make it a total conversion on the gzdoom engine
who knew that the history of this game would be so fascinating?
Can’t believe I’m JUST NOW finding out about all this! Thank you for giving me some closure.
Avant-garde videogames seems like a very fresh yet undeveloped idea. There should be more non-commercial works such as this. I’m reminded of things like Andy Warhol’s movies, for example, or maybe the works of the Dadaists. Hong Kong 97 has a strong “paint a mustache on the Mona Lisa” vibe, and I wish we had more videogames like this.
Off to AVGN to hear that sweet music loop
Truthfully, I never thought I'd hear anything more about this game.
People forget that creating something is one of the reasons why life is so wonderful
Yeah this was not a good video game but gotta respect the fact that someone had the courage to make something even if they knew it wasn't great. Gotta respect imagination and intuition
Kurasawa at 3:01 looks like he's fully realized how ludicrous humanity can be.

if someone data mines the game's code and compares it to enix's releases that anonymous programmer is fucked lol

you've heard of Hong Kong 97 but have you heard of New York 2017
Once you’ve heard that song once, you’ll never forget it
Hideo Kojima needs to get this guy's number.

Looks like it to me!
You need to check out “The Ultra healthy video games nerd”. He interviewed the creator and has an original copy of this gane!! Check out his videos. Edit: Indeed you did!! Excellent!!

i love beijing tiananmen wasnt written to get people to forget about the tiananmen square massacre, it was written prior during the cultural revolution from 1966-1976
I wonder if anyone will be able to pin down what game could've used the engine used for Honk Kong. We know it's an Enix game, at least.
.
Might be Actraiser based on enemy/boss movement patterns and some shooting elements.
Check out the credits from The Mini Skirt/Beauty Police. Cross check those names against Enix titles. The answer appears.
But how did they make that wicked ass 3D green coin flip? Maybe the engine is Bahamut's Lagoon.
WHY IS THE BACKGROUND COCA COLA?!?!
Love how Miniskirt pls has the same game damage mechanic as El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron where you play a literal biblical prophet fighting demons and fallen angels and your armor breaks apart as you take damage, to reveal tight jeans and hot abs

In the words of JonTron: "Follow your dreams. But not too hard that something like this happens"
This whole story is wild.

The Mini-Skirt Police sounds quite entertaining.
