intisar Khanani is a Goose Girl retelling. I am loving this series ❤️
Ur so cozy. i loved seeing you out throwing snow balls and play with sharp magical ice. 😄
Your vlogs are so soothing to my eyes and ears! I mean literally...how did you do it! 😭❤
I just started 'Davy Cops' for bookclub.
I've been roaring with laughter at the 'Brooks of Sheffield' scene in the second chapter. Something so laddish about it. Interesting that, however many hundred years since, men haven't come much further in some ways.
Dickens is a genius.
I just finished that book last week! The cover is so beautiful ❤
“Because it’s a long one, I don’t know how to stop talking” lol relatable.
About the sports romances.. I’ve been hesitant to try them because of the “juvenile-ness” (Is that a term?) I’ve heard is abound in them.
Calcifer is truly an above ave cat!
Perfectly matched to its human!
There’s chemistry
I can't rationalize February and Romance going hand in hand. In The Thief of Always (which is a phenomenal horror story for kids that not enough people know about), Clive Barker gave February the very appropriate name of the 'Great Grey Beast', and so it has always been synonymous with gloomy horror for me. Thanks for the vlog. Have a gloomy day 😊
When I read Mariana Zapata's When Gracie Met the Grump, which I did love, I also felt there was slight repetition in the beginning. It almost made me put the book down. sSame with using the "F," which I also don't mind, but it was kind of boring to keep hearing. Luckily, I did not put it down and I really enjoyed the book
I have this shirt saying “life is better with coffee, books and cats” I guess it’s true 😌
If you want some Ya fantasy Cinda Williams Chima is incredible. The seven realms series is wildly underrated but perfect.
i had the same feelings towards with lukov with love i haaaated the first half because of their immaturity .. but i loved the second half
Also, thanks for sharing about the Neurofeedback. I have CPSTD and you’ve motivated me to try this.
EMMA i feel so blessed to be so early. i hope you’re having a lovely start to your week 🥰 also let me know how neurofeedback goes for you!! i did it a few years ago for my anxiety and depression
emmie thank u for this sunday gift
heyy, btw i love your vlogs ♡
Can you pretty please make a video about your favorite audible versions of books 🙏 Also, love you and your channel!!!!
Your cat in the beginning made me happy 😊 I haven’t read romance in ages either :’)) I’m always reading classics cos I’m used to the writing style from that time is that weird? Like I find classics but I can read romances really fast haha
maybe try Persuasion by jane austen or a Mid-summer nights dream (shakespeare)
i hated from lukov with love, i gave it two stars and somehow it felt like a lot 🏃🏽♀️
you bring me immense happiness 💟 also i don't think it's spring where you live, but can you...do spring book reccs anyway. love
I felt the exact same way about From Lukov with Love:)
makin' some love potions vibes! 😊
loved this 🤍
I’m a big Mariana Zapata fan. I knew you wouldn’t like Jasmine because she’s fucking annoying lol. People love this book and I enjoyed it when I read it but you need to read The Wall of Winnipeg and Me, so far is my favourite book by her and I’ve read at least 7 books by MZ😂
PLEASE do a Q and A soon!
Hey I am too making February my love dovey reading month :D
I never pick up romance so now that I am, im focusing on making it tragic. The first one im reading right now is Snow Country by Yasunari Kawabata. (Yes, based on emmie's recommendation)
Great video. Good luck with your treatment.
🌸😊
Actually I had a similar experience reading Kulti by Mariana Zapata only it didn't really turn around... like it wasn't horrible it just felt like the main character just remained juvenile even though she was also supposed to be 27 or something like that. Plus it's about football which is definitely less interesting than figure skating!
love this! also ur cat is adorable 😍
I agree that jasmine was quite annoying in with lukov with love, as sm whos read most of her backlist and her most famous books it was one of my least favourites, BUT the wall of winnipeg and me, kulti and all rhodes lead here have been some of my all time favorite books so pleeeaaasseee give them a go next time ure in the mood for a romance!
even with that big, slow burn, romance novel, emma i am just going to go ahead and say that you look like a scholar for some reason! (maybe it is those glasses?)
The only romantic things in this video is the ducklings, swan and emma cuddling calsifer 💌💕
Your channel is lovely. Subscribed! 📚
Where did you get your pullover?
Did you read icebreaker? Both characters go through growth and it's an amazing read 💗💗
I find romances all the same 😊
I'm also getting into YA fantasy at the moment too! Read Ninth House last month, reading Folk of the Air and Stephanie Garbers books. Addicted!
Ooh I’ve been meaning to pick up Garber’s newest series soon!!
@* e m m i e * Yes, that's the series I'm reading. Finished the 1st one. Pretty good. Enjoyable enough to read the 2nd. Fast-paced and enjoyed the fantasy world. Oh and I highly recommend Six crimson cranes!!!! 5 star fantasy
Hi!! I’m really interested in figure skating types of books, is from Lukov with love appropriate for young adult readers?
ugh i started reading from lukov with love and i just couldnt like the main character, couldnt care less about the story, the writing isnt good... felt really disappointed because i heard so many great things about this book!!
Boy oh boy is kitty growing!!!
i'll enjoy watching today's video 😍✨
Great vlog 📚☕❄️⛄
I'm glad you're dealing with your mental health issues and sharing about it.I hope those magnetic pulses approximate the strength of my love and admiration for you!❤️
Neurofeedback therapy sounds interesting. I can see that being beneficial, so much of our moods and thoughts rely on habit and conditioning.
That out of focus bagel could have been Cal :D
What was the workout you were doing?
some tai chi classes on RUclips!
I watched the bachelorette for the first time last summer and one of the guys went by “Meatball.” Legit never knew his real name. Everyone just called him meatball 😂
Sorry random question. Do you think all the Pulitzer/Nobel/EUPL prize fiction winners should be read?
🤗
i agree. i like mariana zapata's romances, but in the couple that i've read the banter has just been very childish. maybe it's just her way to show character development, but it just ends up feeling lazy.
also, calcifer is so big now 😭💗
Calcifer has gotten so big!!
all this ice is surreal
did u wash ur mug? :)
I think you would like all the Rhodes lead here from Mariana Zapata. Even through, from lukow with love is booktok famous. It's not my favorite from her
I've read dear Aaron by Mariana and I've stopped reading any of her romances since because it was horribly problematic and she also has a book that has transphobic material. I also just feel like the burn is too slow. The only romances I've really loved are the brown sisters trilogy, the flatshare by beth o leary, and reel and before I let go by Kennedy Ryan. Highly recommend any of those. Helen hoang’s books were books I liked as well. Emily Henry has been said to lean more women’s fiction which you may like if you want some character depth outside of the romance.
what book is everyone reading for february?
I'm reading The Cruel Prince at the moment!
Me as a 31 year old Australian who swears every 3 words: 😳
Oh my god calcifer is so big now
